  • Sharp Edge is the famous ridge route up to the summit of Blencathra in the Northern Fells region of the English Lake District. This is a notorious accident blackspot so is best tackled in fine dry weather as the rock can be very slippery. In winter conditions, an ice axe and crampons or microspikes are advisable depending on the conditions.

It's exposed and a step up from something like striding edge. More like a short crib goch and slippery too. The bad step feels a bit like trying to put your boot onto something a foot wide with a 50ft fall either side.
Most people who do it are fine, but dont underestimate the 'airiness' up there, you often dont get an impression of it from videos.

Yes indeed. Which is why people fall off it every year, usually when it’s wet.

I was there on Friday but picked the less scary route with Scales Fell. Wonderful place

I did this a couple of years back, but i wound up on a less optimal route a few meters down along the righthand side of the ridge. It got sketchy!

With arête’s like this & striding edge etc. I always find it’s best to stick to very top of the ridge wherever possible. You’ll have to have another go 😊

@SummitandCamp Yeah! My dad and a few of his friends are doing striders edge this weekend on Sunday, looking forward for it. I'm building up for the big mountains, it's a great hobby to get away from technology and fun in general
