I can relate to the magazine story. When I was 7, I didn't have any money. I had to walk 2 blocks to the library to see Hot Rod magazine. By the time I was 10 I had earned enough change to a copy of Hot Rod, and maybe Drag Racing USA. Great story.
Great memories..1st drag race I went to was at Castlereigh Dragway here in OZ in 1974 at 17...I was an apprentice mechanic so building something to race was expected...Cheers Bill...BTW Jim Read was the man back then.
Lucky me. I was born in 1939. By the time Vietnam really got rolling I had completed my military service, married, and had two kids. But when I go to the Vietnam memorial in Sacramento I see the names of guys I knew. Hard to think it’s been 50 years.
In Episode 17 Prieto mentions a Johansen/Madden "Gizmo" that went 230 on the 'Special that Howard took off after, and he (DP) would tell that story later. It kind of "resonates" since I was lucky enough to see the Howard's Cam Special (and Fireside Inn) in '67, then the 'Rattler in '68. Number 4 at both Bakersfield and Indy that year.
Thanks Bill for all you do !
Blizzard here in the Northeast, perfect time for a "Surfer's Four-Pack". Thank you. Jerry
Thank you for these wonderful videos!
Still addicted 47 years later.
