Those were the pre-wheelie days! I think I remember looking how close to the side of some of those pretty big drop offs and thinking that you might be nuts. You're not afraid to just go out there and try, which is why you're doing so well now. I mean, you also started a RUclips channel at the same time, no fear!

Some vintage Matty active, back when it was Matty Johnson. You've come along way and there's more to shred. Closing in on 10k. You'll be there before you know it.

I road some black diamonds with my marlin 7, it was sketchy. I’m still on a hardtail but holy shit my current bike has 2.5 minion dhf/aggressor tires, 4 piston brakes, through axles, air fork, and way slacker HTA. I cannot believe how much safer and more confidence inspiring it is. A lot of times on the marlin I had that “along for the ride” feeling on downhills because the brakes weren’t strong enough and even if they were the 2.2 ardent race tires didn’t have the traction to slow down anyway so you just had to send it, try to take the smoothest line possible and pray the rear QR skewer didn’t come loose.

Man I feel you on this one. Apex was one the first trails I ever rode. I had seen someone post a photo of them riding it on facebook and figured I should give it a shot. This was shortly after i got my first bike and had only ridden at the Greenwood village mountain bike trail. I rode it on a Marin Bobcat trail 4, hardtail with a 2X. Absolutely brutal but I'm still riding that bike to this day

I remember this video. I had been riding on a 3x9 Marlin 7 wanted to see how far somebody could push the Marlin and if it instilled confidence in newbies like me. It certainly did in your case! I ended up in a sling and my old man Marlin has some scars too lol.

Best Mtb channel on RUclips. You are like the majority of us. Not pros but growing our skills and just having fun and getting outside. Wish you lived in Indy so we could get some rides in. Plus I need some help riding wheelies lol. Can get to balance point and ride for a bit but can keep balance point and end up chasing out the wheelie

nice video side note i put a suntour sp12 suspension post on my sulcata 3.2 for going downhill on trails i tell its night and day the bumps are soo much less harsh i actually look forward to bumps now with the sus post theres no violent rigid thump feeling you would normally get.

Sorry you got that video taken down. It was funny you were learing and just riding whatever to test the bike. Maybe many people said "just watch how this guy dies" ha. For me, that trail got too many rocks to have fun, but the green place is beautiful.

These days Apex (specifically Enchanted Forest and Magic Mountain) is bikes only on even days, when you made the original video it was under the older system which was REALLY confusing. You rode that really clean, go there any day its open to bikes and you'll see people walking expensive full sus bikes down parts of it. You also can't climb up the gut anymore, the normal loop is to climb via Argos and Pick N Sledge do the short downhill of hardscrabble then use the upper part of Apex to reach the top of Enchanted Forest, then downhill EF and Magic Mountain back to the start. That route is the traditional "Yeti Lunch Ride" and is listed in trailforks

If you think that’s rocky, come down to the springs and ride Ute Vally Park, I went down one trail a little too fast and hit a rocky section, flung myself Over the handle bars

Hey Matty - love your content. Just curious how come you have different colored Marlin 6s I've seen across your videos? Do you own multiple Marlin 6s? :) The one in this video is blue but I've seen your other videos with the black Marlin 6 with neon green accents. I'm also considering between 2022 Marlin 6 and 2022 Roscoe 7. Thanks again for making great content!

I don't recommend people doing high level trail difficulty on a hardtail because they bounce and skip more all over the place without suspension. it is doable if going slower or with more precise body positioning when faster.
