This week we finish the basic clay model for the body automotive design. Then we design and 3D print a very helpful tool to bend aluminum tubing. After that, we cut out our templates which will be used as a guide for fabricating the aluminum car body. Come along as Tony and Ryan problem-solve the complex engineering behind this project, and take jabs at each other all along the way!

German guy here - time for a German Lesson. The English word "light" has 2 meanings (as in weight and illumination). Whereas in German it is 2 separate words, Licht (Noun - as in Illumination) and leicht (Adjective, as in weight). So the term would be Superleicht (as in weight), not Superlicht (no such thing). Sorry couldn't resist 😉.

For cohesiveness one sculptor for that scale is the right approach. Not saying there can’t be input from others. • @mndlessdrwer

The most important thing about car design is to create something that has distinctive body lines and which can be identifiable in silhouette. The reason why so many classic cars are considered classics are because they have cohesive designs with body lines both within the panels of the car, like with shoulder creases, but which also use the hood and rear deck as body lines and the canopy as a continuation of these. I would suggest adding a crease to the door that begins at the nose of the car as a continuation of the front leading edge, fades out of existence at the front wheel arch swell, comes back afterward and becomes increasingly prominent at the door, then disappears into the rear fender swell before reappearing afterward to blend into the arch over the rear tail lights and the rear wing. By drawing this line at an angle you can make the car appear dynamic even when it is sitting still and smoothly join the front and rear designs together. Also, I would consider sharpening the crease on the rear of the car that divides the rear from the rear quarter, similarly to how the McLaren F1 has it. Also, if you're going to use that style of ducted radiator vent for your front heat exchangers, you'll probably want to move it back a bit to allow more space behind the crash structure to install a thick radiator, AC condenser, oil cooler, transmission cooler, etc. Also, that style of vent should be much deeper to allow more unimpeded airflow through your radiator and other heat exchangers. Personally, I'd also avoid the round headlight design and instead opt for stealing some headlights from a car with a similar front-end design that integrates better. Maybe steal the headlights from a Porsche 718 Cayman or something and mildly rework the front end design to accept them. Or, if you want to make the front end more pointed, consider stealing the headlights from a C7 Corvette.

Fantastic my friend. I am starting a RUclips channel eventually with a build of a Brooklands style combination 1928 Morgan 3 wheeler with 4 wheels called a special . I have been sourcing machines for my own machine shop so that I will be able to make any parts or tools as you are. I am casting my own tools and parts out of aluminum or aluminum bronze if super strength is needed. You can print your tools and then carve it out of styrofoam and then bury it in sand and pour molten metal into it to get an actual part or tool that will not break as easily as plastic. I would make one for you if you need . I am about a half hour from you guys.

The missed layers are from missed steps. as it is a dual z leadscrews are usually driven by the same driver, verify the lead crews are level side to side, sometimes they get very slightly out of level causing binding.also driver settings can be an issue. Little issues like this are the things that make you run your head into a wall with 3d printers. Bambu Labs? just works.

You could have also used AI to create many iterations until you found one to put into clay. It's can be very useful to discover thing you didn't know you might like. I know it seems it is random process with little control, but with stable diffusion implementations on various sites (I use Playground AI) you take a picture of the model and use the control trait features to detect the contour and depth of the car and generate with those constrains as closely or loosely as you like.
    Anyway awesome work.

Figured you'd use 3d scanner on that model, but honestly it is really lacking in details, and I've also noticed the Runge car bodies lack details too, it gives a certain look that is not oem like at all in my opinion. Forming a full size body in foam that you can shape I think is better, you can give fine details and then make a fiberglass mold from it.

But bravo, keep pronouncing it right until it becomes natural 👏🏾
