I said that his book, "The Horn Fellow," takes place in "pre-modern Europe," but I meant "pre-historic Europe."

Thank you for another excellent discussion, Sean! 😃 This sounds like my cup of tea. I love those good old novels of the land, maybe because we have so many of them in Latin American literature. I'm a big fan of Laxness, as you know, and your description of this text reminded me of Sillanpää's works, especially People in the Summer Night, where the descriptions of nature are simply beautiful. I'll definitely look up this author. Have a great night, my friend!

Thanks, Jorge! The Laxness connection is particularly apparent here -- I'd be very surprised in Cooper hadn't read and enjoyed Laxness. Now I need to research Sillanpää and pick up his work. Thanks for the recommendation!
