    "Crazy that the game doesn't explain that..."
    Agreed, but remember, this is an old game. Back in the day, games usually shipped as a disc (yes, even for PC!), and came with a small booklet, explaining the important things you needed to know before starting. In the case of Mass Effect, one of the things explained in the booklet was how the dialogue wheel worked.

    • @Ghaladd
      @Ghaladd 2 дня назад +2

      they also sort of explain it in-game on the tips at the bottom of the pause menu, not as extensive as what's Paragon and Renegade but it does mention how things on the right advance conversations (I do miss booklets tho!)

      Not just that, the tutorial of ME1 is almost as long as of RDR2 but it's very clunky, designed for experienced gamers. "Omnigel exists, now pick that lock. Missed a dialogue option? Too bad, we'll add a Codex entry later."

    Great fun watching ! Killing enemies is worth experience points, which is what you need to level up. So, leaving them alive and running away is missing out. Whether it's geth or worms (thresher maws) they are valuable---dead. Your level also determines what weapons are available.

    The only other couple of tips I will give is to make sure to talk to all the squadmates on the ship after every story mission, their character progress is important not only for this game but other games in the series. Also equipping better armor and weapons will help with difficulty as well. That's it, enjoy and have fun!

  • @bloodymares
    @bloodymares 2 дня назад +5

    I see Garrus taking rockets to the face and dying first is going to be a thing now, eh? 3 times in a single episode :D
    1:03:30 - Hey, you're not dying (aside from your encounter with the worm and the turret you forgot about) and not missing much, so I'd say you're definitely better than average. These uncharted missions are harder than some of the main missions. And then on Therum when faced against Colossus you applied more strategy than 80% of new Mass Effect players that died like at least 5 times there. I definitely died a lot more during my first playthrough. And you survived the infamous Krogan Battlemaster! That is assuming that we see is an honest first try and not just the successful take.
    By the way, if you want to revive fallen squad members, you have to upgrade Spectre Training skill in order to unlock Unity power. Medi-gel only heals the team when they're up. Hopefully it's not considered backseating, it just seemed like you were confused why you couldn't revive anyone. You only learn about this if you examine each talent's description.

    The worst part about finding this series today is that there are only two episodes so far.
    Regarding the dialogue interface, that pattern (left investigation, top paragon, bottom renegade) was actually described in the game's manual (Mass Effect was originally released in 2007, when printed manuals were still a thing), but apparently that didn't make it into the in-game tutorial.

    Also, if you look at your skills page you will see a blue gauge, and a red gauge.
    The blue will fill if you choose to be nice, and red will fill if you are mean.
    Your choices will affect your crew too.

    The game doesn't really explain the dialogue wheel more in-depth, but that also lets you just focus on the options you're most interested in or you feel YOUR Shepard would say, rather than just "Click all the good options if you're 'good', and all the bad options if you're 'bad'"
    ...which also makes it that much cooler to check out people's playthroughs to see what choices they make and how different their Shepard ends up being.

    Hi and thanks for the content! Regarding your plan to first do main missions and then side quests. Be aware that there are a few main missions where once you complete them, a bunch of side missions become unavailable, and the game will not tell you this. I can't remember how common this is in ME1 (I don't think it's a major problem), but it is an issue in ME2 and especially ME3. So in a completely made up example, let's say you have side mission 1 and 2 takning place on space station X. However, you first go for a main mission where you have to destroy X, and therefore you cannot complete 1 or 2.

    Yeah no one likes Ambassador Udina haha. I give him sass too. I tried to be nice at first but then I ended up enjoying telling him off. Also with the dialogue wheel, the game was made in 2007, years before games started telling you everything. So just a sign of the times. But it's kinda nice figuring out some things on your own, even though quality of life is nice in modern games. Enjoying your play through
    *Edit, I was able to figure out the dialogue wheel over time because I noticed after I picked the top right option, sometimes I would get Paragon points, and when I picked the bottom option, sometimes I would get Renegade points. And I realized Investigate was usually on the left side which allowed me to ask more questions without ending the conversation. But it would be nice if it was better explained, I agree

    • @KahliPlaysGames
      @KahliPlaysGames  2 дня назад

      @abovewater6918 yeah thats fair. I kinda of like the idea of doing both instead of just good or bad. I think it makes sense to just go with what fits the situation, even if it's technically "bad". 😁

  • @zarif_chow
    @zarif_chow 2 дня назад +1

    3:40 I personally think it's better that Mass Effect doesn't explain it and lets you guess which one's tone is what. In some other games that use the Mass Effect inspired dialog wheel, such as Dragon Age and Horizon Zero Dawn, the way the icons for each dialog option reveal the tone sort of breaks it for me, as I no longer get to speak my mind and how they'll take it becomes visibly clear.

    • @KahliPlaysGames

    Doing well so far. Some points - Before leaving the ship always make sure that you up unspent skill points for your squad.
    As a soldier you do not Decryption or electronics skill. Used to open doors and containers. Good news Garrus has them! Increasing electronics skill also increase the Mako shield and the amount that is repaired.
    Medi-gel will heal a character before they are KO'ed. If you look at your talent tree under Spectre you find the Unity Skill - revives KO'ed squad mates.
    Enemy Krogan regenerate health, Once is KO'ed, twice is dead! Never let a Krogan get up close!
    Surveying planets gains items. There are a lot of them! Some are more important than others! But they all give credits and XP and this goes up as you level up. Never pass up easy money or XP!
    At least after every main story mission talk to your crew. To fill out their backstory! Helps you understand them better!
    As for the story this is your first play through make it yours and enjoy it!
    When a planet says you can land it is side mission.
    Asteroid X57 - is a former DLC quest that became part of the main in Legendary Edition.

So, if you didn't die at those encounters that's pretty solid. And you figured out that the power wheel is very important to surviving those harder encounters. Yeah, the game didn't do a great job at explaning the basic stuff (which kinda sucks), but it's fun to explore the options on your own, too. Though, I wished I had known how important every decision in the games (and they follow you through all three of them). If this counts as spoilers let me know. If so I apologize, that's not my intention.
    It's a really old game (I think it was original released in 2008). The legendary edition is a remaster of the orignal games. They didn't change the story, just greatly improved the graphics, especially of the first game. To this day the game has one of the most epic stories I've ever played (I count all three as one game).
    Wrex is one of my favourites, too! His comments can be quite funny. He's usually in my ground team. And you can be as sassy and mean as you want with Udina (the ambassador). I don't know how he ever got his job. He's so annoying!
    The Mako is the most annoying vehicle I have ever driven in any game. It's so bouncy...
    I like your way of playing, recklessness and all, but I do think you're a little too fond of the sniper rifle for that approach...

      @fairyshiona4093 Yeah, it is a bummer, but I did forget it was older (the Remaster is so good) and that older games don't usually explain everything. It's so cool that all the decisions matter, I absolutely love when games do that.
      Heck yeah Wrex is the best! I love him so much already.
      I'm glad you are enjoying my chaotic approach lol. I got some upgrades on the assault rifle so I'll likely use that more
      Thanks for taking the time to write out this comment! I appreciate it!
