Always great to hear more about the elusive enigma that is Gram Parsons. I heard a few GP stories talking with Richie Furay, with whom I am somewhat acquainted. I was wondering if either of you have any Furay stories.
I just very recently seen a video of Gram I thought super good looking and had a nice voice too! So I looked him up and find out he passed in 1973..! Whowa, I shouda known he looked like every other guy from back in the day.. Sad ending for sure..
I wish I was your neighbor. I would cook up amazing dinners and invite him over and just let him speak. Only a handful of folks were around all of this creativity, were part of it artistically like him, and lived to tell the tale. This is my favorite era for popular music: D&B and Friends, The Byrds going country, the Flying Burrito Bros., singer/singer-songwriter, and its cousin Country Rock. Gram hated that term and preferred "Cosmic American Music" because they loved Motown, Staxx, etc. as much as anything, similarly to Bonnie, who obviously liked soul singers as much as rock. What an amazing storyteller and artist.
Thank you Bobby and Coco for these great history lessons about rock and roll past. People just don’t realize that these great rock stars where once people like me that had lives that where similar but yet not similar, if that makes sense! They did the hard work, made the sacrifices needed to develop their talents and be seen and heard by the right people back then! The difference between Bobby and them, is that Bobby never sold out, he was lost for a while, but he never sold out! And that is why Bobby Whitlock is still here rocking with us today, and they are unfortunately not! Much Respect and Love, Mr Whitlock from a fan who thinks you are a wonderful human being! Coco you and Bobby are true soulmates, I sincerely wish you both the best this life has to offer!❤️✌️
Thanks for the Gram story, Bobby l have half a dozen books about him, but actual interviews about him are very few by people who knew him and are normally fairly routine by most the statements already known, so to me this is way more interesting. Loved your rendition of Comin' Home by D&B..thanks again CoCo for your participation, I dearly want to get hold of Bobbys autobiography as well. Keep up the great stories, the two of you. Cheers to you both.
(I say this as a man) Gram Parsons was a really good looking chap. He had features that sorta remind me of David Cassidy with a hint of Nick Lowe. I'm surprised hordes of women weren't just falling all over him!
I have slide into a few musical rabbit holes since watching these videos. Re-discovering pieces of music and appricating them more and in different ways. Thanks for the wildly entertaining insights.
At 16 I quit school,1970, hitchhiked from kentucky to san francisco, I sang that line, "hitchiking on the turnpike all day long, nobody seems to know me,they just pass me on by.".50 years ago
Fabulous interview Bobby and CoCo love your posts! Your insight into all the contemporary musicians of the time is a gold mine. Wonderful to hear your thoughts on Gram and no surprise to me that he told Bobby he wrote Wild Horses. Keep up the great work!
Delaney and Bonnie and Friends were, without question, one of the greatest American rock & soul bands of all-time, but also one of the most criminally underappreciated (at the time anyway) and deserving of far more commercial success then they actually had. These anecdotes are awesome...like history come to life.👍
They got in their own way (D&B) getting exactly what they put out, another words they did it to themselves. They had every opportunity to be upstanding. Jesus couldn't fix that even though they use that to fool people.
Loved hearing you sing "Coming Home" - one of my favorite D&B & Friends songs. Also, going back to "Keep On Growing" the B-3 tag you put at the end has always killed me. Maybe I'm weird (no doubt) but it's little nuances like that become some of my favorite parts of songs.
You both are wonderful. I love hearing these stories Bobby. You have a genuine warmth, humility and a talent for storytelling. That you for making these icons real people to us with these stories. D&B & friends seemed to be your favorite musician’s favorite band. What you did with the Dominoes and your solo work is huge. Anyway, thanks for your time. I hope when all of this clears up you get to come to south Florida. I’d love to see you both. Take care
Coming Home one of my all time favorite tunes. I worked at Travel Eze trailers on Lankersome SP. Blv. 1968,,, Got to see Big Mama Thornton,, The Pulse of Brent Luis Lonnie Mack and a new guy Joe Cocker and the Grease Band at the Paladium SP...all in one SHOW ,,,,,sorry I skipped school a@aalot
Crickey..what a great vocal on the "Coming Home" rendition, Bobby...CoCo -please ask Bobby re the equal partnership and co-authorship of the Domino"s songs-how did discussions go between he and Eric about who should sing what on the record?
Once again Bobby you come with the inside scoop and then breakout in song...wow. I never knew how Pariser got his money. Never knew he made so many of the introductions between US and British musicians. I had heard his name mentioned regarding the Monterey Pop Festival. But holy moly, he was RS's pick for biggest male groupie...crazy! The creative principal of the universe....whew!
Thanks ever so much Bobby for the story on Gram and Delaney. You have such a soulful and musical voice. Did you ever come across Doug Sahm? Would love to hear any info about him.
Did you ever get to meet or play with Doug Sahm? I’m a HUGE fan of his work with Sir Douglas Quintet and solo. What a talent. He crossed a lot of genres with his music. Even more than what Gram was doing (not that it was a competition.) it’s too bad more folks don’t know about his music.
Bobby, it's no secret that Mick and Keith weren't very honorable with the writing credits, just ask Brian Jones (Lady Jane) , Mick Taylor (Ventelator Blues), Billy Preston (Miss You) and Marianne Faithful (Sister Morphine) it took years before she finally got her writing credit but why would Gram let them get away with that, especially such a classic, great song, do you think they had an agreement? Mick's Brother Chris also claimed Gram wrote it...
I can't understand people sometimes, I've been an artist my whole life and would never want credit for something I didn't do, I guess money does that to some people...
Its very possible that Keith and Gram both had a hand in Horses. They were both pretty slammed at that time. When youre hanging playing and tossing around ideas and everything, things can get confused about who came up with what. It happens. Happened to me with a few. Probably you too. Did Gram write the whole thing? Did Keith? I dont think either of them knew for absolute sure
I'd love to hear your recollections, if have any, about Chris Ethridge. Gram gets tons of credit (rightfully so) but three of his best songs were co-written with Chris. Chris seems to get overlooked.
thanks bobby, what you gonna do when all the legends meet up with ya in the great beyond ? they might be happy with ya talking out of school and they might not . lol just messin with ya, either way these are great great tales .
Coming across this now. I can hear your enthusiasm for Delaney now. You were young and grew and learned much from the man. Yet the man lacked ethics. People who lack ethics in the long run will bleed you.
Love this but Gram told us in Mr. Bates Last Interview with Gram, that he did not write Wild Horses. Also, Coco needs to know that Gram and Emmylou didn’t date. Furthermore, Grams time with Bonnie and Delayne ( as Gram called them) wasn’t at the same time as his time with Emmylou. Two different times.
Love these stories love Gram Eric and you Bobby Delaney and Bonnie so amazing and influential love FBB and their Nudie suits! U have some stories these guys the best Did you speak w Scorsese about using the piano coda from Layla in Goodfellows?
Alan loved Delaney & Bonnie ? I think he meant Gram . Lol Coco keeps him on his toes . Alan was the producer of Dark Side of the moon & a fine musician as well .
@@BW-CC I live in the Valley and am in that area quite often (The Plantation neighborhood). Now I always associate it with Bobby and company. I share it enthusiastically with friends and family.
Just watched 2004 BBC special on gram. SBC preacher who was apparently his friend from south Carolina went to nola and did his wedding. He spoke several times in the special.
Honestly, growing up in NYC I can't recall a single person in the late 60's/early 70's giving one good God damn about Delaney except for his connection to EC. I don't even think anyone gave a shit about Deleney afterwards either. I'm NOT stating this as a judgment of his worth or influence but, rather, as an opinion of his value among consumers who, in reality and fact, drive the money machine that legitimizes talent and worth in the commercial realm. That said, how much was he worth marketwise post 1972? Pretty much 0.

Bobby's got a Voice I heard it today for the first time on the thorn in the garden song Bravo
Gram has a mystic about him. Nice hearing nice words about him.
gram parsons great talent still love his music
Gram didnt start singing with Emmylou till he was a solo act, after the Burritos. Many say they were never a romantic couple.

When Bobby breaks into Coming Home it’s like the world is somehow a better place!
These interviews get better all the time. It feels like we are right there with you. That’s a gift.
Thank you

The first time I listened to the Layla album in the mid 70s. I thought , who is that guy with that incredible soulful voice , I know its not Clapton.
He's got the greatest genuine laugh.

Wonderful interviews, Bobby and Coco. I'm ripping through all of em. And definitely, break out into song more please!

"The Love Of My Man", song by Bonnie Bramlett, was a favorite of mine.
