I am 60 years old and have lived in both types. In my experience, by the time one reaches my age, most home owners appreciate the simplicity of single story houses and as you said nobody likes stairs.
It’s mostly the use of land for me, I have a smaller plot and want to build upwards so I can have more land to grow food and have chickens. I am in Florida, so no fireplace needed. Also, building on sand with a slab plus have a master bedroom on the bottom floor for the older person, the younger ones can climb the stairs.
I love my 1-story home (USA). It feels very spacious, and it's easier to flow from one room to the next. I use all of my rooms, even my second bathroom, even though I'm one woman in a 3 bd, 2ba ,1 story home. Instead, with a 2-story, people tend to stick to one story throughout the day and do not use all the house as much. I live in a really hot area, so excess heating is not an issue. I hardly use the heater at all during our very short winter. I'm also on a relatively large lot. So I still have a large backyard that is perfect for me.
Great video! Very well explained. A lot of info! Would have been a cherry on top if you would have had a summary at the end of the points you made! But thats a small thing:) thank you!
40 degree angle on the solar panels you say, which latitude in Finland are you talking about then? I am building a ground mount 20kw solar installation this summer and roughly figured out that an all season angle of about 45 degrees is optimal, but maybe 40 degrees is better as winter really doesn't produce much solar energy this far north. Nothing is finale yet, so please share your wisdom :D
Hei. I am from Estland. I suggest you to look for a stand, where you can adjust the angle. On the ground it is much easier then on the roof. So in the summer something 35 and at the winter 50. Helps to reduce the snow problem at winter as well. I suggest you to ask from panels salesman or just archidects in your region about the suggested angle as well.

Yes, it is good idea to build bedroom on first floor as well. It is nice to have bigger garden, yes.
Maybe the 2 story house owners are unsatisfied because they would like to live a 3 story house instead ?
Yes, some voters voted, that they would prefer one extra store indeed :D
I like your videos. No often added but when they are it is 100% quality content. Good job. Hi from Poland
Thanks. Hei from Estland!
This did not talk me out of choosing a 2-story house at all, but thank you for the heads up about the window cleaning and gutter cleaning.
