      I know this is an old comment, but I just want to point out that Ocean very actively speaks out against "latent Christianity," where non-Christians continue to maintain Christian thinking anyway. Ocean is not abandoning his religious framework; his framework is just entirely different from Western Christian understandings of religion.
      Modern heathens are not bound to their gods in the same way fundamentalist christians are to theirs. Heathens have no problem saying "nope" if their gods ask something of them that they're uncomfortable with. Our gods do not dictate or demand. We deal with them as we choose, because it is a relationship of reciprocity, not hierarchy. Not all religions understand and interact with deity in the way christians do. Honestly, I think it's you who is applying Christian thinking to a pagan.
      It's also not a good argument to judge modern heathens by what we think vikings believed. We don't know for sure what they thought, and religion isn't stagnant anyway. It changes with time. Modern heathens have a different relationship with their religion than their predecessors, much like modern Christians have modern interpretations of Christianity.

    15:49 'trans women are women' isn't twisting 'empirical fact' in the view of those who agree with it... So for Vaush this question of Destiny's wouldn't really matter... The idea is that you have this idea of what a 'woman' is as sort of an umbrella term that describes a particular sort of way of being/identifying and then both cis women and trans women fall under that term as they exist/identify in that manner... Just like black women, white women, asian women, etc. also fall under the label of being a 'woman'... There's no set in stone empirical fact to be twisted here because there's no Bible equivalent that they believe in telling them how a woman must be... There's dictionaries, but not all of those will contradict them, they don't particularly NEED to agree with them quite like a Christian needs to agree with the Bible, and to call a dictionary of definition of women 'empirical fact' seems a bit absurd...
    How can you empirically demonstrate that a 'woman' must be female beyond just pointing to a dictionary that agrees with you? The other side that believes trans women are women can do the same with a definition more favorable to them (i.e. "a person with qualities traditionally associated with females"), and in addition they can point you to a trans woman fulfilling the characteristics their definition describes of a 'woman' which is far more verifiable/observable/experiential (y'know, 'empirical') than anything Destiny could really point to for his argument of empirical fact against the idea that 'trans women are women'...
    If it's fair to say that 'cis women are women', 'white women are women', and 'disabled women are women', then it seems fair to say that 'trans women are women'...
    IF a person IS just saying 'trans women are women because it makes society feel better' and that's their full argument though, then I will agree that that is a dumb argument since it's also kind of a strawman... Well I guess it wouldn't be a strawman if that seriously was their argument, but its so bad an argument that it might as well be lol...
    Also with the history aspect, people who win the wars don't always get the history they want... Plenty of countries have won wars and history remembers them as the bad guys who did the imperialism or whatever... Just because you get to try and write things favorably doesn't mean historians are going to believe it in the future... Like some guy wins a war and acts like they won in spite of incredible odds and historians will look at that and be like "In spite of what they are saying, we have evidence that the army they faced was far smaller than they are claiming." Heck, King Henry VII went to great lengths to try and change history, trying to make himself retroactively the King of England before the battle where he defeated King Richard III... And also Henry VII tried to destroy every single copy of some text related to the English monarchies' succession and he managed to destroy them all EXCEPT a single copy that survived not being discovered until after the Tudor era had ended... I mean, they might succeed in the short term, but I wouldn't say that's deciding history forever... We even found Richard III's body and learned that it wasn't as unusual as Tudor propagandists like Shakespeare would have you believe...

      It is a twisting empirical fact. Women are just female humans. Trans women are not. How do i prove that? Look at them. They're different. If you need a dictionary to tell the difference than youre mentally retarded. Which is fine. How you play with the words are irrelevant.
      Tran positions are closer to occultism and mysticism. There's an underlying thing, a mode of being, which is different from the empirical, that is, the physical. Because mysticism sounds bad trans advocates really have thought about it, nor have they thought about the metaphysical position they must fall into

    • @RealmRabbit
      @RealmRabbit Год назад

      @@crushinnihilism Good job proving the thing that everyone already knows, you're real clever... No one is saying that they are female, if they were then they wouldn't be a trans woman they would just be a cis woman... If anything, the opposite is being said, to argue otherwise would just seem to be imposing a strawman of a position on them just so you can easily tear it down as you did...
      Also there are many parts of one's identity that are different from the physical... If you identify as a nihilist or an executive, none of that could be derived by just looking at you... An executive might wear a suit just as a trans woman wears a dress though... They might identify as German even though you can't really tell them apart all that well from many other Europeans... The same with being Christian, a liberal, or atheist, neither of these identities are physical... Though honestly, gender might be more 'physical' than being an atheist in the sense that whereas atheism probably has little more physicality than the physics/biology going on in your brain, being a trans woman seems like it might correlate with having a brain that is physically built more akin to that of a female's than most males...
      Two questions I have for you would be these: Is it similar to mysticism/occultism to identify as an atheist? Secondly, would you concede your previous arguments if there WERE physical differences that could be observed in the brain of a trans woman?
      Anyway, even without the brain differences depending on which philosophy of the mind you subscribe to it is very likely that your argument isn't considering that gender stems from mental states and mental states stem from brain states and brain states stems from physical states, therefore, to some degree our minds ARE physical, just not in a way that is easily observable... But idk, maybe you're like Descartes and you think the mind is some sort of immaterial entity separate from the material brain... If that's the case, maybe you're the occult-like one...?
      Just a thought...

      While, again, i personally consider this mindset to contradict what i perceive as the most sensible interpretation, religion often soaks up positive cultural values while easily justifying these through an absolute mindset - a god-given truth.
      Or in short, it enables people to willingly "stay in line" easier, which can bring harm worst case, but it can also make people conform to accepted positive values through religious justification. And in due time more and more positive views will get included into the religion. Less extreme changes but less risk as well.

    It always boils down to utilitarian ethics for these people.
    And they never seem to self assess what these ideas are in utility of...

    • @Sanosukeafo
      @Sanosukeafo Год назад +2

      Well that's because you can at least come up with justified, logical positions grounded in the real world in regards to ethics from a utilitarian standpoint. What's the alterative? "My invisible sky daddy said X is bad so therefor it is"? If you don't justify your positions from a utilitarian perspective it just comes down to people arguing back and forth about feelings and superstition.

    people who critique religious atrocities often forget the intense entanglement of religion and politics throughout most of history. viewed from this perspective, human sacrifice has more political utilities than supernatural ones. even today the favour of priests and bishops can greatly enhance the esteem of a politician, and conducting a religious right can have very real non-tangible benefits very much aside from any hypothetical spiritual ones.
    also, people who believe human sacrifice to please the gods becomes IMMEDIATELY logical and moral as soon as the existence and will of the gods becomes clear are psychopaths. if the gods demand blood, then the gods are evil. simple.
