Thank you so much Matthew for uploading this masterclass video! So delighted to see maestro Kocsis teaching the teenager me in it. It was a memorable experience playing for maestro. At that time, I was 16 years old when travelling to Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid from Shanghai to study, and I grew up listening to Kocsis’s recordings and albums. So I was thrilled to play for him in person in 2006, and this masterclass with Brahms Sonata No.2 clearly inspired me and my musical development so much. He is utterly an warm-hearted human being and an dedicated artist. May maestro rest in peace, and he is much loved and missed.
Kocsis clearly has a lot of respect for this young man, and seems to be really enjoying the experience of guiding him. Now I'm going to listen to some more Brahms...
Thank you so much for uploading this master class. The Brahms F-sharp minor piano sonata is a masterpiece. Zoltàn Kocsis' insights have enriched my own perspectives on the interpretive difficulties it presents. Such a great artist. It's a shame he passed away so young.
He was older than Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and over twice Schubert's age. We haven't a right to live to 80. He didn't die young by any standards except the pampered 21st century's
