Jim, just started to play with this. Fun times ahead. Thanks for the great tips. By the way, I am using a Windows PC and the Option key from Mac to Windows is the ALT key.
Hi Jim. I like your tutorials a lot. the clone tool has, what consider, a major flaw/problem. In your example you cloned out 3 areas. If you had a hand hiccup at the end of the last portion on the last stroke, and want to undo it, you can't. If you hit undo all of the work in that session of the tool use is lost. You can't step back stroke by stroke as in ON1, or Lightroom. Undo is all or nothing! You have to create a new instance of the clone tool for each object if you want a partial undo ability.
Hi Jimmy and yes that is true and my hope is that we finally get an undo function in Neo so we don't have these irritating little issues from time to time. We will have to see. thanks
So glad this has finally arrived. One of my main uses is to repair burned out highlights in clouds and water etc. The erase tool just won’t work for those.
Great tips on small strokes and going slow with clone and stamp. I used to always do the opposite. For some reason I didn't think I would get the Clone and Stamp update because I thought it was an extension, and I didn't pay for the extensions. But I just got it in the latest update. Thanks, Jim!
Jim, why Command-Z does not work on Mac? What I want is to undo the last clone move if I make a small mistake; I don’t want to go back and work from the beginning. Any thoughts/help are welcomed!
Hi Jim: I don't know if there is a bug in this version. After you have done your clone works, if you click the Catalog, click develop tool and back to the clone tool, your previous clone works are all gone.
Nice, Jim! One question: can you keep the source point in the same spot - not have it moving with your brush? It's frustrating when you pick up something you don't want and start brushing it in. BTW, you're rocking that new hairstyle!
Haha thanks, the hair is getting long but I'm inclined to keep letting it grow and see how much longer I can stand it LOL. Regarding the source point, no it moves and I do not know of any way to fix it in place. But I actually think that is a good thing bc if you have a single point that you repeatedly stamp onto other areas, I think the photo would not look right. Just a thought. Thanks for watching.
Hey Jim! Glad the Clone and Stamp arrived! Nice tutorial...great explanation between the Erase and the Clone and Stamp. On another note, has there ever been any interest in a Text layer? I have been using another program to do that. It would make it nice to do it all in one. It may already be on the "wish" or "nice to have" list. Keep up the great work! Always fun watching your videos.
Thanks so much Jack, I appreciate it and no idea if there is a text feature being planned - if so, I have not heard about it. We will see but yes that could be useful. Thanks for watching!
Hi Lysander and honestly once I got the update, I went straight to the tool and planned/made this video, so anything else I ignored. I will take a look. Thanks.
Hi Jim: I can't seem to get the clone and stamp tool to work on my Dell Inspiron 7500 2n1 Laptop using Windows 11 I can click the source but I can't get it to paint. Do you have to hold down the left mouse key? I have tried that and also I have tried not doing it. I have 16 GB of Ram so do you think it is not enough? The erase tool works fine!
Your video is how I learned of the new update, thanks for posting! Now I won’t have to go out of Neo & use Photoshop-assuming the results are as good. Have you had a chance to compare the two yet?
Hi Shannon and thanks for watching. No, I have not compared to PS simply bc I never really use PS. 😁 I have never liked PS and although it is incredibly capable, I find it overly complicated for photo editing, hence why I do tutorials on other products - I simply think they are better/easier for general photo editing. Thanks.
@@JimNix Definitely agree re Ps complexity! Seems the Luminar products as well as others are catching up with being able to do what a lot of people need. I tried to figure out something in Ps the other day. Tried for 2 hours, gave up & accomplished it in Lightroom in 5 mins! Thanks for the response & look forward to your next video! 🙂
@@shannonpage6741 ha see that is exactly what I mean - glad you were able to get it done and yep I think products like Luminar and On1 are more than capable of being a complete photo editor for the majority of us.
You make this look easy but I've always struggled with it. Probably because I don't understand if -- on my Mac -- I'm supposed to hold down the Option key the entire time I clone or do I simply push the Option key one time and then let go? Love your videos. Hope you can help me. Thanks.
@@JimNix So I was having an issue with my mask not showing up and I had to go back into the edits to use them, but I rebooted the program and everything seems to be working correctly
I've been kinda binge watching your Luminar Neo videos. They are superb, thanks for them! I have the trial version and will very likely buy it. The pricing is super confusing though. I'm struggling to understand why the Extensions pack is more expensive than the base product, and yet, it's also totally unclear what you'll get with it when it's all said and done. Any insights?
Hi Joe and thanks for watching my vids, glad you like them. The extensions pack for 2022 will include 7 products, 5 of which have been announced or are already available: HDR Merge and Noiseless (both out now), Upscale, Focus Stacking, Background Removal. The last 2 have not yet been announced. These are pro level tools for advanced editing options, hence the cost. I agree it is somewhat pricey but if you were to buy individual products for these specifics functions from other companies it would cost much more. Thanks for watching.
Tip 6: Sometimes removing lots of objects and replacing them with something bland will lead to an ugly featureless area that messes up the composition ;-) Sorry I was not criticising your photo or your technique. Those things had to go but it did leave the photo looking a bit unbalanced. Perhaps you need to use that same tool to stretch the house ;-D (just kidding)
Unfortunately - it is DESTRUCTIVE at the moment. No Ctrl-Z, no possibility to get it done on a different Layer - if you make a mistake - you're doomed. Step in the right direction but there is quite a path to walk.... ;-)
Hi Bojan and yes I do hope they add Cmd-Z so we can back up, but I do not consider the tool destructive - your raw image is never harmed. You can always reset the tool and start again.
@@JimNix I agree... it is not destructive in general terms - yes - you have the possibility to reset what's done but...... usually, when you are "repairing" a certain area (cloning, deleting, brushing..), you are ( I know that I am doing that way), usually going slowly, gradually, with a lot of small steps, making the area as natural as possible. I don't know how many times I "screw up" the thing just with the last stroke (Murphy's law I suppose.... ;-) ), but there was always a simple way to "Undo" it. In PS I am using additional precautions with separate layers, so if I make a general mistake or if I don't like, where the "repair" is going, I am just starting another layer, delete the"wrong" one and that's it. As I said - Neo could be a great AI intuitive and helping tool, but there are quite a few "holes" to fill. Anyhow - thank you for all your effort and enthusiasm in your videos - you are pumping us up with knowledge, ideas and always fresh energy. You are truly an inspiration. Keep up with great work and can't wait for another one.... ;-)
@@TheBilly962 yes it would be much better to have an UNDO function for sure, would save us lots of trouble possibly - thank you for watching, I do appreciate that so much

Glad to see clone and stamp added. Luminar Neo is becoming the Luminar 5 we all hoped for. Amazing what they can do in the middle of a war.

Hey Jim, that was a good video. Can you make a video use this same tool to remove wrinkle and under eye bags? Thank you Jim
Hi there and thanks, and I can put that on the list of things to explore.
Big thanx Jim! So strange that this tool is in L4 and was not in Neo.
thanks for watching Phil and yep not sure why it took so long but I sure am glad to have it now!
Jim i have been using clone and stamp in Faststone for years wondered why it took Luminar so long ?
Jim, It keeps the tool after you are done, what is the key to escape / drop the tool? normally, it's the escape key to get back to the pointer.
Hi Michael, you mean when you are finished with clone and stamp? I just click on the tool bar to close it. Thanks.
Jim, why Command-Z does not work on Mac? What I want is to undo the last clone move if I make a small mistake; I don’t want to go back and work from the beginning. Any thoughts/help are welcomed!
Yes you are correct Danny and hopefully they add the Cmd-Z into Neo bc we sure could use it on tools like this one. Thanks.
I wondered why as well, Danny.
Great to have the update somewhat disappointed cmd Z is not functional
How this tool can be included n an update without the Cmd-Z is beyond the most basic of logic. Sorry but that’s just an honest fact.
Agreed. I often used Cmd-Z and miss it
Hi Jim: I don't know if there is a bug in this version. After you have done your clone works, if you click the Catalog, click develop tool and back to the clone tool, your previous clone works are all gone.
