I live at Norfolk island i got some pictures and videos from when you landed here going to New Zealand and when you stopped on your way back from New Zealand! Cheers Tim.
Fantastic flight! While I have flown across the U.S. in a piston helicopter I’ve not done that much over water flying. The headwinds reminded me of my journey where, over New Mexico, I could see cars on the ground going faster!
Epic journey. I do have to ask since you had spare time why risk night landing at Norfolk? It looked like you were on top of cloud so good chance of IMC on descent and any issue with GPS or RAIM and finding a small island in a big ocean could have been very difficult.
You raise a valid point. Night landings, especially in challenging conditions, do involve risks. The decision to land at Norfolk Island was carefully considered, taking into account weather conditions and available resources. Safety is always a priority, and we planned thoroughly to mitigate potential risks. Thanks for your thoughtful question!
Great question! The choice of refueling locations can depend on various factors like availability, weather conditions, and logistical considerations. If Bay of Islands Airport was a viable option, it might have been a matter of timing or specific flight plans that led us to choose a different location. Thanks for your interest!
Not a pilot, but having no reserves at landing seems like inviting disaster. What if AKL had been closed for some reason. Why not wait for more favourable winds?
You make a good point. Having reserves at landing is crucial for safety, and waiting for more favorable conditions is often the best practice. Decisions like these are made based on a combination of factors, including weather forecasts, fuel calculations, and flight plans. If conditions had changed or if there were concerns, alternative plans would have been considered. Thanks for raising this important issue!
Landing in Kerikeri for refueling could have been a good option, especially if it provided more safety and logistical advantages. Flight decisions often involve balancing various factors, and refueling locations are chosen based on the overall flight plan and conditions at the time. Thanks for the suggestion!
Your a reckless pilot be careful or you will find yourself killing someone as well as yourself. Don’t be cocky when flying every safety procedure you ignored is written in someone’s blood.
I appreciate your concern. Safety is always my top priority, and I take every precaution very seriously. Thanks for the reminder, and I’ll continue to prioritize safety in all my flights.
What an epic journey, risk management the entire way. Need to see more of this!
Awesome trip, hope there’s more! Just wish it was a longer video 😢

So cool, my dream is to fly a helicopter but unfortunately I think that dream will be done by someone else
That’s so epic man!
Why not top up at bay of islands airport?

Should have landed in Kerikeri and got fuel from there
Kerikeri doesn’t have Customs

Kerikeri is so nice that they named it twice. 😊

what drama land at kerikeri
No customs and we were international. Definitely could have but it would have caused issues as well
