  • I'm really going to have to buckle down for the rest of the month. I didn't intend to spend as much as I did this week. Thankfully, it's the beginning of the month so I can really tighten my budget for the next couple weeks and get back on track.

    The lids from Kraft Parmesan cheese also fit on mason jars for a flip top option. And some mayo lids fit as well.

      I use these too. It’s great for diced onions and peppers in jars. Just pop open and use what you need.

    I have found that after regrowing onions in water they weak and loose color over time and can start to rot. But instead of pitching them give them new life by planting them in the garden they will start to regrow, getting larger and greener. Now you have new green onions 😊

    My American 🇺🇸 jaw is on the floor! That San Pellegrino price took me out! $12 BUT you paid $18.60… $6.60 in deposits & taxes is INSANE 😱 In my state we don’t have deposits $12 with tax is $12.72 😮 Love your content ❤

      @capricornfairy624 We will get half the deposit back when we return the bottles. So we will get back $2.40. It's just such a part of shopping bottles and cans, my whole life. I don't give it much thought anymore. I was just thrilled to get the cases for $2 each. Is that a decent price where you are located?

      @@adventuresingroceryland The price you got is fantastic! 🎉 Our local grocery store has an 8pk of San Pellegrino on sale for $6.50. The regular price is $7.69. I’ve watched you for a long time but I never really paid close attention to your receipts 🧾 That San Pellegrino receipt only having one item made the taxes stick out like a sore thumb 😂 I’m still in shock over 15% sales tax. And you only get 1/2 of the despot back? 😳 Here in the 🇺🇸 only some states have deposits and you get it all back. I don’t have a lot of variety of stores to choose from without driving pretty far. I have a Walmart, Giant Food, Save-A-Lot. I love your strategy of multiple stores for the best prices. I liked the longer video with the shop and the cooking together 😊

    Melanie, one of my subscribers told me that the mayonnaise jar lids fit standard size canning jars. They do! I’ve used them for the last couple of years. Saves having to buy lids on line. Always enjoy watching your channel and highly recommend! Thank you!

      @simplefoodsimplelife9632 I have learned so much from subscribers. I always used rings and lids on my mason jars in the fridge. Always got rusty and nasty. I bought my first set a little over a year ago. Then to learn some of my household items would also work. YAY!! Very educational for me. I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Thanks so much for watching.

    We always have a frugal grocery budget…but will always have some extra cash set aside for fabulous bargains!!! You did great! 😀

      @Stephanie-ew8lw Yes. And really, $50 of the spend was for the dogs food/snacks. So that brings actual groceries down to $95. That seems better!

    Another amazing video, Melanie. I love the products available at Costco but I hate going into the store (something about those giant shopping carts freaks me out 🤷🏼). So now we order online and have it delivered next day. This is super convenient when we are at our cottage … no driving to town and fighting the crowds and no impulse buys.

      @ruthmurray2247 That does sound very convenient. Good idea. I enjoy a good Costco trip. I love looking around at all the things. Clothes, food, household items. All the appliances for our new house. It's entertainment for me. It always does seem very, very busy!

    That is an incredible price on those cherries. They are usually a lot more expensive than the regular cherries here in BC.

    Mayonnaise lids also fit mason jars. If you buy the No Name baking powder in the white container with the yellow lid, that lid also fits the Mason jar. I have also bought a 6 pack of lids from Dollarama. They work great as well. I never seem to have enough lids and I have been saving lids for 5 years now 😃. I do like your Amazon lids though. So pretty.

      @@LizH-fs3ky I only bought those Amazon lids because I had no idea my regular household recyclable peanut butter lids, etc, would fit the mason jars. I'm definitely setting them aside. I can have between 5-8 mason jars in the fridge at any time.

    That's so awesome that the lids fit for y'all up north also. 🎉 I'm willing to bet the Kraft parmesan cheese lids would fit the same jars also then for bulk seasoning or powder creamer, sugar, and that sort of thing. Oh and don't forget to try the romaine lettuce hearts cut about an inch or two above the bottom and you can root them as well . Great video so far and I'm sure it won't disappoint me. ❤

      @candietate3038 Sooo, I have 2 parmesan bottles in the fridge. One is the dry stuff that you get from the dry goods grocery aisle and its almost all gone. The other is the parmesan blend from the dairy aisle. Lots of that left. But you BETTER BELIEVE I will be saving those. I am still flabbergasted that I am today years old and learning of this for the first time. Thank you Candie and HandsomeCalvin!

      @frugallydelicious Someone else gave the tip to run the pod twice but into the same cup. That makes tons of sense and is more like a coffee maker. I need to find my BIGGEST cup. I like doing little experiments. Keeps life fun and I learn things too.

    .So great u are posting all this info. Covid got me being more creative with what was In my kitchen. Told a person i spend 200-300 month. This includes one meal a month from restaurant. She was shocked. She spends more on her dog supplies. I can relate. But now it's just me. I find Amazon sells amys organic soup for less and also made in italy 2.00 less than my local store as an example. The farmer markets are crazy expensive. 8.50 pint of 🍓. Vancouver Island is expensive especially in small community i live in. Anyway. Will watch your library. Creativity and frugality is fun..

    Hello Melanie. The brief shot of your deck overlooking the lake looks very much like where I used to live...near Windsor ( I don't want to name the lake to protect your privacy) I moved to Ontario from my place there after my Husband died in 2013 since all of my children are here. I lived 50 years in Nova Scotia and miss it and our little place in the woods very much. Greetings from North Bay Ontario.

      @@adventuresingroceryland We were in your area...sort of...on the weekend of the 5th at Fox Mountain where my husband's band played Friday night. We planned to stay until Sunday but the heavy rain caused us to pack up on Saturday and head home!

    Another good one in the can,, love the videos and cooking, saving ideas. Love fish cakes, the few times I’ve made them, I used haddock, or salmon maybe,, what kind of fish was in the ones you had? Love Gateway, I used to get there often, but not a city driver anymore ,lol, thanks for sharing 😉🙌

      @user-gb6xm6yc7s The Gateway fish cakes were a mix of fish. The flavour was good but the fish cakes were extremely salty. We wouldn't buy them again. The fish burgers, on the other hand, were AMAZING! ❤️

    They do have the reusable jar covers at dollarama. Walmart has their own brand as well for a very reasonable price.

    The Rainer Cherries were a good price. Here in southern Minnesota they are around $4.98 a pound (or about 2.2 kg).

    Hi Melanie 🤗 Ha! You blew that budget but it makes sense - fantastic deals!- I usually have at least one month like that every year. It happens. It's a real mystery to me how you are getting any more food into your freezer LOL. You must be a Tetris Pro! $54 @ Costco is very good! That's awesome that you make your dog's food. At least not full of chemicals and junk. I also do the same with my coffee and tastes fine. My Ninja coffee maker has a strong brew feature so I use that mode on the machine for the second cup.

      Every day I am thinking about what we can eat out of the freezer. Ha. We did eat one box of those burgers already on Canada Day with our company and the free box I split with my neighbour. But still, more items need to be cooked from there. Ha.
      The dog food. We do try to cook a variety of things. However, our go to is ground chicken, rice and veggies. Spoiled brats!

    Hi all, I’ve use these type of lids for many years. If you didn’t know it, you can also leave your canning dome on your jar and Then, place your plastic lid right on top. I have found that keeps my lids from absorbing odors like garlic and onion. Hope that helps somebody. Have a great day everyone

    I was only able to get one pack of soba noodles at superstore for 1.49. I felt bad I could only get one. It was such a good buy.

    As always, you found some great buys and have good meal ideas! Never thought about the lids from jars, will definitely be giving that idea a try as my current open jars empty out. My ex gave me the tip of using the Keurig pods twice for maximum cost efficiency. Works great, and saves a little on waste. Looking forward to your garden video!

      @chrisknisley93 I seriously couldn't believe how many grinds were compacted into that pod. Someone else suggested running the pods twice but into the same cup. I like that idea, but I don't think I have a cup big enough.

      @@adventuresingroceryland all my coffee cups are "super sized" lol🤣 so I don't have that problem. But yes, running it through twice works for me because I don't like strong coffee. I bought a Keurig plastic cup to use with my coffee, but it spills coffee grounds into my brewed coffee (yuck)

      @chrisknisley93 My reusable pod works and no grinds in my coffee. The last 2 of those Kraft pods burst open the side and coffee grinds were everywhere. I thought they were mostly outside the cup and in the machine because there were only a couple floating in my coffee. WRONG!! I took a big mouthful of coffee on a zoom meeting and got a mouthful of grinds. Like what could I do in the meeting. I'm sure I grimaced but I swallowed it, the coffee grinds and all. Horrible. Hahahaha

    The veggie egg scramble was a great deal as cheapest they have been at sobeys was $2.99.
    The cherries currently at sobeys are $9.99 lb. I bought roughly 10 just now and it was $2.12 so you got a great deal. I just wanted to try a few.

      @@adventuresingroceryland Frugal from way back. Back when mayonnaise came in glass , always washed and reused the jars and lids and found they fit canning jars.

    Everything is an average to me. Yes, you may spend more some months, but that is ok. Trying new products, when on sale is good too. Those Crave items for some people might be a great buy (instead of buying breakfast)...but like you said, can be made easily at home, for just pennies.
    Those burgers worked out to $2.20 a lb approx..so a great price. Great video :)

      @kathryndockrey1477 Honestly, I try to put everything in perspective. Those Crave items would not be a huge money saver for me. For someone who is trying to break a morning drive thru breakfast habit, pure gold. And even I can see the value of an occasional convenience. Ha. The burgers were good. I didn't say the price in the video. They were regular $18.99/box. It was a total steal!!!!

    Please don't be so hard on yourself. You do an amazing job and we all learn so much from you. Love the puppy voice over in the opening, but, if he's agonna do that we should get to see him!! 🐶 I am not allowed a fur-baby in my apartment so I live vicariously through OTP (Other People's Pets). 🐶 You are a great mama. And you saved all those kids from a liver dinner!! Puppies are happy and kids are doing a dance. (The No-Frills Pellegrino was a massive score. That is an expensive item everywhere else). Editing to add about the chili. Looked so yummy. I make a mean chili. I actually won Best Spicy Chili in a contest we had at work for charity. The Handsome One would love it, I don't think you would Melanie. It has 7 different "hot" spices/peppers/hot sauces in it. I call it Seventh Heaven. Other people have called it Seven Levels of Opposite of Heaven. 🌶🤣

    Try those scoops to scoop up chili instead of a spoon. The corn chip is the spoon. Of coarse you can scoop up your favorite dip.Those scoops are also really good in taco salad.

    I always double brew my pods but in one shot. So I do 12 and 6 after that in cup

      @jessicacla We get half the bottle return back. We save cans/bottles and use the money for fun treats. Maybe a liquor store 4 pack of something, or ice creams or Burger King. I always let the handsome one pick because I'd be right in the garden centre spending it. L.O.L.
