Parents out there: THIS beauty in human and musical form is what happens when you let your 7-year old discover his very own hobby/musical instrument! He started playing classic guitar at age 7, OMG! Amo tu estilo Ásgeir !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The reason KEXP is one of my favorite stations worldwide is because of those live performances. All bands they present, specially Icelandic ones, are so good that you need to play it almost every night and chill while doing homework.
Amazing. Completely obsessing over Asgeir. His music is so beautiful! I can't wait to see him perform at Sasquatch Music Festival this year! www.salon.com/2014/02/25/music_premiere_icelands_asgeir_to_release_english_translation_of_in_the_silence/
Amazing. I love how he's got that Nordic honesty. He just says in which hotel he is staying and what his best friend's name is, because it's actually no big deal. It's a shame that all this fear, distance, spying and xenophobia and such have caused much of our culture to be so closed off...
I like what you said, "Nordic honesty". It's a little bit of a shame that some really beautiful cultures are so closed minded. That being said,I did meet some really nice and outgoing Icelanders, and wish one day to go visit them
Ásgeir....just promote it here in UK in your own language.....I bought the CD in Iceland last month...I have very limited Icelandic language understanding but I think its the most beautiful piece of art I have heard in a long time..:)
They're great!! Wish I knew what they were singing, that's always the hurtle to get over. Voice-wise, the lead sounds more than a bit like Anthony of Anthony and the Johnsons (that's a compliment).
I don't hold it against him, James. Lyrics always lose something in translation. Asgeir is perfectly capable of writing in English and moving forward he should. Taking this glorious debut album and diluting the language regardless of how good a translator John Grant may be, is like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa.
Hey can someone help me? Where can i buy the original icelandic version of the album? On Amazon and Spotify and even their website i can just find the english one I think (is it called in the silence? Or is that a new one again?) Thanks for help!
Hi, If you live in Scandinavia you can buy the original Icelandic CD on Itunes if you just search ''Dýrð í Dauðaþögn''. But if you live outside of Scandinavia, I reccomend you go to shopicelandic(dot)com and search for ''Dýrð Í Dauðaþögn''. Hope this helps :)
odd, he sometimes reminds me off bonnie prince billy, some other times sounds like some jeff buckley and the two couldn't be more apart from each other
then don't listen to the translations. i for one love well crafted lyrics and i'm sure asgeir takes great pride in his and that's why he's making an english album. the instrumental melodies are obviously fantastic but maybe he just wants more people to know what his songs mean. why would you hold that against him...
it's not like painting a mustache on the mona lisa at all. the mona lisa would still be there and then there would be another new and different, albeit less complex, painting of the mona lisa. the old mona lisa is still there so who cares if the artist wants to make another interpretation of the same painting? even if it's worse at least the artist was able to reach more people than before, which is usually every artist's intention anyway. but we'll have to agree to disagree i suppose.
He is a wonder. Wish he wouldn't bow to translating into English. He is playing for me in January up in Iceland and I really have no interest in hearing the translations. Great music is great music. We don't translate opera. Why this? Lord..he is good!

Few people have this talent...
Overwhelming!
Glorious sounds.
Saw him tonight in Manchester, UK. Awesome!
Have been enjoying his music on a Philadelphia station. Just love this acoustic version of his music, especially the last song. Incredible.
声が素敵だね!Beautiful Voice!
Excellent... Great performance, love that he's also a Nirvana fan, cheers from Iceland...
Encore une pépite venue d'Islande !
Still coming back here
Simply priceless... thanks!

Bjargar Sæby Haraldsson Is there also an acoustic version released in Icelandic ? In my humble opinion they are by far better acoustic .

I agree - it should stay Islandic, but we translate opera a lot...
I got the second view!

i don#t like men who sing like girls... but this is pretty amazing!
