so strange how products work differently on different people, when I use mine it's matte instantly and has no gloss or shine, and I feel like mine lasts a really long time even when I eat it's still there, maybe because it's a cheaper brand its pot luck on how the formula turns out on each one :p

I have the same product and I love it. It looked Matte on my lips and it does last a good while. Of course, eating or blotting will cause the color to fade but I do believe its worth the $3.00.
It's $3.. Sometimes you should not expect the same quality from every product especially considering the price you pay. Sometimes you can be a little more lenient on the cheaper make-up because hey what more do you expect? If it were a Chanel or YSL product then of course i would be a hard ass on it.
Haha the dance at the end! I really like your reviews, I think it would have been a good idea to review a different colour compared to red though, because red will always be more pigmented, and stain. But a great review still :)

i have the light pink and purple ones of these and those are definitely matte, no reflecting light. maybe the red is just different.

Once again awesome & informative review Judy! I would love to see a video where you list the most effective yet inexpensive/reasonably-priced bb creams, foundations, & cc creams for oily/combination skin. By the way, I'm more oily in my t-zone area
I tried this rich red shade & loved the color (wore it in a Broadway Lashes Review) but tired the Tea Rose (in dollar tree haul #3) & thought Uhk!...colors were hit or miss for me!
I have the Elf matte lip color in Rich red also, I've never had a problem with it blotching or not being matte. When I apply it, its instantly a matte finish, also it tends to stay all day from when I leave for school (6:30AM) and is still on when I come back from school (around 3:30-4:00PM).
I have this product in the color natural and I love it. It's a nice color, not too nude, and i feel like it has a bit of a mauve color as well. I personally find the natural matte lip color to be long-lasting, matte, and decently hydrating. I like that it's easy to apply and I can throw it in my purse. Its a very wearable color as well which is great for me because I'm only 16 and don't really feel confident enough to wear reds and bold colors. I have tried the jumbo lip gloss sticks by e.l.f and all of them are great except for the red. Personally, I think it may be the color. I feel like you might like one of the other shades better. :)
The Elf Matte lip colors I personally have, praline, nearly nude and tea rose are all matte; I think it was only the red color that had a little shine.

I m in love with these !. I have 4 of the shades and they are absolutely amazing. I hope they make more colors. I find they aren't matte completely ; to me they dry to a semi-matte finish.

This is the best red lipstick i've ever tried!!! I have purchased this twice and I LOVE IT!!!
I have the same one! It stays on and it's completely matte for me! I put on a very little amount of lib balm before and then I put on a thin layer. I wait for it to dry/set and then I put another layer on and proceed to do so until I think it's good. So if you don't put as much on at one time, it will turn matte faster and stay on longer. It's my favorite lipstick. :)

Judy!!! I just found out that at the opposite end of the the lip pencil, theres like a sharpener, all u have to do is remove the end. I was suprised, but yeah its a sharpener !!!

This is one of my favorite red lipsticks! And I do have Lady Danger which is from Mac. I just find this easier to use since it can be sharpen to have a fine tip.

I purchased the nude color and noticed that it would chap my lips like crazy!!! I tried it after putting on lip balm, but the result was the same. I ended up having to throw it away even though I really liked the color.

Something I love about this product is if you pull off the red part at the bottom and you open it , it is a sharpener to keep that nice tip
I love these lipsticks soo much!! I have the rich red one and the one in natural which I find is really good to put on top of other lipsticks when they are to bright or something and it just tones them down to a more wearable look. :)

I have Tea Rose and I agree, it's not a true matte, but more matte than a regular lip color. I love this color and wear it all the time. For $3, you can't beat it. I agree that you do have to put some sore of lip moisturizer on before and I add a Chapstick on to throughout the day, especially in the dry, winter months.
Love to see videos on makeup that is easy/safe to use when pregnant. Or quick/easy makeup/hair tutorials while trying to do chores and take care of babies.

MACs Ruby Woo is actually a Retro Matte, which is the most matte formula. Their conventional mattes however have a tiny bit of sheen, mostly so they are creamy to apply. So Ruby Woo is an exception.
I tried this awhile ago and I didn't like the color on me. It looks really pretty on you though!
Why would you compare MAC with ELF?
You should have made a comparison with other drugstore matte lip products, not high end.

Elf mostly just copies other products. This could be their try at a dupe of a MAC product.
She was comparing the texture, not the quality. Ruby Woo is matte and the ELF one claimed to be matte as well but it wasn't or she doesn't consider it matte.
Mac high end? It's made with the same stuff drugstore stuff is made of. You're just payng for he name and the exclusivity.

I love this product! You may be able to find them at Deals or Dollar Tree for only a dollar. I love the staying power. I have natural, tea rose, and praline. They are great to toss in your purse. I featured praline in my best of beauty video because it's like my lip color only better.
i got the elf essential lip stain, i believe in hot tamale, for christmas and used it once (so i'm not sure if the felt tip dries out easily or anything). it's really long lasting, matte and also somewhat of a "true red", still slightly orange-y. you might want to give it a try!
I actually love this product and it's my favorite red. I wear it alone and under other red lipsticks. It stays on all night!

Hey Judy! I love your first impression reviews, but could you do a favorites video for 2013 for all the products you've tried and ended up using throughout the year?
I have the light lilac purple one and that one is actually a true matte. I apply a light pink lip gloss over it and it looks beautiful! I have the red one too and I found it to look clownish on me and semi-matte.
I love the matte lip pencils in tea rose and natural. They are some of my go to lip colors.
Judy you should try more of Bobbi Brown cosmetics! I would love to see some reviews!:)
i agree on everything you said! i had this lip liner for a couple of months now and it does come off really easily, but for only $3 it's a pretty good price. $3 for a smooth red lip is a good price.

If you pull the red part off of the end it's a sharpener so you always have the perfect point! I found that out and thought it was cool lol the little things impress me haha
i got all of the shades at the dollar store. the lighter ones and great. overall i like them all
