I went from a tray system to a vermibag mini this year. I did a lot of reading reviews and searching forums and people seemed to think vermibag was better quality than other bags. So far im happy with it. I had some rollerblade wheels from an office chair input on the stand to make it easy to move around the basement.
I have a 6 week old Worm Bin 360. And I have a shoe box of breeding adults that I set up 2 weeks ago. I started with 500 worms since they are $$$. I’m hoping to expand my herd in this fun way. I’m sure I’m past 1000 of them now.
Definitely especially if they are red wigglers. The double in mature breeding adults every 3 months. Maybe less when It is over 85 or below 55 f. The cocoons don't hatch as fast. They are still viable but go dormant at those temperatures. Good luck.👍🏼🪱😃
I started with a few 27 gal tubs. Now I have 37 breeder bins and 2 DIY CFTs. First one is 3ft deep 3ft wide and 5ft long. My other is 5ft wide 6ft long and 3ft deep.
i have 4 of the VermiBags. I have the Micro, the Minimist, The Mini and a Lil Mammoth as well . I keep the African Night Crawlers in the Lil Mammoth , I have my mixed worms in the others. The Micro is for my Grandbaby girl and it started out as a Science project for her home school and now she just likes to do the worms with me . I bought my first VermiBag because that other one I had , like you did, that just was not working out . I watched you build your stand and Tom build his for the Lil Mammoth and made my own . The other 2 bags were gifts for Christmas .
I have a few remaining old gourds from Halloween 2023 - and as you observed with yours, mine are hard as a rock also. For that reason I submerged them into some water & they''ve been _'steeping'_ that way for a few weeks now. Even now, after all that time soaking, they're still fairly firm. Perhaps I should dump my soaked gourds into a system now too & we can compare notes on their progress going forward :)
I love my Urban Worm Bag V2.0 But I know I'd live this Vermibag Lil Mammoth with the stand you built as well!!! It is fun to see how these ANC's ffed/eat differently than your mixes and red wigglers! They sure love their carbon!! Your puppy sure misses you when you do these videos😂Excellent video Ann!!🪱🪱🪱
No bag system. I have 4 bins Vermihut plus, 2 totes and a 5 gallon bucket. Started with worms to help my garden out. 😁It took awhile but the packing blanket is breaking down. I was wondering if you cut into the gourds. That bulked your bag up nicely.
Hello Ann. I’d appreciate your thoughts on my issue. I moved my worms in from the garden, into 2 Rubbermaid totes. One bin is going great, the other one the worms keep climbing to under the rim of the bin and congregate in the handles! They each get the same treatment of bedding and food. I don’t understand why one bin is behaving so different from the other ? Any thoughts? Thanks 😊
Is one in a hotter or colder area? If not try the smell test. See if one is generating any ammonia. They would cause them to crawl. Let me know how it goes.🪱😃👍🏼
@ they are beside each other under the stairs. They both smell perfect. So fresh and earthy. Lots of worms still in the soil, but lots crawling up 🤷🏼♀️
I’m about 9 months into vermicomposting. I started with a plastic tote. I had way too many food scraps for the one tote. I saw posts on facebook groups about CF systems. I didn’t know about Vermibag and ended up with an UWB. My only issue with it so far is that it doesn’t retain moisture well. The castings/bedding next to the material of the UWB dry out very quickly. I have to add moisture at least twice a week. I moved it inside from my deck when the weather started getting cooler. I’m thinking I’ll just leave it inside year round. Does the Vermibag retain moisture better than the UWB ( in your experience)?
The newer Vermi bags do better and even have inserts you can get for dry seasons. I have some of the same issues with it drying out. In the winter I am in there weekly adding a gallon of water. My issues with the UWB was the bad zipper and delamination of the material that flaked off plastic onto the castings. Yeah, patience is best. Until one system is over 6 months you really have to keep the feeding low volume. I hope all is well now.👍🏼🪱😃
I have never invested in the vermibag. I will just keep watching your great videos.
Thank you. 😃🪱👍🏼

Yes 100% they are heavy and need wheels. 🪱😃👍🏼
Hi Ann, I found gourds leave a really crunchy skin, but it eventually goes. I love the puppy chorus in the background! 🐾🐾

Good thing they're cute. Takes a lot of editing to get it down to just a few choruses 😃👍🏼🪱

I love it. We still see the pizza box
I know right? It is good Pizza yeah?!🪱😃👍🏼
I've thought about a bag system, but its a large footprint, and knowing myself, "putting all my eggs in a basket" is a really dangerous prospect
I agree, I would feel weird about only having one bin.👍🏼😃🪱
