  • First Shadow Battle with Telepathic Aid from B5's Walkabout (episode 18, season 3). Please note this is all the relevant CGI extracted in order from the episode.
    I recently started re-watching (yet again) my Babylon 5 DVD box set collection. Figured I'd do a favour to all my subscribers that did so because of the B5 content I uploaded in the past.
    Although it's entertainment, we can also consider it educational for anyone studying CGI of the mid 90's.
    This is a non-monetized channel.

      G'Kar knew how to rally the troops when he needed to. I always imagine before he went and help Vir liberate Centeuri he became the leader his people needed for a few years and fought beside Lyta in the telepath war. .

    I didn't care for the Dr. Franklin "walkabout" plot very much. It wasn't bad, it just seemed kind of meh. I did like the part about the terminally ill singer that he met. It cast light again on the people of "downbelow", the homeless of B5. There was a line about people who had sold everything they had to come to B5 with dreams of a better life, only to see those dreams die. We got a brief reference in a later episode of Franklin doing a death report on the singer - who was a "might have been" love story for him. I always assumed that the Interstellar Alliance would improve things for the poor, given access to more resources, better technology, etc, but they never really talked about it. I remember thinking in "Sleeping in Light", when Sheridan and Zac were talking that some mention about how the people of downbelow had been helped might have been made. But then, there's never enough time to wrap everything up.

    Just one problem with this scene. Lyta really struggled trying to break through to the first Shadow vessel. How were the Minbari telepaths able to figure it out so quickly?
    It should have been just two Shadow vessels that came in as reinforcements. The Minbari telepaths had to work together to jam a single one. As the war progressed, the Army of Light telepaths got more adept.

    • @Harjawalda
      @Harjawalda 2 года назад +9

      Lyta is only a P5, on a scale from 1-12 and at this stage she has not unlocked her full potential after she was boosted far beyond p12. Mimbari have been uplifted by the vorlons long ago, having much more expirience and presumably higher telepathic potential. It also depends on who pilots the vessel. These vessels may have been piloted by non telepaths. The real issue is why do the shadows not use the drakh or other races that have superior telepathic/telekinetic abilities themselves. That was never explained nor why Sinclair didnt mention anything about this weakness nor did Kosh float over and say btw bring telepaths.

      @@Harjawalda the bad guys have plot armour early on, the revelation of their weakness is used to make us cheer on the underdogs as they suddenly have a chance!
      I'm guessing the Drakh had served the shadows long enough that using them as a ships CPU was no longer acceptable to them, and the Vorlons were almost as bad as the shadows, both sides locked in an endless cycle of chaos and order indirectly battling it out and treating everyone else as pawns in their proxy wars

      @@Harjawalda They hadn't shown it, but she was augmented prior to returning with Kosh, so that doesn't entirely track. Certainly the first time making contact with a Shadow vessel was traumatic - I think that was what Lyta really had to fight - that and the writers. It wouldn't have been very dramatic if Lyta had simply been able to handle them all. Of course, none of this would have prevented Sheridan and the others from treating her like crap in Season 5.

    The most idiotic nerf of an otherwise great enemy. So, after all this time, no counter to telepathic beings? No fail-safe mode? No autopilot. No telepathic disruptors? Ships just go " uhh durrrr" and hang in space? C'mon man!

      @@roho10011 That's even more idiotic, I'm afraid. Why not just make the ships psi attack proof or AI default in a psi attack It's not like they haven't had over 1000 years to work on the issue. So, yeah c'mon man!!

    • @ivaneames4354

      @@hot2warm I think it was over confidence. No one knew about the telepathic weakness except for some Narn from a thousand years ago and the only place that information was passed on was the Book of G'quan. Even then most Narn didn't understand what it meant until Garibaldi worked it out. The Shadows probably figured that if no-one knew about it than then they didn't need to do anything. Their dealings with Psi Corps were a safety net just in case.
      Edit: Actually the Shadows didn't have a thousand years to counter the problem. They were asleep all that time until the Icarus woke them up. Then they started dealing with Psi Corps, so they did try to address the problem once they woke up from their hibernation but unfortunately for them Sheridan and Co discovered the weakness before it could be fully dealt with.

      @sunspot42 2 года назад +2

      Might even be simpler than that - telepaths are harder to control than non-telepaths, and the Shadows were unwilling to take that risk.
      Just look at how Lyta deceived and then helped slaughter the second ambassador "Kosh".

      Maybe pay attention to the series.
      Their counter was to use powerful telepaths fir their ship cores, but the shipment of telepaths intended for that was intercepted by Sheridan thanks to Bester.
