I'm glad you're talking about this, bro.
A lot of what you are saying is 1000% true.
I been a musician for a long time (before you were born) and it's so refreshing to see your candor as a new content creator.
    Here's the deal:
You want to make money, you will play whatever music comes your way.
I've done all kinds of music and basically consider myself a jazz musician but via the Herbie headhunters, Return to Forever, Weather Report, Jeff Lorber filter.
Coltrane band with McCoy was the first real 'straight-ahead' thing I was into but that's only because (wait for it) I was SUPPOSE TO. I can play me some bebop and post-bop shit but funk is where I live and at this point I can't playing nothing that's not funky, gnome sane?
In any case, I was onstage with a hip-hop band in Europe when I suddenly realized that what I'm doing right now was pretty damn cool and I'm not trying to be no jazz head at that time. Immediately after that, I decided I didn't need to be a jazz musician or prove anything to nobody at that time. We played to 10K people and some of the repertoire was tunes I wrote for the band which I still make a little something on years later. And yeah...a lot of what I wrote sounded like Gil-Scott Heron's music from the early 1970's and kids still dug it.
I support you, my brother and want to say that you got your head on STRAIT.
Keep doing what you do and whatever the fuck you do....DO NOT STOP LIFTING or taking care of your body, bro. That shit will keep you alive and sane. Trust me on that.
Peace and keep up the good work!!!

I'd like to know what you say about Patrick Bartley's video where he distinguishes between an "artist" and a "working musician" and that music schools focus too much on the "artist"-type knowing that most will be working musicians, if at all. Or did you comment already on it - I haven't seen all of your stuff.
Thanks for your channel! And good luck in NYC!

I’ve voiced my opinion before, but I agree with him. There’s a big difference between the two, and music school focuses so much on getting you to sound like a virtuosic robot while not teaching anything about business. I’m currently trying to become just an artist, it’s a process

@@BernellJonesII Thank you for your answer. The sad thing is that I see this all over: in art school you don't learn anything about business, in med school you just learn medicine and don't learn to run an office or even a clinic (I'm a physician) - and I guess it's because those who teach us don't know themselves too much about it because otherwise, regardless of the craftship or profession, they wouldn't opt for a teaching career (which in itself is important as well) and instead use this knowledge outside of a college or university ...
