Yes. It's unbelievable how he could have been so forgotten for so long. Thank goodness we have all these videos to watch and listen to, I feel a bit cheated not having heard of him sooner.
I don't understand why we never heard about this potential genius in Europe, though Klaus was a German! Klaus had so much potential to advance his career. He could have been the same "thing" as Elvis Presley in the 50's or Michael Jackson in the 80's, who will be remembered as talent people now, later and forever.
The Nomi Song is one of my favorite docs. Klaus was one of the most unique artists to appear in our world. He lived his personal vision with no apologies and style, wit and mind bending creativity!
Same here! I stumbled upon "Lighting Strikes" and was in total shock/excitement and I needed more. After watching the documentary I fell in love with his story, and I cant stop listening to his music! Since day 1 I've woken up with his songs stuck in my head, no joke. About a week now. lol
24 de diciembre del 2022, 4:48 AM He descubierto a Klaus Nomi, un talento asombroso que desconocía su existencia.. Gracias RUclips nos traes Dioses a los simples mortales..
I had never even heard the word "countertenor till I was introduced to Klaus Nomi and his awesome music. I just wish I'd heard of him much sooner than I did. I know I would've enjoyed him just as much as I do now. I was so amazed by his vocal range after listening to just one song. That's all it took!
This song was originally by Doris Troy in 1963, then it was reproduced by Hortense Ellis, Mark Farner, Bryan Ferry, Ted Hawkins, Lulu, Kirsty MacColl, Martha & the Vandellas, Bob Morrison, Mystique, Osha, Peaches & Herb, Michelle Phillips, The Hollies in 1964, Anne Murray in 1974, Harry Nilsson in 1976, Linda Ronstadt in 1978, and Klaus Nomi in 1982.
Seems to me that Klaus is getting even bigger today, than way back then. The reason, I think, is that his music was far ahead of his time, plus the fact that we can view quite a bit of his performances here on YT {which is helping to create new fans}.
A real brilliant and weird talent. And a real loss for humankind. I would literally have given A FUCKING PINT OF BLOOD for him to have lived, and covered "Sweet dreams are made of this" by The Eurythmics. Just think how epic that would have been!!!
Just a side note. Brilliantly weird is not a bad thing! Brilliant and weird in one person is next to being on a higher plane of existence. Very few people ever achieve this. ( Syd Barett, H R Giger, Salvadore Dali, H P Lovecraft, and of course Klaus among many others)
This is an incredible Nomi gem! Too bad he's gone. Had he been around today there's no doubt in my mind he would have a singularly unique superstar! Rest in Peace!
Yo creo que mucha gente ha conocido a klaus a través de youtube, y me incluyo, y la verdad que klaus tiene una apuesta muy interesante mezclando tintes de ópera con el pop de los ochenta. Su estilo muy particular es bastante moderno.
Did I really comment only month ago? Wow. I got the albums on CD and vinyl now, the DVD, a poster and a tattoo. Yes, I think Klaus GOT a new fan in me. *sighs*
Colin Emslie I also missed out on this great person...I stumbled upon him by chance and love everything about him.... I've always liked slightly 'strange' souls as I am one myself....i've found his music to fit in with my persona perfectly...xxx
The UK knew about him thru the underground, Steve Strange from Visage, Pete Burns from Dead Or Alive, Bronky Beat were influenced by him, worldwide the list is too long, even Jackson. The mainstream forgot about his legacy but he's a legend no matter what, historians know. Its great that you love him at 14! Im 32, singer/musician i was influenced by the people HE influenced, 1st heard about him in 2004 even tho i was heavely in the 80's music since 96 ,became a fan the moment i heard & saw.
I have a very simple but iconic graphic of his hairline and eyes and it says "Nomi" from the "Lightening Strikes" Background underneath. It's on my upper arm. Everyone asks me who Nomi is, and I get to educate them! XD
Just one look I felt so I, I, I'm in love With you I found out How good it feels To have your love Say you will Will be mine Forever and always Just one look and I knew That you were my only one I thought I was dreaming But I was wrong, yeah yeah yeah Oh, but I’m gonna keep on scheming 'Til I can make you Make you my own Can't you see That I really care Without you I'm nothin' Just one look And I knew I'll get you some day Just one look, that's all it took! Just one look... (repeat until the end)

Yeah I agree with what trylonperisphere is saying because they both may have borrowed from the same tradition, but I don't think anyone was really imitating the other group.. but besides that, I must say that it really did take just 'one look' 'cause I saw his image on the Nomi Song documentary on Netflix and since watching that, I have been watching his videos, listening to his music, completely immersing my self into total Nomi World.. I can't stop! It took just one look! ;^)
@trylonperisphere His look is an hommage to Gustav Gründgens act of Mephistopheles. A German actor who did a famous impression in Goethe's Faust. This look is mephisto (of Goethe's Faust). The devil.
Es gehört zur Liebe der Deutschen, erst dann lieben zu können, wenn keine Gefahr mehr besteht, dass die Liebe enttäuscht werden könnte. A post mortem love will last forever.
I first heard of him when I saw him on Bowie's TVC15 Saturday Night Live appearance with the poodle with the tv in its mouth and thought, "Oooh he's interesting!"
I didn't even see it. Actually I have no idea why it suddenly hit me, but I pestering everyone around me with his music. Just heard two days ago The Nomi Song was on Arte. Could bite my ... I've missed it. What an artist!
YW. I never met Klaus. I know some people who knew him. Joey responded to a post I made once, but I don't think that quite qualifies as knowing him. :) Wish I was in NYC.
My minor claim to fame re this tune! I was in the studio during arranging & recording and threw in the suggestion to Tommy the keyboard player: try hitting those constant upbeat reggae/ska flavored chords which seemed to be a distinctive propulsive fit. yay me haha... hey fans get the new book CULT ICON on Klaus, it's a treasure trove
He redeems History. i forgive the world everything: it gave me Klaus.
popbottle exactly
But does the world DESERVE Klaus?

What an image. What a voice! 🤗 💕

He's great with opera but he even enhances pop music so much.
We are who we are brought me here! ✌️✌️
i remember listening to him....years ago...No one really "got it"....His performances were "all for me". He is most definitely missed.
Love this guy.
Friggin' freaky as hell but in a damn good way! So humorous yet sweetly touching the campy clown in all of us.
exactly! :)
Simply amazing. He may be gone but his voice will live on.
klaus is a cosmic event, and may take so many time to happen again
Grande Klaus
Klaus is the most gorgeous creature to ever walk the earth. Even seeing a photo of his is a real pick my up 🤗
Absolutely magnificent. A real masterpiece. Thanks for this. 😊
Seems to me that Klaus is getting even bigger today, than way back then.
The reason, I think, is that his music was far ahead of his time, plus the fact that we can view quite a bit of his performances here on YT {which is helping to create new fans}.
Great performance by the late great Klaus Nomi!

@ Dragon Lancer. Dali is a really good reference here. Thanks for that.
One pint of blood!? Absurd, ungenerous, useless.😊
This is an incredible Nomi gem! Too bad he's gone. Had he been around today there's no doubt in my mind he would have a singularly unique superstar! Rest in Peace!

Sin olvidar su sentido del humor, su increíble voz, y su gusto por mezclar y cambiar. Un ARTISTA, vamos.
y el hecho de ser absolutamente encantador 😍 🖤
Omg I absolutely love this !!!

I love the original song by The Hollies, and hearing Klaus perform it just makes me love it so much more!
what happened to me I missed him brilliant, persona. only found out about him 1 month ago
Better late than never :)
Learned about him briefly in highschool music history. Spent the least amount of time on him, yet he stands out the most in my memory.
Cool class (music history)!
It´s me wanted to say ;) Better late then never. He is german as me, did grow up with him why Bowie.
Colin Emslie I also missed out on this great person...I stumbled upon him by chance and love everything about him....

Not bad! I think Klaus did a fabulous job on this one.

probably my fave of Klaus's non-operatic songs, either covers or not covers. :)
お若くして亡くなられたのが大変残念です
ウチの両親より年上の方ですが、早すぎた天才ですね
Cool bass line
Děkuji vám, Tomik.
life is so good
Just one look
I felt so I, I, I'm in love
With you
I found out
How good it feels
To have your love
Say you will
Will be mine
Forever and always
Just one look and I knew
That you were my only one
I thought I was dreaming
But I was wrong, yeah yeah yeah
Oh, but I’m gonna keep on scheming
'Til I can make you
Make you my own
Can't you see
That I really care
Without you
I'm nothin'
Just one look
And I knew
I'll get you some day
Just one look, that's all it took!
Just one look...
(repeat until the end)
Sounds fantastic, and yes, I get asked who "Nomi" is, too, and I'm always happy to tell them. :)
erinnerungen an die frühen 80er...wie ich noch jung war....
The same here. I cannot stop listening to his music since I saw "The Nomi Song" documentary on german TV few days ago.
He rocked!
Opera, Balet and Bubblegum Pop. A natural combination, don't you think?
Indeed, except for the fact
that opera singers are
usually really well educated .
Heard this last night on XPN's Land of the Lost and I hated it and loved it so much at the same time, haha.
+James Bunting Same here. I had to pull into a parking area so I could give my full attention to this song as well as the others being played.
+AnnsChoice So freakin' bizarre :P
supreme xxx
erinngerungen an die frühen 80er...toll
Klaus was born on January 24, 1944.. We miss him and all that he brought to the Avant Garde scene in the 70's/80's music era..
A true Aquarian
yup the ultimate outsider/rebel!
Обожаю Клауса
+Галина Замилацкая Не все мы?
What a shame he would have gotten really big. His voice would have been great for the darkwave movement. The song made me senimental RIP Klaus

We Are Who We Are
To be fair, KW was doing the white face and lipstick look a few years before Klaus. The both borrow from the Weimar Bauhaus and other German culture.
KW???

Inusitado e único , estranho , talentoso, singular ...

“Who are who we are” brought me totally here
Today a four foot tall, very young Appbee's hostess had tons of eyelash glitter. And also, Nomi lives in my 64 year old soul,
@trylonperisphere

Klaus Nomi was a really unique singer. He should've had more chart success than he did.
I like it.
deeeply impressed/ thx popbottle.
Souhlasím!
Great singer ahead of his time, unfortunately died on his own due to the mass hysteria of AIDS at the time.
Not all his friends abandoned him.
