It could be the height of the pickup, thicker strings saturate more in the neck, it's just a matter of adjustment, I had that problem and I solved it by lowering the poles of the thick strings so that I would have a more balanced sound
Most people checking out your video aren't looking to hear cool processed tone. I like synth-like leads, too, but the coloration makes picking a neck pickup based in part on your video more difficult.
Yep. That's why it's a challenge to find a good PU for this technique and position. At the moment I'm not using the neck pickup so much anymore, I realized bridge is still a preferred position for this. But I will get back to it sometime.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my password. I would love any tips you can give me.
Definitely sounds better. Still a bit of a weird square wave thing going on but at least the sound is very even and consistent across all 6 strings. Very nice.
Basically you needed a neck pickup to sound more bridge-like. The titan is a good suggestion and seems to work, but if I already had something like an evo selecting the right overdrive might have worked better.
Dimarzio Evolution-1:35 VS 7:30-titan = I don't hear much difference, still sound floppy. Maybe, Titan a little bit tighter, but not obvious difference.
what bridge pickup do you have? I have Fred in bridge one one guitar and the mo joe on bridge and Paf joe on another I really like them , may install the satur8 on my Kramer but I don't want nasal sounding so I have to look into that.
Do you have any clips of the Titan clean? Dimarzio is recommending this for me for jazz. I'm trying to get a non muddy round tone in my PRS S2 standard 24. Truth is I'm using the guitar with everything from Jazz, New Soul Gospel, Funk, all the way to Early Kings X crunch. Unfortunately Dimarzio doesn't let you choose that much 😄
@SMSuperstrat I don't have a lot of clean parts with the Titan Neck but here in the first tune "Somewhere in This Universe, Somebody Hits a Drum" from about 1:21 you'll hear it in the clean guitar lines yuvalron.bandcamp.com/album/somewhere-in-this-universe-somebody-hits-a-drum-ft-marco-minnemann
False harmonics, due to the pickups being a little too close to the strings. It's a common Strat problem, and also occurs commonly when there are a lot of magnetic pole pieces pulling down on the strings...such as in a 3 pickup Ibanez. Lowering the bass edge of the pickups helps a lot.
Although I don't do much tapping I have the same problem, I hate when the low strings sound like that! I thought that happened particularly often when the pickup has a high output
I thought so too but not necessarily, in fact neck pickups normally have lower outputs. The reason is that in guitars like mine, even in neck position, non F-spaced / Tremmbucker pole pieces are more likely to be too centred away from the strings, especially the 1st and the 6th, thus pick up less of the sound or transduce it inaccurately. But since the Titan Neck I got is both F-Spaced and features tighter low end response, I don't know which if these components is the most effective. I'm guessing both are playing a significant role.
F-spaced versus regular spacing is purely an aesthetic concern. Forget what you've heard from uninformed players and the companies marketing the pickups. There is no perceptible difference in if your pole pieces are 'properly' aligned or not, no matter how acute your hearing is--it just looks funny if they are not. This is backed up by personal experience, but most importantly, by the simple science of how pickups works. The impact is so minimal you can just forget about it.
Boomy = coils too hot. Something around 9-10k with ceramic magnet would suit you perfect. Maybe a narrower gap would be better like a like a Chopper. Maybe your guitar itself has that resonance as well.
Same one for bridge (Steve's Special), I don't really play the neck position anymore. For the mid position I have the Fast Track 1 which I'm likely to replace with Fast Track 2 for being more sensitive / louder. String gauge 9, standard tuning!
@@YuvalRon thanks sir for the great info ☺ your playing is superb and loved your sound..will checkout the steve's special pickups..any reasons for using 9s instead of 10s,i know lots of legato players using 10s for tone...
Hi, i just came across your video here.. i dont know if your still looking? but i wanted to suggest a dimarzio at-1 bridge pick up for the neck.. its crystal clear, in the lows, mids, and highs.. or you can also try a single coil that is made to with much more output than a typical single coil. also by dimarzio. im surprised they didnt recommend these to you themselves! well, on second thought, im NOT surprised!!! they dont care about their " regular" customers. just the ones they can make alot of money from, from endorsements... like, andy timmons, joe satriani, steve vai, paul gilbert, etc, etc... BUT ANYWAY, check out the dimarzio CHOPPER! its not as vocal sounding as the at-1 but its very tight and clear and powerful, if thats what you want. also, i want to recommend something else. A DIFFERENT GUITAR.. your ibanez has a basswood body? maple neck, but rosewood fretboard.. the basswood is spongey.. and the rosewood is spongey.. not clear and articulate, which will effect your over all tone and the clarity of your strings/notes.. ALDER body, with maple neck and maple fretboard, will be TOTALLY clear, tight, articulate, and very well defined whatever your playing!!! and ofcourse your amp and speaker choices will also have a strong effect on your over all tone too! im an instrumental blues/pop/rock guitarist myself, and i have been down this road for YEARS! NOW I HAVE LEARNED AND FOUND WHAT I NEED AND WANT.. but i had to go through aLOT of pick ups and guitars, and strings, and amps, and speakers/combonations TO GET HERE! ahhhhhhhhh... so this is why i am replying... I UNDERSTAND!!! also, different pick ups will respond differently with different amps/tubes/speakers!!! so the information im giving you on the guitar and pick ups is accurate BUT if you have a really muddy/high bassy amp? and your speakers are very compressed? then you will still get a muddy sound from your guitar! so you have to look into all of these things again... GAIN is another issue too! most gain sounds are very muddy and compressed, and that makes your notes sound shitty! you have to find a nice sounding gain/distortion sound and keep it low gain, but increase the volume and play with the eq to get it as " clean and tight as possible" .....
Hi. Those are great points and I became aware of some of them since. I still think all in all Ibanez is great for me, and the bridge PU sounds fantastic. I just need to keep exploring for the right neck PU, the next time I have the opportunity. Or I'll just patiently wait until someone finally comes up with a guitar / pickup modeller :)
so you still have the same problem basically! check out those pick ups i mentioned.. and also after reading your cureent comment on a modeller, if that is something you want? there are 3 possibilities for you to explore. 1- the sustaniac sustainer pick up.. 2- the fernandes sustainer pick up.. or 3- design something yourself! seriously... write out a design concept, a pick up that give yous the specific qualities you want, and google search a pick up make who will make it for you. ( MJ at seymour duncan will make anything you want! call them you'll see! ) and i just thought of the people at EMG pick ups. they may have something already made, or you can call them and see what they are willing to do for you.. sound is no joke! and when it comes to having "youre sound", there is no settling! so look into my suggestions if your serious about finding and having, YOURE SOUND! never give up! ~
Thanks. I only wish I had the time and knowledge to design a good, neutral pickup, then build a software modeller for different virtual PUs. It's an insane amount of R&D work. But i'll check those out... in general i believe it's time for software to take up modelling instead of dedicated hardware. There's absolutely nothing that digital hardware devices do that can't be achieved with a computer. Those things are just too expensive and cumbersome in 2018. That's why i really like Slate Digital's modelling (i.e VMS or VRS) - you have clean balanced mics, clean balanced preamps and all the rest is done in the box, the way it should be.
the video i am replying to is of you changing the pick up in your guitar and complaining that you want a certain response from the pick up to help you express your better on guitar! now your telling me your doing everything on software!?? listen, not only am i a serious player, but im also a producer.. let me just tell you that first of all technology will never replace the real things!!! ( in anything ) why? because the technology is designed to imitate things. and some do that very well.. BUT the original is always the best.. musically speaking, the one thing you will bever achieve with software, is dynamics.. and dynamics is very important in playing your instrument, and creating music! so my last piece of advice to you and everyone else riding on the software train, is first find the right pick up if your serious about expressing yourself a particular way on guitar!! and 2nd, get a real band of musicians who play real instruments together, and make music together, live! you can use your software for recording/storing new ideas, or a riff or piece of music you woke up with in your head in the middle of the nite.. but leave it at that. why? because the quality of sound again, is what you lose with software. i used to DJ too, with records, and i can tell you, the new technology is destroying musicians, and music! listen to some records of 30yrs ago, and older! if you can, get a vinyl record and listen from a turn table, and you will hear the difference. even an untrained or not so sensitive ear will hear the difference in texture and those dynamics popping out all over the song.. as well all the harmonics, and vocal instrument lines,.. just a totally differnt experience./sound.. you and anyone else can do whatever you like, BUT.. quality is quality, and you can say or think, the future i s where its at? but let me tell you, i was in the music world 30yrs a go, and im in it now too.. and i can tell you, music and society is going in the WRONG direction!!! with MANY THINGS! ~
does anybody know about a neck pickup thats not fucking FAT? i hate that fat sound. Ive been using HET SET actives which are just ridicilously fat and revently bought a RG550 and i just want something different. I want a neck pickup that doesnt sound like a neck pickup !
It's time you take matters into your own hands and start hybridizing your pickups. If you need tighter bass, use a shorter magnet and shorter screws. I really doubt the F-space changes anything in the neck position.
The problem is the effects your using for tone are terrible. Nothing to do with the pickups. And why are people trying to get bright, round tones from a neck pickup? Makes zero sense.
It could be the height of the pickup, thicker strings saturate more in the neck, it's just a matter of adjustment, I had that problem and I solved it by lowering the poles of the thick strings so that I would have a more balanced sound

You say synth like it's a bad thing ;)

This imho sounds like you have a compressor in the chain that is working to hard. Emphasising the noises you are hearing.

You should try a brighter pickup. Like a paf pro maybe even a super 2 .
Bro it may be your rig or amp or what ever you are using also. It did not sound that much different.Try a different distortion sound. .

Try lower gauge strings? if u can deal with the buzzing and it doesn't come thru too much plugged in, it should solve your problems

if you use a compressor with a low or high pass filter, wont it solve your problem?
That affects the bridge pickup as well. He’s looking for the best balance without changing his chain i think
Shred you want the evo. Max versatility Jupiter.
The imperiums are great too! F spaces of course
Action is to low on some string?
