- In our series, Profiles in Service, we highlight Americans who dedicate their lives to helping others. The New York City Police Department's elite Emergency Service Unit is like a SWAT team. It handles a wide range of scenarios, from hostage situations to rescues and presidential security. Detective Tina Guerrero is one of the roughly 500 members of the ESU. Only 10 are women. She is also the only female counter-sniper in the NYPD. Norah O'Donnell met up with Guerrero and joined her team on a training exercise to the top of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Worked with Tina in 1994 in the Bronx . We were rookies together. Let me tell you she is for real a little dynamo. A great cop and a friend .Im since retired she's still going on strong and with three kids . Stay safe my sister. 44 forever.
i agree!..wow!..my respect to our law enforcement!.
You sound like a lovely gentlemen. If only more men spoke about women like that.
I had the opportunity to work with her in a few occasions. She is an absolute professional. Thank you for your service.
Pat Q yup I spoke with her for a few minutes on a violent EDP job very nice lady.
A professional isn't fat.
No you didn't
SEAL TEAM 6? I’m a former NYPD cop and ESU training is no where near SEAL team training. Get your facts right! lot of respect to Detective Guerrero on all her accomplishments.
She said esu training was the nypd's VERSION of the navys seal team six not that they were similar training regimens. Words matter.
Pan Werv seal team six training methods and courses are classified and aren't open to non-DEVGRU operators lol. It's still a stupid statement.
@@MandenTV Yes I know that seal team six training methods are classified. How is that relevant to this conversation? I think we can all agree that seal team six is more exclusive then Navy seals. What are you not getting?
Pan Werv Hmm, you don't seem to understand the video or my comment. That's okay. Never mind.
@@MandenTV It's the other way around bud - you don't seem to get it that's why you are bringing up irrelevant information. I really can't be bothered to explain what I'm saying 10 different ways until you get it. It doesn't matter to me if you don't get the video or my comment.
Thank you, Officer Guerrero.
She's a detective but ok
I haven’t came across a female ESU Officer up until now. SALUTE!!!
She’s extremely inspirational
Women, boldly going where countless men have gone before.
American Citizen, wow. That is so rude.
NNCubing is it really though?
Monty, yes it is.
NNCubing i mean if everything should be equal why is it important that she’s a woman and not just another officer?
@@monty1691 caught him lacking
fearless woman
Props to you
I’m just glad the department is becoming more and more diverse which is very important in this city.
What a lady, officer and mother!
God bless u!
I have mad respect for this woman
My dad is a Sargent in ESU my dad also climbed the varsano and Brooklyn bridge
Good job !!!
Outstanding.
I salute you ma'am!!!!!
lisa Guerrero and Tina Guerrero
Revan One not related tho
JustGhostRevan hmmmmmmmm
To Detective Tina THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE 👮
Tina guerrero your awesome and an inspiration to others god bless you.
Detective G is a badass.
Awesome!!!! Thank you Ma'am for your service!!!!
She's one of them. And she's the best.
Badass! Love it!
I question how good this team really is. What are the fitness standards there?!
Awesome!!!! be safe
God bless you
awesome
But the real question is is she related to Lisa Guerrero from inside edition 🤣
All these negative comments from people who can't even pass the pre-screening far less pass the Academy.
You go girl, great work.
Thank You!!!! Such miserable tools
Agreed, women should not have lower physical fitness academy requirements than men. Equality for all.
That reference to SEAL TEAM SIX (6), was completely DISRESPECTFUL to the TEAM..... Though I congratulate her on her accomplishments, in a mostly male dominated field, & think it's great actually TOTALLY FREAKING AWESOME, I don't think police work can be fairly compared to what the TEAM'S do, or level of training. CONGRATS OFFICER, & may I wish you a safe tour of duty every night your out there in that jungle they call NYC......
Jerry Wells I agree unless any member of the NYPD have serve they could never compare them self's to a seal team, there's no comparisons between the training and skill level, credit to the lady but bad media reporting.
NYC is the safest big city in the USA
It's pretty darn close, probably closest thing to it
You're right police teams are more trained and skilled than the Seal Team 6.
No one in the comments is sof or specialized police units lol
I taught rifle and pistol marksmanship for the US Navy, for 30 yr. rifle instructions were for 200 , 300, 600 , 1000 yard's, NEVER 100 yd's, like to talk to Her as to who was Her instructor was. I'm sure She's a good shooter, and qualified.Does she partake in Rifle & Pistol Matches ?
Awesome 👍
"44 for Life" Go ahead Tina!!
jeez shes one tough lady
AND TIO LENNY!!
Very inspirational to many women, but did you see the size of her forearms damm. God Bless her and her family
Yeah! You Could Tell That She Works Out A Lot And Really Strong. Don't Let Her Height Fool You. I'm Sure She Threw Someone To The Floor Plenty Of Times.
Make a movie on her. She is the definition of badass.
Top work...im tried to walk over Brooklyn Bridge and cudnt do it
I have no doubts in this officer's abilities. I served with women in the USAF Security Forces that showed strength and dedication daily in all their duties. I'm sorry but I don't really like to separate men from women in the performance of police duty. No matter what shade of blue or color of their uniform. Well done Officer Guerrero, well done.
I agree, female NYPD recruits should not have lower physical fitness requirements than men. Stop separating the genders.
Great job
So you expect us to believe she meets the PT/physical fitness standards for THE ESU?!? Right....sure she does.
She met the pt requirements when she first joined. You can tell from her past photos that she was slimmer and more athletic. Now they keep her on because she has experience and she can teach the new generation. Police officers who have a lot of accolades and/or experience are given free passes to fitness requirements. Pipefitting is also a very physical job. The reason that construction companies keep so many 50 to 62 year old Pipefitters is because they pair them up with younger and less experienced Pipefitters and the combination of muscle and experience gets the job done more efficiently.
Pan Werv well responded !
i'm pretty sure that you don't either lol
That woman's got more balls than I've got. I'm afraid to even go up on a one-story roof
That’s one badass chick !
Good for her !
Stay safe
Awesome! 🇺🇸✌🏽
My inspiration ✊🏽💞
I take nothing away from the great risk and sacrifice the ESU does on a daily basis for the citizens but the reporter comparing the ESU to Seal Team 6 is a quite the reach. Commend the ESU for the great work they do and leave it at that.
Aspiring Runner, she meant that they are the NYPD's version of Seal Team Six.
MORE Female Counter-snipers, MORE, MORE, MORE.
It's not that difficult or Dangerous 24-7, a firefighter goes through worse.
Firefighters don't get murdered/ambushed.
She lost lots of her co-workers on 9/11 n she could hav ben there too, but by the grace of god, she had a baby. So saying that it’s not that difficult or dangerous is like saying a lion is not as dangerous as u might think
@@slapshot68 A lot more firefighters died on 9/11.
100 yards? I can take my 22 out to 200 yards easy 😂
Congratulations 👍
"Tina Rocks"
good job NYPD Iam from Indonesian Police
She must be good at sniping in fortnite
Nice. Scope makes things easier
She has Michelle wolf's smile
Yousef ALMana lol yeah
Yousef ALMana eww that’s gross
Michelle Wolf is a disgusting pig.
Justin Nother don’t insult pigs like that by comparing them to that monster
What? You mad she made fun of your supreme leader? :'(
To all the key board warriors out here, thank you for your service!
100yds???😂😂
Wonderful.....HERO
Tina gurrero haha I thought they meant lisa gurrero from inside edition🤣 still awesome lady
Jose Toral, lol. Same
Wolf, it’s the same people only the NYPD ESU citywide units see a lot more action over their 20 year careers during peacetime. “A whole lot of people are well trained commandos in this world, Man.” Municipalities have that too, now.
100 yard shot with a Remington 700? That's like fishing in a paint can... either way I commend her for dealing with the trucks egos
Okay, but why just honor the woman..there are a whole 500 members
because she's the only one lol
max rothschild The only one who risks her life everyday? I'm 100% sure all police officers are risking their lives everyday when they put that badge on. There are multiple women in the ESU not just her.
max rothschild And hundreds patrolling and in the high ranks of the NYPD
Captain Selos they’re showcasing her because she’s one of the only women in the unit, which is remarkable because of the uneven ratio of males to females. But of course every officer is great.
Caleb Otero nah I get that, just wish there was more representation for all people
Somany negative comments. She is doing a fantastic job and it is not an easy task to be a member of the Emergency Service Unit. She dedicated her life to public service while at the same time sacrificing family time. There are alot of barriers that still need to be broken to have equallity in the LEO field but she is spearheading and leading the way. Here in the US it is taboo in a sense but in countless countries (like in Dominican Republic) women serve in the special forces side by side with men and people dont look at them differently, they do a fantastic job!
Who's at the top military wise (hint its not the dominican republic)
Love it
Love the NYPD
wow!...im 55 now and that was my dream. To be a police officer and then a detective. Maybe thats why im hooked on Chicago p.d. and Blue bloods...
That's great, but as a competitive long range shooter I am not impressed with "consistently hitting at 100 yards". We ground zero our rifles in at 500, and calculate out to 1,200. Now that's precision shooting. None the less, my hat is off to you ma'am, and I hope to join the LEO ranks in the next few years.
Good job
*Is she related to Lisa Guerrero from Inside edition?*
Great women detective hope all well with lot great soon,
Beautiful woman
Why does it matter, if women want to be equal (which they are), why are they treating her specially because she’s a woman
Latina Guerrero ♥️ and President said a bad people pleases ..!!!
IM COMING FOR YOUR BRAND TINAAA! LOL I hope to be half the cop you are soon.
I thought it was equal rights so why does it matter she's a woman
Did she get here illegally? I doubt it
I am glad we have females in the force but if we start saying that we need more and firing other officers for women and other races or get it that won’t be good. Same with other professions. Which is why people are against things like quotas when it come to diversity
But u Also need to know a higher up yo get that position don’t get it twisted
lol Remington 700 and 24 rifle..that's cute
I would trade that Army M24 for a Marine Corps M40A5 .
I’m in love
100 yards? Most civilians who shoot get a tight grouping with iron sights at that distance. Not really impressive. Seal team 6? Devgru? Their training is classified because they're a tier 1 unit. Not open to non-DEVGRU personnel, not even to police department.
This was not a Remington 700 and this woman did not know how to properly load a rifle magazine... must explain the wage gap...
Its a Remington MSR, with a 700 long action. She loaded the mag just fine.
Ana, reporting for duty 😂
Wow 100m sniping with a rifle designed for a lot more for the cameras
At a 100 yards? Come on now!! My 10 years old can make that shot with no optics!! Would've been more impressive if you start shooting from 500 yards on..you see that requires some skills but 100 yards? Nah!!! I'm sorry but if that all she got..thanks but no thanks!!
Trade ceters being rebuild in the background look no joke 2:11
100 yards is nothing...
Ohhh hubby’s on the squad too…hmm🤔
I’m sure she’s a great shot, but she doesn’t look like she could still pass the physicals. Which should be a requirement for ALL Police in similar positions.
LOL. A lot of cops are out of shape. Should be a standard, but they don't care
Was this unit defunded? It’s militaristic
Great woman!
my PMI in parris island was female, so what? If she meet the standards who cares. Gurantee all the people saying she doesnt meet fitness standards couldn't run 1/2 mile.
I met her once and she's a awesome woman. Its annoying to read some of these negative comments. Majority of ya wouldn't even pass the qualification as a candidate, let alone ESU. smh This is inspirational!
Agreed, women are every bit as capable as men which is why we should abolish lower female physical fitness requirements for police recruits and get rid of the chivalry.
Mata that's old news 🚓
GTA 4
1:41 She use to pull tricks.
100 yards isnt really impressive, counter snipers are supposed to be much further away because guess what, the snipers they are trying to eliminate are too. Basic Bootcamp [Marines for example] they have to shoot at a range between 200 yards to 500 yards, and thats with the ACOG scope [4x]. She is rocking a much larger scope, probably a 12x or something like that and brags about shooting 100 yards.....thats pretty weak.
No way she passed the actual physical to be on ESU... she’s a pencil pusher
In the past she was more athletic and slimmer so yes she did pass the physical to be on ESU.
You must be one of the guys who lost the spot to her
❤
