Nice freaking intro bro! I love that you actually put a story behind the start of a "Let's Play"! Love it! Looking forward to binge-watching this series as this one comes out. A couple tips: You should right-click mine past the "Dust/Dirt" level until you get down to the Stone level in order to gain more stone per time mining. Also, you should have gone towards the ice lake/ocean to find the base location, that way you would've had almost unlimited power with H2 Engine... (Just my 2 cents) Good vid so far. Looking forward to the rest. You earned my SUB with this series already!
Good series, add splitsie's sneaky sounds as a mod, will save our ears..😂 also you have silver and other matts, make better tools. Last point always keep 10 steel 10 int plates on you then you will nit strugle so much to place things.
Enjoyed the video. To answer your closing comment on what went wrong with your drill. Your piston was lowering too fast, causing the drills to be too deep to rotate. I run a similar drilling setup. What I do is set the maximum distance on the piston to 0, then set up a control station viewing the work sight. While in the station, bring up the "G" button menu and put the piston in your hot bar with the selected action as "increase maximum distance." That way, you control the decent and can wait until the rotor has made a full rotation until dropping it. Hope that made sense, I'm not good with verbal explanations and more of a visual teacher/learner. Im sure there is a way to automate it but im not that advance in the game yet. If you are interested, I could send you a video of how my drill is set up and what I mean if I just confused you, lol.
@ResearchMonkey437 I do not keep them on constantly as mine has 30 drills on it for mining ice to fill my hydrogen tanks. So it fills my 7 large cargo faster than it can process. So I also have my drills toggle on/off on my control panel hotbar as well as rotor lock on/off so they aren't running when I don't need them to. Might I suggest "build vision" for a mod? It is great for renaming things you have multiple of and gets rid of the guesswork on which ones which. Again loved the video, I'm looking forward to watching this series.
also build a chair on you base, you can charge and stay charged while you mine, for me it was important to name every piston, drill and rotor, if you build a big drill you needs LOTS of cargo space and MANY more large refineries, I usually do 2 speed mods and 2 yield mods if energy is plentiful - here is how I did mine tubes out to field, cargo container at end for access, 4 - 6 pistons up, 2-4 pistons out, as many down as you can fit and still build the drill platform, if you don't have auto build mod you are using, wielders are easy to use (just don't touch the hot end)
Using B&R does not unlock the progression, that's why the camera failed to unlock when B&R built your base battery. For efficient production, use the Survival kit to refine the stone, just queue up 5-10,000 ingots, the refinery can do the proper ores. Refineries draw ores in the order they are stored in cargo so put what you need first at the front of the queue and the stone at the back. The ores did not pass through from the drills because the rotor part had not finished building, however, that was not the cause of the drill rig getting destroyed. Combinations of a rotor and pistons on a drill rig need carefully balanced speed control to prevent the drills being smashed the way they were, if you click on the speed sliders for the rotor and pistons (each has to be done separately) you can manually input as little as 0.001 increments until you get the balance right.
Ctrl + click the sliders to get a popup where you can put figures in for the plunge speed and rotation, you were setting the drill to drop way too quickly, you need to make it almost spin a whole cycle by the time its dropped 0.5m. Also you can space the drills apart with cargo junctions, they mine one block around them I believe so drill+cargo+drill is the same as drill+drill+drill, just saves you resources.
Good stuff! I love these SE letsplays and stories. 13:20 - "I need a spot to replenish my energy rather than going back to the ship" BOY, IF ONLY THERE WERE SOME SORT OF CHAIR OR COCKPIT YOU COULD SIT IN. Perhaps one you were actively building at the time..... XD
Ive found the least complicated way of doing an extending drill is with 4 heads across from each other, each slapped to the side of a central conveyor block connected to a rotor. Then you can set your piston speed to as low as possible. Turn on the drills, rotor, and then piston, and walk away. All 4 drills will rotate together, forming a perfect round hole in the ground and it will never move down too fast to get stuck. When it's reached max depth, reverse the order to fully retract it and move it all with a vertical rotator on your main support arm located before your double pistons. If you're using pistons on the arm, i wouldn't use a hinge. It just risks tilting your drill in bad ways with little to no benefit. You're also going to want a couple of refineries to keep up with it. Gravel from the rocks will take up a lot of storage space. Either use a connector to eject it somewhere, or there is a mod called Gravel Sifter that will give you tiny amounts of random ores and clear all of the gravel out over time. Good luck!
Tough start. This has the makings of a great series. Edit: 20:25 Atmospheric thrusters will work no problem. I have a atmospheric miner on Europa which also has 0.25 G and it works perfect
wind towers, 13 tall above floor, 1 turbine on top, down 1 block (12 tall is max power), 1 block in all 4 directions with turbines out sideways on them, makes lots of power
Hey bud, little tips about the building of a drill. Build the drill with a rotor on the refinery, then a piston going up, then a corner conveyor, then pistons heading out as far as the start of the ore patch. Another corner conveyor heading down and add a rotor under that. Then have pistons going down to the ground. Raise the first piston to lift the entire thing off the ground to add the drills. Add 5 drills from the centre all looking down. First rotor is for manual control. Same as the horizontal pistons. these are there just to aim the centre of the drill rig. The rotor at the start of the drill head should be set to do .2 rotations per minute. Depending on how many pistons you have going down, you should have them all add up to a total movement of 0.01 per minute. Might be able to push this to 0.1 but you run the risk of damage to the drills moving too much. Then you set the rotor and drills and pistons to a single group. Have a button somewhere you can press that will turn these things on and off. When you hit the button the 5 drills should turn on and the rotor should move the whole thing round whilst the pistons lower it into the ground. As you build each of these, you should be labelling them so they are easy to find later. Hope some of this helps.
@@haylus3636 Nanobot Build and Repair, the mod building he added that automatically builds stuff for him. Sometimes called "bob" in the community, though I'm not sure why. Maybe a Bob the Builder reference, though that seems tenuous.
you can make small and large grid drills by using the rotor attachment, what was fun was large grid pistons up, out and down and at bottom switch to small and use small grid drills as they are so light, have as many as you can afford wide and 1 or 2 sideways to protect the sides of end drills, wanna get crazy with it? put on welders to self repair the drills and the rotors, I usually go large grid pistons 4 up 2-4 out and 4 down if you can fit the 4th, if you build it in tubes out to middle of the patch and have a rotor on top of the mine tower you can get like 350' rotation and that could be up to 80 feet deep and how ever wide you made your drills
oh also to go deeper and deeper you can detach the drill head at the bottom, drawn in the pistons, add new ones and reattach the drilled - I build the largest drills and solar panels that I have ever seen back when I played a lot, not even Splities huge solar panel was close to the one I built one time, it powered 24 large upgraded refineries and I think 12 upgrade assemblers with about 100 batteries buried underground to protect them from the assertive attacks, maybe 24 or 36 large cargos and about 12 to 24 large hydrogen tanks to quickly load and unload my large grid hydrogen powered miner, whole base was heavy armor and turret and missile trees out at the corners, was lots of fun as there where 3 assertive bases that attacked constantly and about 3 that were periodic
When you're building your first small grid ship/rover you could use a rotor on the base and a small head instead of the landing gear. That way you can charge it's batteries from the base without waiting till enough is welded to take off and dock.
The thing that broke your drills off is the fact that it was going down faster than it could drill out. Your drills were doing fine at the first because the drill heads were above ground. Once they got down a bit farther, the drills were hitting on their sides into solid ground. Drill heads couldn't clear the way for the rest of the stuff. You need timer blocks or an event controller to regulate the plunging pistons. In other words, set it up where it goes 360 degrees THEN plunge the drill another few meters THEN go another 360 deg. Don't worry about it...we ALL started off like this. ALSO...Turn off the nano bots until you have everything like you want it. You will be fighting those things the whole time. Set some stuff up, turn them on. When they are done with that part, turn it off and do the next setup part. Rinse and repeat.
A tip to save on Iron early game is to use steel blocks on the outside of a building but the floor out of interior walls. They are cheeper and still look nice.
It was extremely frustrating watching you build that drill but kept me watching lol. You should probably have the rotor at the very beginning with a few pistons point up. Then go out with a few pistons and then back down with a few. The first set of up pistons should then be extended to give you the starting position.
Your production from the drills was being held up by a piston head that wasn't completed. Also, you may want to just build a block framework over the area you want to drill resources from, hang an arm of conveyor tubes, advanced rotor, and pistons from the center of the framework, then pipe that back to a large cargo container. Pipe the large cargo container to your refinery. Just a thought. Otherwise, good premise, good set up on your sound, which I find lacking in 90% of new SE content, and fun, slightly fumbling gameplay. Lol. So...just how I play.
Your error also was: You started the Piston going down before you started the Rotor going around. For the next try: first the Rotor, than the piston. Piston head wasn't finished. Also you wont go down very deep. Build the first 1 -2 pistons going up, extend them then loop back down with 4-5 pistons build the drills below that area and set the advanced rotor to 3 rpm and the pistons at 0.05 if single. if you don't, the piston heads will break from the pressure. Also you should have put the hinge before the horizontal pistons so you could swing them around and collect more area.
be wear of BARS it will eat random rover wheels.. if you have neutral blocks set for grind Ive never found out and i wish the mod creators would fix this issue... im guessing it has something to do with the actual wheels being a sub grid to the rover itself and how it affect voxels.. ive had this happen sitting there... driving or my base would just do it if i didnt have BARS on the rover Love the vids and hope to see more of this series.. Pained me to see you not clearing out your build planner and re-adding all of those power cells to production every time you went to build something. Honestly, the build planner stops being useful quite rapidly when you're using B&R, because it only removes items from it when you build them yourself. Definitely going to want an auto-crafter, like Isy's Inventory Manager (PB script) or Production Quota (mod) to just automatically keep everything in stock, because forgetting to empty your build planner after starting production is going to waste a LOT of resources. On a side note, because of how dampers work in Space Engineers (for the engineer, at least), you slow down a LOT faster if you release all of the movement keys than if you try to slow down my holding the movement key in the other direction. The engineer's suit has a damper strength of 5, meaning it is 5 times as strong when acting in damping mode, ie. trying to bring you to a halt because you're not pressing a movement key, than it is when you're trying to fly in a direction, even if that "flying" is trying to slow down using the movement keys.
I always build my line of batteries in the floor under where my large refineries are going (they have lots of hit points), especially if playing assertive

Hi. I randomly found you video. Can you share your start save or setup? I want to play along. I just reinstalled SE after watching you EP1. When's EP2 coming? This series is looking great. Keep it up.
your last piston head was NOT finished .... and btw you need to complete a rotation BEFORE you lower it ... instead of rotating scrape using 2 drills deep and as wide as you can handle ... then a row facing out horizontal so you lower it down a notch and push out and scrape of a layer for as many pistons out as you want retract and lower again ... rinse repeat ... then you go out as far as you want to put pistons and down as far as you can build a piston chain ... afterwards cover it weld it closed add guns etc and poof instant underground base roof ... good for building a ship under protection
55:44 You didn't finish up the piston part on the piston above the drills and resources can't pass thru, also, since you set the piston to 0.1 it is pretty fast compared to the rotor speed, the drills stuck to the voxel and since the piston part wasn't built *only 1 steal plate* it broke the piston part and disconnect the drills.
Also, your drill issues were, 1) You had them descending faster than them spinning. Which caught on the ground. Next time I'd suggest having them do a full rotation before descending. 2) Yes, the piston head was not built. Preventing the stone from transferring.
Thought this was gonna be an enjoyable watch but when you spawn in h2 and o2 tanks when you can't hack the start is kinda cheesy. Also is young a build and repair mod. Oh well...
This is difficult to watch. I'm amazed that you are making a series of this game without knowing how to make a basic drill arm. It will be interesting to see you improve. If your channel makes it, it will be really fun to hear you cringe at this video later.

I would use solid conveyor until vertical, then a few pistons then rotor hinge with 1 drill lets you make a huge hole
For the build and repair you use, scroll to the very bottom and you can change the volume on the welding sound
Great video, have you tried izzy inventory management mod. You can create a list of items to automatically build.

I think the nanobot mod is better then build and repair, it feels more balanced since it uses a lot of electricity

You can turn off the little experimental mode banner in the settings.
What is the name of the mod you used to build stuff automatically?
which mod do you use for that building gadegt/ bot builder thing to build blocks you have placed down I need that mod in my life lol
It’s nanobot build and repair! It’s incredibly helpful
You should link the build and repair to the assembler asap
I like your story, where was the video when you built the space station?
It’s a secret 🤐
What mods are you using?
Honestly if you know the game, i'd just remove Progression next time you start a new game
Awesome intro and video mate
New subscriber 😊
Thanks for the sub!
they blew up your base, but you just have the basic tools?
What is the spawn location called
what is the mod with the build and repair thing?
I think it’s just called nanobot build and repair!
What mod is the auto builder?
It’s nanobite build and repair!
you found a oxygen bottle realy
I believe it was from the wreckage!
You need to use advanced hinges and rotors to transfer ores
What world mod is this? Or better yet, you have a steam link to the mod list? :)
It’s actually not a world mod! It’s just the regular solar system scenario! And I don’t have a mod list yet, I’m sorry
@@ResearchMonkey437 no worries at all, but in either case keep it up! I enjoyed the video :)
@@chapsie thanks a bunch! Looking forward to having you in the community!
What is your mod list?
I use the build and repair bots, exploration enhanced, build vision, and reavers
can you share the mod list you are using please :)
What mods are you running?
Nanobot build and repair, Speed limit 500m/s, reavers, and modular encounters!
@@ResearchMonkey437 Nice. Is that water and ore mods as well?
@@robertthomas-ball9416 no nothing for water or ores!
@@ResearchMonkey437 Ahh. Looked like you landed on Mars with water and platinum.
Oh well...
42:04 i wonder if that video is getting demonitized, cause of the randomly generated German Hakenkreuz / Swastica in the ore Deposit
Oh my god I never noticed that, I hope not 😯
Love the story telling but you cheated :P Military doesn't like cheating :P
It always catches up to you 😅
This is difficult to watch. I'm amazed that you are making a series of this game without knowing how to make a basic drill arm. It will be interesting to see you improve. If your channel makes it, it will be really fun to hear you cringe at this video later.
In classic right wing fashion, reap the rewards taxes provide but refuse to pay. They love socialism that’s only for them but not for all. Why can’t people come up with something less awful and more original?
Please don't wave the camera around in circles to point at something, it does the opposite and its nauseating on a big screen. Had to stop watching, which is a shame.
Less than a minute in and I you are allready bombarded with US right-wing political memes.
Is this your first time playing SE? You're dog water bro.
I gave this game a try but it was so bland and empty, any tips on how to make it more fun to play?
I thought the same thing at first, but after playing for a while it got more interesting as I learned more! And adding npc mods help too
