    I don't think Americans can truly realize how completly surreal it must be for Nowizki. For a German, white kid, from a mid size town growing up in the 90s it wasn't even in the realm of dreams to become a superstar in the NBA one day. For young Nowizki these guys were like mythological heroes, a completely unatainable thing.

      barkley guarded him 1st and dirk kept scoring.. so he relegated the guarding job to scottie but dirk still kept scoring.. that's what happened

      They didn't force him out, he could've easily said he's coming back next year and still could
      They showed him love this year because he never said one way or another this was it and if he did it would've been during the off-season and then they couldn't show him love
      I'm guessing he decided to hang it up after they made the trade for Kristaps or before the season started behind closed doors

      @@ojutay8375 I've been saying this for awhile but when you really think about it.. it's what's best. Genuinely he can't keep doing this his knees can't take it. Even if you want to say it's his decision well it's also holding the team back with how long it takes him to make it up and down the court. I love him and his title will go down as one of the most impressive in history but its definitely his time.

    The Mavs championship season was the first year I really got into basketball and I still remember how epic it was to follow the Mavericks adventures in the playoffs. We're gonna miss his kindness and elegance on and off the court even more than his game. He has shown to all of us what being a person is like, before anything else. Because the game of basketball is not just about the rings and the dunks, it's about the people who loves it and get saved by it.
    Thank you Dirk for all the lessons you taught us, it's been so much fun watching you play.

    I’m from Dallas and I have to say it has been an honor an a privilege to have had dirk stay in Dallas his ENTIRE career. Can’t say that about a lot of players these years and he won us our first NBA title. Thank you for all the memories and a great run. #thankyoudirk

    I’ve never been happier to grow up watching a single player for my team than I have been to watch Dirk my whole life. Has anybody ever said a bad thing about him. Humble, kind, funny, talented. He’s a true inspiration and someone kids should be looking up to as how to be a great athlete but also a great human. Dirk is the GOAT in Dallas.

    You gotta understand that Dirk looked up to Scotty since he was a kid. He had his posters all over his room. That was his idol. So to hear you’re an inspiration from someone you’ve looked up to since you were a kid, it’s gotta feel wonderful.
