RIP John Witherspoon. These stories need to be archived
They truly do need to be archived. Bless these genius performers. We were lucky to have had them. 💜
Yes. Agreed.
Or curated.
Yes they do!
Richard Pryor, John Witherspoon, Charlie Murphy..... and Paul Mooney..... RIP KINGS🙏🏽
I got sad when I read your comment. I realized dang, they are all gone aren't they😔 At least we did get to enjoy them while they were alive. Something future generations will never know💁🏿♀️Oh and Redd Foxx too🤦🏿♀️
You know thinking about it a few Comedians that worked with Eddie Murphey have passed. Robin Harris and Bernie Mac too. No wonder he seems so sad to me in that interview.
True titans. So sad.
Paul Mooney is a legend as well
@@Serenity5 luv me some Bernie Mac RIP
When Eddie unleashes himself he's easily the funniest man on Earth
Easily
And Seth Meyers is easily the unfunniest.
Hell yea. Hollywood trying to tame the beast. Unleash the beast please 🙏🏿
You can tell he was in his "PG Television" mode LOL.....
A shame we never got to see Eddie, Charlie, and Uncle Ray sitting around tellin stories.
Rest In Power Paul Mooney and John Witherspoon ❤️🖤🇹🇿🇬🇧✌🏿
His Paul Mooney & John Witherspoon impressions were perfect. That would have been a great skit for Chappelle to reenact.
He's who Chappelle Emulates the most.
His acting and sketch comedy are modeled after Eddie. His stand up was modeled after Tony Woods, and Franklyn Ajaye!
CLEARLY Charlie Murphy told NO lies!
If Chappelle doesn't do something it all whitey faults
Factz he sounded just like pops
Thank you Seth for asking Mr. Murphy about the Paul Mooney incident. That was a GREAT story.
My goodness! It was!
was it!
Mann looking at Eddie reminds me how much he looks like his brother Charlie. #RIPCharlieMurphy
Yes I had to take a double look many times. It is the goatee
Yes exactly
True, he's looking more like Charlie since reaching his mature age.
And his voice is sounding a lot like Charlie's on this interview.
First time I heard Eddie do Charlie was on Inside the Actors Studio. Perfect! Told story about wanting to punch their foster mom, Mrs Stevens in the face for being so mean 😂
Eddie is so naturally gifted as a story teller and the way he moves from one voice to another is crazy! Much love!
Eddie's brief Witherspoon was spot-on. He and Pryor, greatly missed legends.
Wasn't his Witherspoon just like him? He painted the heck outta that picture.
I love Eddie ,but joe Rogan , who beat your ass
@@desmondhardison4840 joe rogan isn't a comedian he's a popular podcaster that does stand up in his spare time he's not funny.
His Mooney was spot on too. I think Eddie can impersonate anybody.
@@iffysd9864 never even attempted to watch a joe Rogan stand up🤣
Eddie's next standup special should be him sitting down telling stories. Netflix are you listening?
Do you remember the little story told before one of his concert movies? Sam Jackson was in it? Eddie as a kid, total 60's house vibe. That's the movie.
@@samanthab1923 that was right before Raw, a very young Tatiana Ali (Fresh Prince of Bel Air) was in that skit as well.
💯
Chazz Shecky Yes! You have a great eye 😃
I remember the kid version of Eddie making fart sounds and really enjoying it.
When Charlie was around no one dared mess with Eddie. He was a former Navy man, boxer and tough as nails. May he rest in peace forever.
Their father is a boxer as well. Just like their other brother Vernon. I'm pretty sure Eddie can fight as well.
Didn’t stop Rick James
@@taylorscrews2284 According to Charlie, he whooped Rick James arse a couple of times. Besides he was a big star back then...wouldn't have looked good if the Murphy boys sent him to the ER.
@@user-ms3jz7ub7n : Dayum. LOL :).
@@taylorscrews2284 yeah wasn't Rick in the military as well?
Eddie's basic life stories are funnier than most comedians intricately thought out stand ups.
We need more of these Eddie Murphy stories.... Was in tears 😂😂😂
💯
Priceless 😂
They should've taken Charlie Murphy's true Hollywood stories and made a comedy series of just that. Eddie can't tell the salacious stories like Charlie could. The both of them are/were great storytellers.
@Psiborg X that definitely sounds like something John Witherspoon would've said.
I agree.
I rewatched Eddie telling this Paul Mooney story probably 5 times. Insanely funny.
😀😀
His impression of PM had me 💀
LOL me too!
This is a classic e true hollywood story
I'm still going.
"Eddie Murphy Hollywood Stories" I'd pay to see that.
"Eddie Murphy telling his True Hollywood Stories " next on Netflix
Please make this happen!
it would do millions just for him talking about Harlem Nights
We need a season 3 of chappelle show - true Hollywood stories.
That would be a hit show with many seasons and 10 episodes per season like Netflix do.
Hurryyyyyyyyyyy
Anybody rewind it just to hear the Spoon and Moony impression? 🤣🤣🤣
I just did!
3 times!🤗
Meeee !!!
Spoon & Moon
Love this new era of Eddie Murphy I’ve really missed him.
Same here.
I’ve always loved his movies. Does anyone remember Metro? That’s actually one of my favourite ‘hostage negotiator’ movies.
No slouch with the Mooney either 🤣
While everyone loved his early movies, I also am a huge fan of Norbit and Bowfinger. I wonder if Eddie even knows how big Norbit is, it’s a cult classic
Paul Mooney is a legend. That story was awesome and Eddie has some awesome stories to tell!! Mr Mooney will be greatly missed!!!
I'm surprised Eddie Murphy didn't know who Paul Mooney was 🤔
@@peppercat8718 Mooney was a smaller comedian. He is a legend now for being a writer for Richard Pryor. He’s more of a comedian’s comedian though.
@@MisssKayyPaul Mooney is one of the greats. Eddie...he is a crossover. You KNOW white people will take the blacks that we love. They will literally TAKE YOU.
Eddie Murphy's life experiences are enough for 100 specials. He tells stories like nobody else. Still incredible!
Oh my god his quick impressions of John Witherspoon and Paul Mooney killed me! But I can’t even imagine Paul Mooney apologizing for anything tbh
If he did, he didn't mean it.
Haha.
@@m.333rd6 yeah, just did it for Richard - I can imagine him saying he didn’t mean it too lol
Pissy man need his fancy thangs. Pryor means big money connection. For his fancy thangs.
So he apologized. Faked it. But he apologized. Was able to keep having even more fancy thangs.

Trading Places deserved some oscars, it only got a nom for music score
Agreed 100%!!
its a proper movie
True DAT!!
@1018miamidrive preach!
A freaking classic !!!!
Eddie is to comedy what Tyson is to boxing. He peaked early and he was unstoppable
You ain't KIDDIN'! GREAT analogy! 👏👏👏
You absolutely nailed it with that statement Fabio 👍
Iam 60 in june Eddie 60 in may i witnessed what you said its a fact.
It's really between Pryor and him for me. As far as comedic talent no one else comes even close
@@fabiobonetta5454 he’s not talking greatest ever, but the explosive domination. Pryor is more like Ali in that regard
As an interviewer, you know you have struck gold when you get a legend like Eddie to tell a story about how two great comics like Paul Mooney and John Witherspoon argued with him in the parking lot of the Laugh Factory. And you get Eddie to break into impressions of both comics? Damn, that is about as good as it gets. Seth was so happy he asked the question. I could listen to Eddie tell old stories all day. That should be his stand up act.
A true gift for story telling. My ribs hurt from laughing, and most of it was bleeped out.
Eddie Murphy telling his True Hollywood stories is the best thing ever
Charlie Murphy? His late brother?
Charlie Murphy told them, but a lot of them did involve Eddie. RIP Charlie Murphy. And Rick James. And Prince, damn...:-(....
Did Eddie Murphy tell true Hollywood stories?
I agree. Shoot from the 70s to early 90s the stuff they know 🧐🤣😆.
Both Eddie and Charlie have fascinating stories. R.I.P. Charlie
This man is a bridge between epochs in comedy. Eddie Murphy is a treasure.
I love how much power Pryor had. He made them both apologise to Eddie haha.
Pryor was king, a King Maker in many ways.
@@V4Now Redd Foxx birth Richard & Richard birth Eddie ["89"Harlem Nights🌙] self-explanatory!
kingz of comedy Mount Rushmore: 1.Redd Foxx 2.Paul Mooney 3.Richard Pryor 4.Eddie Murphy
Seeing more of his brother in his face these days, RIP Charlie Murphy.
I was thinking the same thing
That’s what I said he looks exactly like his brother
Yes, the goatee
When he impersonates his brother they look like twins.
Same thoughts
Eddie does fantastic impressions of Witherspoon and Mooney. Also, I'd like to think that Life is a cult favorite too.
his impressions are so on point. such a legend
Just hearing eddie tell the Paul Mooney story is an example that he still got it. His whole stand up special should just be him telling stories.
That's what I felt too! Saw some of it on Jerry's car show.
While in college years ago, my friend Lucy Mendez now Lopez & i were fortunate to be unexpectedly surprised with an impromptu performance at The Comedy Store. Eddie was trying out new material. We are still fans of his first recorded live performance & Saturday night live skits.
Hey now :) ! That's great :D !
...this is the strangest comment thread haha
@Sheila Sandoval...... I dont hear ANYBODY talk about his 1st record. Me and my homeboys back in junior high school used to listen to that album....the one with Eddie clenching a rose in his teeth. That was a funny ass record. I must've been 13 in 8th grade at the time. You're the first one outside of my friends that has mentioned that recording.
Eddie should take over for Charlie telling true Hollywood stories 😂
Wish there were no bleeps but so funny.
That would be Funny, but None could tell it like Charlie,Charlie turned Superstars into Fans with his stories 🤣👍🏾
Now that would be hilarious
Have you ever seen Eddie on Inside The Actor's Studio? Funny stuff!
I love how when he imitates charlie he even mimics his facial expressions. It makes it so much better 😂
That would be amazing!
His memory is astounding. He instantly recalls the smallest details of an incident that happened 40 years ago.
In 19 minutes, Murph casually tells the funniest stories you've heard in the last two years.
Well Richard Pryor should have one for "Which way is up."
👏👏👏👍👍
That’s a good Witherspoon and Mooney impression.
bleeping out eddie murphy stories is just plain sacrilege
Agree, unbleeped version needs to be on youtube
@burnt andburnie You can, though. They choose not to allow it.
To me the bleeps made Eddie's story about John Witherspoon and Paul Mooney even funnier 🤣🤣
Maybe Harlem Nights and Vampire in Brooklyn aren't the same level of Coming to America, but I think they also have dedicated audiences who often re-watch them.
He’s talking about his later movies
The Golden Child. Check that one out if you haven't yet.
@@JonReynoldsESQ man Edie couldn’t mis back then. Let’s not forget Harlem nights! He was one of many in that movie but he was still one of the main characters
Yes, you are correct. I always watch at least a part of Harlem Nights when it comes on, especially the fight scene with Della Reese.
Harlem Nights is a cult classic. Nobody checking for Vampire In Brooklyn tho!✌
He's telling the truth. Paul Mooney always called people 'homie'!
He did create Homie D Clown
Dolomite is a funny ass movie and Eddie plays him perfectly.
I loved that movie! Eddie did a great job.
Yeah, Dolomite was good. Eddie performed great. I also liked the role of Wesley Snipes in that movie.
He was the one with insight and taught ol' Dolomite a few things.
Yep, he had pen+pad, and was taking notes. LOL :).

That movie is amazing.
Yeesss! That’s my new favorite Eddie Murphy movie! “ Put ya weight on it!” LoL 😂🤣🤣👏👏
@MisMupp : It was good. I watched it twice 😅.
My head hurts from laughing. Even censored Eddie is hysterical.
Yes Wesley Snipes killed his part. Loved the Mooney story.
I want Wesley Snipes and Eddie Murphy to make a movie together every year for the rest of their lives. They're great together.
Eddie can do a set by just telling stories of his pass life. Too funny 😂
With candles in the bk ground.
Thank you for reminding me how much I love Eddie Murphy.
This is my favorite story.. with Paul in it. R.I.P Paul Mooney.
never heard anyone make eddie murphy laugh this hard like seth does
The world needs more Eddie Murphy (period)
Eddie Murphy was so young when all of this stuff was happening that he just takes it as stuff that happened when I was on my come up but doesn't mean anything. I don't think he understands how hilarious brilliant and damn near otherworldly they are for us years later to know these things happened... shout out to Dave Chappelle for recognizing how crazy these stories are...and to make ART... because they've always been floating around black Hollywood FOREVER.
I agree.
He was like 22 when everything took off. Really is the Jordan of comedy.
💯
RIP Paul Mooney.. What a comedic legend
i remember a clip of john amos taking a break having a cigarette during the making of coming to america the first time. some dude steps up to him and asking asking him a bunch of question about what he did. when john amos said he was an actor, the guy asked him who he was and that he did not think he was famous actor because he didn't know him. pissed and about to walk away before he would rearrange the dude's face. and then it happened. he heard that donkey-in-heat braying, as he described it. eddie was in stitches because it was him in in the make up as one of the characters and john amos had not seen it!
My friends little sister went to Blair Academy with his daughter. Her dad didn't know who he was 😂

I meant to watch the first, went to the app, and saw the sequel available early?! Time to double back
The second was trash lets stop the lies..and I love the first one and Eddie.
That whole idea about movies getting oscars 25 years later is actually a damn good idea.

I loved the movie! Loved all the cast, what a lineup! Eddie is so humble!
That Mooney, Witherspoon story was hilarious. I would pay just to hear his Hollywood stories.
If Dave Chappelle ever launches a new show, he should have Eddie continue the True Hollywood Stories in place of the late Charlie Murphy. That would be dope!
All of the voices of God in once space: James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman. Excellent poke at comedy.

Eddie has hit a 2nd wind. I could binge listen to him tell stories for a week straight. The E. F. Hutton of comedy.
That Paul Mooney story was the best story ever! 😆
These are the best types of interviews. I am so impressed when Seth gets a guest comfortable and they tell a story off the cuff like this. This is a skill he should develop more to get the really stoic guests to open up. With the right question the interview is golden. Bravo
