VANKYO 510 vs GooDee | The One Flaw of Amazon Budget Projectors

- The Vankyo Leisure 510 & GooDee are two of the most popular budget projectors on Amazon.
They have excellent reviews, and for the price I can see why, but there are three fundamental flaws.
-Blurry Section of the Screen
-Only AVI format videos through Micro-SD, USB Drive
-3600 Lumens is a lie, I compare it to a Sony 3200 Lumen projector

An honest and eye opening review as i was about to purchase one of these cheap portable projectors.
Rennel Enriquez glad you found it helpful. For the retail price they are not bad, but I’d recommend getting a good used one instead.
To get the blurriness out of the picture you have to set your projector at the right angle if it's off center that's what causes the blurriness is you not knowing how to set up the projector not the projector cuz I've had projectors do that before and that's what I thought I like your thinking it was a projector but after I moved it around a little bit it was me not the projector
The ununiform picture that you're talkin about is not having your projector Center right
Jack Goodell I agree that the blur ones comes from the projector being angled. But it has adjustable feet. It should maintain a clear picture even when angled to the maximum amount allowed by the adjustable feet.
@@Famvestor Vankyo didn't use a high end lens/focusing adjustment system in these types of budget projectors, and that's why the corner's of the image is a bit blurry when the projector is angled upwards or downwards (even when trying to fix the image with the keystone adjustment). To get the sharpest image possible from the 510 (and many other Vankyo projectors), the lens has to be around level with the center of the screen (up down, left right), which means in most cases, either raising the projector high enough off the ground, or lowering it quite a bit if it was ceiling mounted. Anything more than a foot higher or lower than horizontal center of the screen, will most likely lead to corner image blurriness when trying to use the keystone adjustment. If you are able to keep this in mind when setting it up, the quality of the image on the screen is not bad for a budget 720p projector.
The manual keystone adjustment on the Vankyo 510, is only good for very slight/minimal corrections. Anything more than a little bit, will end up blurring either the top or bottom corners of the projected image. The only solution to get the best/sharpest image possible from the 510 (and most Vankyo projectors), is to raise it high enough off the ground (or lower it enough from the ceiling), until it's lens is about level with the center of the screen. That way you don't need to use the keystone adjustment at all.
I know I am kinda off topic but does anyone know a good website to watch newly released tv shows online ?
@Skyler Harlan flixportal :D
@Abdullah Rex Thanks, signed up and it seems to work =) I appreciate it !!
@Skyler Harlan Happy to help xD
Great Great Great Review. Helpful info.
I was wondering about the Vankyo 470 projector. Does it stand up to the goodee or the vankyo's you reviewed? or another option is the MSC A 100 projector. What your thoughts on these? Thinking about getting it for movie nights.
Thanks in advance.
Great, review of the vankyo and more importantly a valuable comparison with the Sony. The comparison really shows the differences between a “proper” projector vs a budget one.
BaoBowser glad you liked it. There really is a big difference.
I just bought the Goodee version on Amazon, and for $200 Im impressed. No way i was going to spend $800 plus bucks on a name brand projector, but this one will work for backyard movies especially after I hook up an old Cambridge Soundworks set of computer speakers. The built in speakers on the projector are kind of weak, only 3 watts.
Thanks for filling me in on the micro SD card slot issues. It tried a non-extreme 4gb card with some old home movies and all I could get to was the file that was lableled private, and couldn't play anything. The manual is in horrible English and didn't mention anything about micro SD card files having to be in AVI format.
The keystone adjustment doesn't have much range, and it is kind of loose and sloppy. You can use the extendable front leg to raise the lens, but you have no side to side leveling.
For $200 new, I think its pretty neat, but I'm wondering how well it will last and if I will get anything near 30,000 hours of life from the lamp.
So did it?
Did it?
I believe that’s the GooDee model I used for my Halloween projects. It was the best of five I tried. My next upgrade is going to be a 1080p native.
This is the best review, and yes.. they´re all the same Beamerking, Elephas 720p proyectors... They´re actually Generic YG600 Proyector with little branding ...
Unfortunately none of these brands come up in the Amazon Firestick device config...
well dude you bought that sony from Ebay 10 years ago, did you change the lamp of that Sony projector at all plz explain a bit
Nope haven't had to change it yet. Still going strong.
The Blur comes from the cheap plastic lens use inside the projector for the keystone.
Just got a Vankyo Projector, its great..... 👍🙏🔥💯
I have the vankyo version, leisure 510. I wanted native 1080p and a brighter screen so I picked up a vankyo performance v620. I'm getting rid of the v620 and keeping the leisure 510 for these reasons..
The 510 has amazing sound. It has Dolby surround sound that works great and fills the room with rich bass and clear highs and mids. The v620 has one shitty speaker and bass and treble adjustment in settings, that's it!
The throw distance is shorter on the leisure 510 so the screen size is larger and for some reason it has less motion blur than the v620 1080p. It has better features, is better made, even the focus ring is tighter and doesn't flip around like the cheaply made v620. They both could be brighter though. Like you said, it's great for movies and stuff. I also noticed it turns on when I turn on my Xbox, the v620 doesn't.
The fan is barely noticeable on the 510, the v620 is twice as loud and has an annoying ring like a jet engine. It's slightly brighter and you can't see the pixels 10 feet away, but with an annoying fan and shitty audio and smaller screen size, I'll keep my leisure 510. Wish I could find a brighter native 1080p version of the 510, keep everything else the same.
Well I got my goodee projector for 60 bucks. . it's literally there's no complaints from me LOL I don't really see the blur to be honest I think it just depends also what angle you have it at. I actually received Sharp imaging from top to bottom and side to side
So what's the best projector for small rooms?
You recommend buying a used projector?
Milestone, fabulous review! Timely and important, thanks!
Whats your camera set up? Are you using a gopro 7 with a rode mic?
Toshi Suzuki gopro5 with rode pro mic
I just bought the VANKYO for $60 cause it was on sale. Picture quality is good enough for me. Txt in corners is voidable but it doesn’t bother me to be honest. Blurr corners in movies are not really noticeable.
So what's up with this review? Shitty set up I think? Projecting on a garage wall.
Have you used outside during the day
the vankyo 510 needs to project straight on to avoid blur, it's a fantastic projector for the price and perfect for movies and gaming if you're ok with that
I agree that having it straight on does seem to avoid the blur, but it also has a built in step angle adjuster so that you can angle it... so I feel this should have been accounted for. Anyway yes it does do a good job as a budget projector.
Great comparison but I'm a little confused isn't the GooDee YG620 7000:1 contrast ratio and the Vankyo Leisure 510 is 3000:1 contrast ratio. Those are the official specifications
Any recommendations for a projector with text visible in those areas.
What used 1080p projector would you recommend that could be found in a similar price point as the Sony you mentioned
I would just set-up a search on Ebay for a 720p with HDMI capabilities, built in speaker, and over 3,000 lumens.
But if you want there are a couple more of the same projectors I bought for ~$150 here: www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-VPL-EW255-WXGA-720p-3LCD-Projector-with-Speaker-3200-lumens-VPL-EW255/273692165564?
Can u make a video about the setting pic setting. I’m not sure how are the setting
Very cool review, I was looking to buy one vankyo 510, but now that I see the difference. I am very interested in the sony you got. Could you tell me what's the model?
Bruno Cortes I got the Sony VPL EW 255. I really like it.
so how many hours do u use that sony projector a day or in a week
Not much, maybe 4 hours a week.
the vankyo projectors are good and have great quality for their low price I ordered 3 from Amazon
Lamp life is a huge factor when picking up a used higher end projector. They don’t last long and the replacement bulbs are very expensive.
What model is your Sony projector? How much is it? Tia
Mad Brawler I bought a Sony VPL EW255 from ebay I think in was around $120 bucks.
It's those blurry corners that killed it for me. I usually go for high end projectors. Recently, I've gotten into short throw laser projectors. I got a Vankyo about 3 years ago, just to try. Tried as hard as I can to fix the blur but it's a hardware thing. I thought of buying one again today, maybe the tech has improved and those blurry edges aren't a thing anymore but nope, still there. Go for an entry level Optoma. The HD146X is a good one for 500 bucks.
Can you give the link that you used to buy the Sony vpl ew 255 from?

Thanks for the review dude
tahir patan my pleasure. Hope it helps.
Fantastic
Do you happen to know the latency on the vankyo leisure 510
StellaGotHabits sorry no idea...
I went with an old Promethean. 720P 3D DLP.
I bought a cheap ass projector to test if it would work for me. Seems it should. The cheap one will go my niece.
Wish I had watched this BEFORE i bought the GoDee. Anyhow still helpfull
This is not even a fair comparison between the Sony and the GooDee. First thing the Sony VPL-EW255 is a 3LCD projector as where the GooDee is a LED+LCD. The second thing is the GooDee from some of the other videos I have seen it's a lot brighter than what's being shown in this video. I'm not saying that the GooDee is a good idea there are quite a few defects but it's not as bad as it's been presenting here.
Knight 11692 I reset each projector to the factory settings, I think each could have been made brighter... just sacrificing lamp life at that point.
Anyway I agree they are not the same projectors at all. Just the two projectors I happened to try out.
What’s Projector did you end up going with?
@@Famvestor I have the JMGO N7L smart projector which works great I was just looking around because a friend of mine was looking for a more affordable projector.
FamVestor what do you suggest me to bay something about 200$?
Hassan Alsh I would buy a used 720p >3000 lumen projector off eBay, make sure it had HDMI inputs.
FamVestor i dont know any thing about projectors ,so if you can help me and i want a name of something new that could be about 300$.
Does Vankyo 510 works with netflix?
VYNX_CO it’s not built in, but if you just plug in a fire stick, chrome cast, or roku stick you are good to go.
Yeah, you shouldn’t buy Amazon projectors for $119 on Black Friday. And your argument is?
Buying a projector on ebay! Good luck with that! I can imagine how long that will work. Used on ebay like a bad lottery.
As far as the Sony, yes, better lenses and a shorter life HIGH output lamp. The good! You can now get these LED projectors for
$100. At that price, new, it's hard to complain. I've also found that you have to tweak the green and red levels. These cheap projectors green, green, green. You need to turn that DOWN and boost reds and a number of other things to get somewhat richer colors. And, of course, movies only and LOW, LOW or better yet NO LIGHTS, lol! You can get a decent movie image for cheap in dark settings-that's their thing.
Do you know the name of the bulbs to replace the goodee bulb
Alexa Lehman sorry no idea... I tried googling it but didn’t see anything either. Try contacting their customer support support@alphastech.com
i wanna truly know wich is the best model (not brand xD) of this type of projector is, cause, every projector that is 3lcd/dlp have better image of course, but for gaming they arent good cause input lag, and, with this type of projector who is LCD and Led, has the same input lag as a tv or even less, cause literally they use an IPS/TFT screen, like a phone screen, so, there will be direct image whitout the need to convert it to be used ion 3lcd/dlp chips, that means no lag, sooooo, this type of projector may be arent the best for movies and all that, but they are the best for gaming, only the fullhd native 1080p with more than 300 ansi led lumens are good. Also for the price, no more than 300 dlls, they are awsome. This one as i saw is not the best of this category.
Yeah, the $1000 projector is way nicer. Great info. A budget device is a budget device.
are they loud????So can u just sit without sound?
Yes very loud (2x 3watt speakers), in a small room like this there is definitely no need for any additional auxiliary speakers, just use the ones built in.
@@superskbman Thanks for the reply. Sorry I meant the fan noize?i heard DLP is quite?
Alex S the fan noise isn’t bad... a very light sound, Sounds like a desktop computer when it’s on.
GREAT VIDEO>>>>
mkg vc thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
Nice review I just bought 1080p for 225 euro I hope will be good
And is it good?
How much for the tatami?
Ryan Locke got em off craigslist for like $35 a piece. But normally they are like $200 a piece new.
If you do a video. Keep the footage on the screens not your face
I want 1 of hundred dollars projector
Jammer over the door
