I love how now all the big camera brands have great performance for photography and videography in the consumer hybrid cameras, all somewhat different at different price points with different strengths and weakness. Today with a mid level camera you have a better tool than the best cameras 15 years ago.
Another great overview video. Somebody was complaining that R5C was a trash camera and hence lots moved away from it. I would say it gives out good image when compared to new cameras on the market right now. P.S: If you happen to get Atomos Ninja Ultra and pair it with R5C would definitely love to see how the footage handles itself there. Maybe it's an idea for your next video :)
I love my R5C. I think it has incredible image quality and I’ve owned quite a few cameras. The R3 may edge it out by a hair in overall video quality, but not in the resolution/detail category. Plus the R5C has so many options for recording formats especially when paired up with a Ninja V+ or Ultra.
@josh_sattin I love your comparisons. I am curious how you keep both cameras properly exposed when changing ISO's are you keeping them in auto shutter priority? (Something impossible on z8 in video mode :/ ) I was trying my own comparisons of z8 and a7iii and find that in similar scenario with similar shutter/aperture they require very different ISO's to stay properly exposed
I haven't compared them, but I would guess that the Z8 is cleaner in the middle ISO range with the A7S3/FX3 being better in the super high ISO range (12,800+).
I have tested the two! I plan to release a comparison. Josh is basically correct. Oddly I find the 8k h265 on the nikon better in low light than any other modes when pushed in post.
@@TheJakeCoughlin interestingly I found that in the same lighting settings exposing both cameras to +0 the 12800 on a7s3 was roughly the same as 6000 on nikon.
@@Josh_Sattin Thank you for teaching sir 🤍 I'm a self taught photographer & just very recently I started to learn about videography so I've got so much ahead of me!
A lot of colour noise on the Canon I like that Nikon moves all to luminance noise looks more filmic and if I. might says sometimes I don't mind a filmic look with a bit of noise. A camera has a soul and washing it out of the final output makes me sad.
Finally Nikon content. But I like all your videos.
Thanks for watching!
Same thought😂

you only need to go back like 5 years
Great work bud!
Thanks Cam!
Good video ! Keep those Nikons videos coming !! Peace !
Don't own a Nikon, but love the info Josh! This camera looks amazing coming from a sony guy ...

finally you are testing nikon cameras
Can you do a video of NIkon Z8 16bit Raw when recorded to external recorder? I’ve only heard it does that but no content on it! Thanks in advance!
I'm not sure about the Z8, but every other camera when you record raw to an external recorder, it usually records in a 12 bit raw codec.
@@Josh_Sattin there are no RAW over HDMI on the Nikon Z8/Z9 ( yet )
@@felixlgrobillard Thanks for the info! I hadn’t even checked since it records two flavors of raw internally.
More Nikon please!
I hope to test more Nikon gear, but I had to send my loaners back.
Can you color grade NRAW in the free version of Davinci Resolve and export in ProRes to edit in fcpx? Thanks
yep dual iso of 800 and 4ooo i believe, good video!
Awesome work. Greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!
Does not it seem that nikon does noise reduction even in nraw (it seems so a bit at least to me, because it is less sharp than canon)?
God I’d love the z8 sensor in a smaller body like Sony
I thought Sony makes Nikon sensors?

Thanks! I am manually setting all of exposure controls. When I change the ISO, I change the shutter speed accordingly.
Nikon did stellar, but an NLOG2 would be nice!
Is the R5 noticeably sharper or is it me?
What are your thoughts on the low light performance of the Z8 vs a Sony A7SIII/FX3?

What is an IRE Value
It's a measurement of brightness that goes from 0% (black) to 100% (white).

@@Zeta-Artists You're welcome. Thanks for checking out my videos!
Thank you about zebra 95 mid range tip :). Btw Nikons h265 is 420, while Canon i think is 422.
In the Z8, the 3840x2160 10-bit H.265 is 422 up to 60p.

That Z8 N-RAW footage looks terrible...the H265 looks amazing, crazy how good the low light is with so many megapixels shoved into the sensor.
Awesome & Thanks :)
If the R5C had Clog2 and better battery life it would be the perfect camera
