I've been rethinking my critique format and had a second go at one of the first watch reviews I ever did. I really like this newer format and while the actual changes from what I'd done in the past are actually pretty subtle I feel much better about this style.
I often forget wristchecks so if you want to see what I'm wearing, my collection and other random bits of my life check out my instagram:

I have the Lunar Grey and I love the watch including their pilot watches. I feel many big watch brands have gotten lazy that most dive watches lookalike. The Alpina has a very unique look and love the square boxy feel. I do think 44mm is a bit large but sits comfortable on your wrist,

Have the green version (well, slightly green bezel version on green tropic). Absolutely love it, because it is so unique, is remarkably well finished for the money. Wears smaller than the dimensions.
The black Alpiner 4 on Hirsh carbon weave rubber is the daily though

I find watch critiques so much more interesting than watch reviews ! It feels much closer to how you actually experience a watch. I wish more people would take that route

Enjoyed the critique, especially after you’re having worn it for some time. I find it a more honest and realistic observation as we are all guilty of (and can’t escape) the initial honeymoon with a new watch. I also appreciated seeing some of life’s wear on it, to gauge how this model would wear, even though we all have slightly different lifestyles and environments. You have a good presence on camera also. All the best.

Some details that I pay attention to in a dive watch: 1) the lume 2) the quality of clicks when turning the bezel

You’re right, the natural place for this watch is on my wrist - 56B Wetherby Place, Bolton, BL9 4PT - thanks in advance 😀

Good Morning, I have been getting interested in affordable chronometer watches lately, MIDO, FORMEX, TISSOT. I think these appear to be great value. Also given what I just said you can probably tell I care about accuracy and I think that telling the accuracy in your reviews (more specific) would be amazing as some of us really care about this. Just a suggestion thank you for your content greatly appreciated.

I just bought the Seastrong Gyre version, I’m really liking it. I have the aqua blue one.

For the most part, a very nice watch.
As you mentioned, its missing a minute track. Very strange that a diver would not have full minute markers. So basically, you have the estimate the time.

Oh, and I really liked the black and white shots mixed in there!

Hell of a purposeful looking watch. Nice colour combination of blue and black. I also like the burgundy bezel and black/grey dial version. I am between this Alpina at approx 750€, a Citizen "Fugu" diver at 400€ or a Steinhart Vintage Red at about 500€. The Raymond Weil Freelancer 300m diver would be my preferred choice but is well beyond my budget.

I have tried this watch on many times, but never pulled the trigger...just a fraction too big for my "modest" wrist, but such a beauty

I think the size of Alpina watches is their biggest failing.
I like the aesthetic of the Alpiner 4 but it is 44mm!

    • @SecondHourWatches
      @SecondHourWatches 4 года назад

@@craigroberts5965 yes, with things heading back into more classic proportions Alpina would do well to introduce additional case sizes

@@SecondHourWatches I agree. They feel a little behind at the moment.
I need to try on the startimer pilot heritage GMT. At 42 it could be too bulky, but if the lug to lug is relatively short it may be ok. I'd just be more comfortable with it at 40 or just below.
And maybe reduce the price of that Alpiner quartz model!

@@craigroberts5965 yes, surely quartz should be a little more affordable... Unless it's Grand Seiko

i own thiss watch and I disagree on a lot of what you said.
I like Alpina because they are not trying to be like other watch manufactures they are not trying to do one more submariner hombage or Omega speed master, their designs are unique and they are not afraid to take chances.for example look at the alpina regulator.
Also the Seamaster really turns heads . the face is simple but it says a lot. I have 2 alpinas this one and the regulator and I love them both.
