    They missed out the main reason for the car accident that Brianna, Roger and the baby were killed in. Claire had described time travel like being in a bad car accident. So Brianna, Roger and the baby travelling away to a time when they would not be alive at the same time as her (so all dead), and effectively taken away from her in her life due to a bad car accident which that is what she described time travel to be the closet way she could describe it.

    Jamie also says "You're shaking so bad, it makes my teeth rattle" which was one of the first things he ever said to her in person and in this context makes not a lot of sense since they are inside. I think it's a way for her to feel safe as Jamie has protected her from the cold the first time they met, but never stopped ever since, so he can surly protect her now too. It also makes a nice circle giving a reference to the point her new life started, at the point of her thinking it might end now. That was the thing that stuck out the most to me, since there is not a lot of conversation/people talking to Claire until the police arrives. All in all the dream-scene really is a masterpiece, but I didn't expect anything less from such an amazing show

Seeing Jamie all handsome and young and brooding like we saw him in season 1, seeing all other family members around the table in modern clothes, wearing our fav color, in our fav home, everything exactly the way we want, but simultaneously a deep dark fear of losing someone we love.... The point of the daydream is that Claire is Dissociating. She thinks of a worse tragedy than the one she is experiencing, which would be if she lost Brianna, Roger, and Jemmy and could never see them again. This worse tragedy thought sequence is what is getting her through the gang rape she just endured. It is a survivor mentality, that things could yet be worse. Also, at the same time, she floods her mind with happy thoughts and memories of being with family and friends, everyone being healed and whole, living in a modern home, with modern comforts, and having a Thanksgiving dinner, which may have been her favorite holiday meal. Those would be her joys and wishes.

    Never My Love was by far the most dramatic and disturbing episode of the entire Outlander series! It was so painful and outrageous to watch the brutality suffered by the kind and gentle Claire, as she plunges into the escape of a dream listening to her 60s love hit, the unforgettable Never My Love, a beautiful song that symbolizes what really matters to a woman like her: being loved and protected by the man she loves so much, while being surrounded by all her loved ones in a friendly and peaceful home. They were the last, happy thoughts of Claire, almost without hope, totally defenseless in the face of the cruel and deadly abuse of her captors, from which she was miraculously rescued, after finally being overpowered and killed by Jamie, Ian, Fergus and friends. Caitríona Balfe's performance was sublime and deserved an Emmy! She made us think that so many helpless women died in similar circumstances, with no savior to rescue them, alas! Last but not least, I will never listen to Never My Love the same way! I will always be remembered for Caitríona Balfe's remarkable performance, who portrayed Claire's dream of being happy and delivering happiness to her loved ones, even though she suffered almost to the point of death. Divine and redemptive!

    The dream sequence is an ideal version of the their family, Murtagh is alive Jocasta has her eyes , Fergus has both hands , he and Marsali have but one kid , Marsali is not always pregnant, Jamie is relaxed not over protective the way he is and simply lets Claire have fun , all the hardships of the past is symbolized as a painting beautiful and remote something to admire but not personal. Then we notice other things Ian is in uniform so there is a war going on somewhere and maybe it never reaches their doorsteps but it showcases that we haven’t learned from the past , violence is still a great part of our nature, then Claire is informed that her daughter her son in law and her grandchild are dead , dead because of an accident, safe as we might be in our present time our delusions of safety can be shattered by something very simple as accident, then the dream shifts a bit Claire sees one her attackers as part of dinner party ( symbolizing that death danger and uncertainty are part of our life ) then Jamie comes to her and tells her not worry they have each other, in face of death and danger we find comfort in our loved ones .

    I’ve read the comments about the water dripping from the ceiling. Some were very interesting and had not occurred to me...but, I always thought it was connected to the blood- or bodily fluids- that Clair saw dripping from the ceiling in the episode “Free Will”. It was when Fanny’s husband was lying on the second floor dying, being tortured, and no one to help him. Could that be why she would think of that? Although...he was a terrible human being who deserved what he got!

The two police that come to the door are two of the men that took her, and someone said the goblets were the same as at Castle Leoch. I thought she was dreaming that because she always says that it’s safer in her time, so everyone that she loves would be safe, alive and all well, if they were in the 1900s, but then the reality would hit that there are still dangers in that time, like car crashes, and that she could lose people even closer to her. Ending up making her realize that she is better in the 1700s after all.

    • @stephanieellis5399
      @stephanieellis5399 4 года назад +4

      He offered it at the beginning, yes, as a gift. However, after having to make the decision in the Star Chamber and then passively letting the King have his way with her, *she* picked up the orange and walked out with her head held high.

    • @annek5013
      @annek5013 4 года назад +11

      The orange was offered by King Louis XV as a symbol of his mercy. In addition he asks Claire to do him the favor of assisting in the judgement of the Count and Maistre Raymond, which she does. Instead of wishing for the death of the Count, which he richly deserves for trying to poison Claire and her unborn child, she asks for mercy for him (as Jesus directed the recipients of mercy must also do.) She has received..or will receive mercy for Jaimie..from the King, so she generously forgives the Count and wishes that he may live. That the Count dies is mostly attributable to Maistre Raymond's slight of hand when he adds the death inducing poison to the cup to which Claire had only applied the not death-inducing Bitter Cascara. That the King still demands that Claire lie with him in addition to the favor she granted him, shows the King still expects payment for his gift of mercy. No wonder Claire resentfully picks up the orange, the symbol of mercy, on her way out of the King's bedchamber. She has shown true mercy with no expectation of reward or recompense. The King has not. She therefore exits with her true dignity intact..her facial expression directed at the King reflects her disappointment at his tainted gift of mercy and further strengthens her forgiveness of Jamie for the death of Faith showing that she is the true recipient of mercy in that she extends it completely to others instead of seeking retribution as the King has done to her. This holds true for her continued acts of mercy toward others in her medical treatments, perhaps most powerfully seen with Lionel Brown when she instructs Marsali to inject healing medicine through the syringe. Of course, Marsali hasn't experienced Claire's life changing experience and she kills him. This was a most powerful and many-layered symbol put to much thought provoking good use by the talented writers and directors of the Outlander episode 13 of Season 5. Brilliant work by all and so well done!

The self that appeared to Frank Randall looked to be from about the time Jamie fought at Culloden. Maybe he was dreaming or semi-conscious and wounded after being defeated in the battle there or knew he was about to die and longed to live and have a loved one in his life who would motivate him to survive and who would bring him happiness. He had spent his young life either in hiding from the Redcoats or fighting for others and in self-sacrifice and never had much of a happy life for himself.
      In scenes in later seasons after Culloden, Jamie observed the rabbit romping around the battle field, often associated as an scenic Easter Egg representing Claire, then followed by an angelic version of Claire in a glowing and shiny white gown appearing walking toward him as God’s symbolic answer to his dying prayer coming to be with him soon and to change his life for the better.
      After that, his astrally-projecting self or a ghost in Jamie’s ideal form appeared in front of Frank Randall at the Inverness Cross underneath the window of the B&B where 1940’s Claire could be clearly observed under the electric light of the bathroom struggling to comb her unruly hair. This was after the prediction by the Reverend’s housekeeper of Claire having a split marriage line on her palm as a foreshadowing of her time travel. Perhaps Frank was supposed to closely observe the spectral or astrally projected Jamie to get a glimpse of his temporal rival. Perhaps this prepared Frank in a ghostly premonition of his wife’s future for her mysterious disappearance at the Craig Na Dun Stones. Frank and Jamie would be rivals for possession of Claire or for Claire’s love as his ancestor Black Jack Randall and Jamie would be. Time, space, and perhaps the Almighty work in mysterious ways in the 4th Dimension, even though we humans are mostly trapped in the 3rd Dimension that we are more familiar with.

    Anyone can give me a clue who was that man under the window watching Clair in Season 1 Ep.1? He looked like Jamie. What was the purpose of him appearing earlier? Was it a sign of her future destiny ?

      We still don’t know that. That is the only reason I still watch outlander. But recently I saw some teories about it. One of them says that when claire and jamie dies in the past. They are together until claire reborn in the 1900s) then she born again grow up marry frank all these times jamie’s ghost watches claire and waits for the day she will die. So their ghosts,souls can be together again. So probably jamie’s ghost is the one who is watching claire under the window. (Btw sorry about my grammar mistakes)

    I think that the reason Brianna, Roger and the baby couldn't go back in time it's because they all had to think about being in the future and since the baby only had memories about the time where he was in these is why the 3 of them ended staying in the 1770. 🙃

    Anyone know why the roof on the 60s house was leaking? There was a small leak that they kept on going back to. That's not been mentioned here.

      Sound of dripping water was preceeding someone's death in Scottish folklore IIRC. Also, Jamie fixed a leaking room in one of the houses they lived in. It might reflect that Claire's dream escape is about to crumble or that she is afraid of dying ( in the books she was suffocating with her own vomit with mouth gag too tight)

    The car crash could be a link to how Frank died and her loss.

      Maybe - except that that crash and Frank’s resulting death are what freed her to look into what had happened to Jamie, and to return to him. She didn’t love Frank any more at that point, so his death was really not a big loss to her.

    All of this is clearer if you've read the books.
