My brother died of a heroin overdose. Seeing him “dying slow” and with tombstones in his eyes was gut wrenching. He was found in an abandoned house with a needle sticking out of his arm. The only thing he had on him was a comb in his back pocket. My mother wailed when she found out about his death. These lyrics do hit home. Thanks for the video my brotha.

Great songs perfromed by Hoyt are "Lion In The Winter" and "Boney Fingers". Then also he wrote "Joy To the World" for Three Dog Night and the "No No Song" for Ringo Starr.

Outstanding reaction, Biz!! So cool to watch younger people discover this music, and to see how it touched your heart/soul. John Kay (singer and driving force behind Steppenwolf), as a child, escaped Soviet Occupied Germany after WWII. Listen to the song "Renegade" which tells the story. Like "Snow Blind Friend" it's a song that captures you and makes you feel as well as hear the fear and pain. As you've probably noticed there is a very present and heavy blues vibe to most of Steppenwolf's music. If you want to listen to something very different but very cool, try "Disappointment Number (Unknow).
Biz, since you seem to enjoy songs that are real, try "Aqualung" by Jethro Tull (live version to get the full affect). It's a social commentary on homelessness in the early 70's. The song tells the story of a derelict homeless old man. But it does so from two perspectives, that of the old man, and the other as he is perceived by society. It's a brilliant song. You won't be disappointed. I saw Tull live circa '73 when this album just came out. They absolutely tore the place down. Best concert I've ever been to. You'll understand when you see the video.
Biz, thank you so much for playing this. You hit the nail on the head about the diversity of sounds this band makes. Even in the outtro you can hear the drummer playing drum fills on his hihat! These guys were versatile. Great band.
