Flax Retting Day 5

Day 5 of my 2023 Flax Retting Process. I pulled out a new batch of stalks to test the stalks and see if they are ready for removal from the retting tank. I have tested day 3, 4, and 5. Day 5 stalks should be ready to break tomorrow afternoon on Day 6. It is a process you need to learn to get well retted but not over retted flax. Please ask questions if you have any.

A hair dryer works very well to test how far the retting has gone. Otherwise, waiting several hours can change the condition of your flax in the water.

Yes, that is true. However back in the day that is how it was done. I'd rather not waste electricity if I don't really have to and from my past work doing this I never found that a single day made much of a difference as I am testing daily.
