The emg's sound more... "Balanced" for the way of plucking in general (more like a studio matter i guess)
but y'know the yi's sound so DOPE for 10 bucks xD
Nice video man, cheers from Chile

Funny story 20 years ago I bought a bass with 2 emg hz humbuckers ( Schecter 4 string ) yet never played it . As of 15 months ago finally began playing religiously. Decided precision and J basses are more my speed . It definitely helps there are a lot great basses for very little money available out there these days . Anyway I'm always gonna keep that old bass . Those hz EMGs sound excellent . Very full and resonant. Doesn't have that tin can sound alot of modern humbucking pickups get . Speaking of basses made recently that is . Anyway good playing . You made my point when it comes to the tone I'm speaking of .

Even if the sound is just recorded with a cam mic. I can hear a difference. The EMGs captures a bit more of the lower mid range. Those Yibuy pickups aren't not bad at all for that price! The EMGs sound better to me (probably also in a band mix), but they don't sound 10 times better than the cheap pickups, in my opinion.

I just bought a pair of those Yibuy from ebay for guitar and had a lot of doubts due the low price, but I saw a lot of videos including this one and I think its worth to try for 15 dlls, you can hear a little difference when comparing the two videos but not in quality but as in tone and warmth, thanks for the video, mate.

The EMG is thick and phat. The YIBuy sounds thin to me but not bad for $10. I wouldn't buy it but we all have our preferences.

Cool video. I would love to compare the ohm reading on them and do a blind sound test by setting up two identical bass with those pickups, remove the emg logo and see what other bass players think.

I tried my best to do a perfect side by side comparison for this video, limiting as many independent variables as I could. I never did compare the resistance of the two pickups because my ear was pleased by the (identical) sound of both of them. If I found out the resistance was different between the two pickups it still wouldn't change the sound to me... I'm sure others would hear the difference according to the ohms!

@@defactodrumsCompletely true. Probably could’ve googled it. The blind sound test is what I’d be more interested in. People tend to be bias when they see the emg logo. I can’t tell the difference. Others in the comment board seem to lean towards emg rather than a no name brand. I bet if they didn’t know which is which you’d find a 50/50 split on taste.

Can you tell me where I can find the wiring diagram for this pickup ?

  • @evenseb7574
    @evenseb7574 6 лет назад +1

'Cant actually hear the difference'... Well, I can ,and there is a big difference when you play slap. Emg's sounds so much funkier :) If you just play rock, it is not that big difference though. I suppose the cheapos will be fine on a fretless bass.

I’m a huge fan of EMG-HZ bass pickups! As soap bar pickups go they have consistently sounded far better.
But, in your video I have to admit that not only do the EMGs not sound 10 times better the Yibuy pickups hold their own! A few times there I was hearing some pleasing single coil like frequencies in the Yibuys that I personally prefer!
I’m starting to notice a pattern through out RUclips, these inexpensive pickups are shaking things up in the guitar world! I’ve especially noticed this trend in guitars I play in shops and I frequent guitar shops more than anybody I know.

This is probably due to CNC technology.I have basses costing less than 275 bucks that are gigable when the same money (taking inflation into account)bought me kindling back in my youth.

I almost want to set a bass up with the emg or the yibuy and have no tone controls whatsoever. That bass sounded great, just needs grounding.

    • @defactodrums

grounding... we don't need no stinking grounding! just an alligator clip to the nearest available bare skin.

The EMGs sound warmer and more tubey the YiBuys sound cold an sterile. Haha, JK. I did notice that the EMGs have more low end though. I was considering buying a set of YiBuys for a Strat copy I got at a yard sale. It was $35 so I'm thinking that's a good reason Y I Buy $10 pickups.
