  • This groundbreaking new documentary Football’s Coming Out asks why there are currently no openly LGBTQ+ footballers playing at the highest level of the men’s game in England. With Joleon Lescott, Patrick Bamford, Amal Fashanu, Ian Holloway and many more, we explore what would happen when a Premier League star were to publicly come out.

      Doesn’t really seem entirely genuine, seems very stilted when he’s talking at certain points like about calling a player a bully. That interaction didn’t happen like that, players aren’t children and that isn’t how people in football talk. If you want to have these discussion, you’ve gotta be completely honest and that isn’t.

  • @GreenSharder
    @GreenSharder 2 года назад +20

    I’m sorry but so much of this doesn’t ring true. It isn’t honest enough. If you want to confront it head on, you can’t have people going “well you know we’d support them, we’d all support them, anyone that wouldn’t wouldn’t be welcome in the team”, it doesn’t feel honest at all.
    Everyone here is acting like the problem isn’t with them or the group they stand with, we know managers wouldn’t be completely supportive Ian, we know footballers and captains wouldn’t be completely supportive Bamford, players aren’t doing that for a reason, I mean are you really telling me no gay players have gone through the changing rooms in either of their clubs, and just from the way they’re talking you can tell neither of them have dealt with this, and there are reasons for that. This is lip service to a long standing issue that you can’t confront by going “there’s no problem with me”. If you want to confront this properly, you have to get complete honesty, and this isn’t it.

    It would be very surprising if there were any openly LGBTQ+ footballers playing at the highest level of the men’s game in England, since there is no such thing as an LGBTQ+ footballer - or an LGBTQ+ anyone else. That ridiculous, illogical initialism does not denote any genuine category of persons.

      @@J234-gw7he You are being nit picky over what I am saying. I was just meaning the way people live their lives, everyone has choice in life. I understand that others don't choose the way they are, but they choose how they live and who with. I am free not to like or like anything, that is my right. What is not my right is to bully, attack verbally or hurt others physically. Everyone deserves to live in peace, and I wasn't just talking about sexuality, I was speaking in general. My belief is no matter how people live via choice, or indirect albeit non or semi choice they deserve basic respect, inclusion and decency. What would you rather someone decent enough to keep their disagreements and feelings to themselves, who doesn't cause others problems and lives in peace or someone who ostracizes others for not liking what they do? Oh and btw it's shit like this that's causing the problem you say. Well newsflash not everyone is gay and understands why others are, newsflash that is completely ok. I am not attacking anyone over their sexuality, hurting anyone physically either. I have no interest in who any footballer sleeps with. Whether Gay, straight or whatever else, I say that because there seems to be many other categories now. I accept and respect that person and if like any player they do well for my team I will love and support them, same as the rest of the team. So no you are wrong, I am not the problem.

      @@lee8821c I understand that, who we are and how we choose to live are symbiotic. They can't really be separated. They have a relationship that generally affects the other. I understand and respect people don't choose, their sexuality, race, sometimes religion. Life is complex. All I was saying is to others regardless of whether you or I like what we see from others, it doesn't matter. Everyone should be decent when mixing with others and not bully or attack people for how they live. This is my code for living.

    I don't really see the problem, most gays don't like football anyway 😂. A gay player shouldn't take homophobic chants etc personally. Just as someone who has a big nose/ginger hair/a penchant for grannys will get songs sung about them, often by their own fans. Ultimately it doesn't matter and the majority of fans really don't care - the media as usual wants to bring ideology into sport, where it doesn't belong. I have black friends, gay friends etc and we all say offensive things to each other about our stereotypes. Its a sign of affection and friendship because of the context its used in.

    If a player feels the need to make an announcement then they know what to expect. If they care or allow the opinion of someone they don't know and probably never will, hurt them. Then may I suggest they either keep their sexuality private like most of us, because we don't give a fuck. Or they re-read the 'sticks & stones rhyme I'm assuming they learnt at school.

    I honestly believe Ronaldo is gay & will come out long after he has hung up his boots.
    If a player was gay that had or was currently playing for my club big deal
    be open about it move on.
    I dont see it as a massive deal or even a big deal in this day in age.
    Would there be Mickey taking yes let's not lie but people have taken the Mickey out of me my entire life because I have Homosystanuria & the fact it makes my hands look skeletal like people used to say I looked like Skeletor & my reply was you had better make a run for it then because if I am Skeletor I am comeing for you & it would make the other person how had sead it in the first place laugh what I am saying is if someone has something to say about someone comeing out as gay then the person how his gay just has to say something like well your 100% safe from me because I am not that drspeit in the first place.
    I have had friends come out as gay but we always know this friend was gay she came out & it was a case of we always thought that was the case why did you not just say so years ago it's no big deal at all & we just carried on as before nothing changed friendship wise.
    I have met people also you would never have guessed where gay in a billion years one older guy how looked like Kenny Rogers I would never have guessed he was gay unless he told me but it was no big deal.
