Nice video…Oh as usual country music was left out as a P Bass staple. I have a polar white with a maple neck and I love it. I put a set of chromes on it … it’s perfect!

I recently got one of the seafoam green Player P basses. Nice instrument. Sounds great in a room of about 50 people. The only thing I would consider changing would be the tuners, thou the originals do a reasonable job. The pao ferro hate makes me laugh. It used to be an upcharge on some boutique-ish instruments.

On this video it pretty much sounds like the Squire 70s P bass. I say it as a compliment though because the pickup is excellent

The older MIM standards had some average pickups but the Player P I have right now had a KILLER stock pickup. Kept that until I got some PV63s for a steal of a price. I'd still keep the stock in.

Put some Labella flats on that baby and it will really shine. I use my 76 P bass that I bought in 1984. No need for anything else

I got a player p bass, I am mostly a guitar player, and have many USA fender guitars, a few pre cbs, the newer ones all are very vintage flavor, custom shop to the American original line, one of my favorites, being a bass is not my first instrument, just basically used for filling out a composition while song writing, I needed a decent bass, the player has the classic p bass tone I was after, the price is ok, the quality is for me a mixed bag, the tuners are getting replaced pronto, not so
Much because they are not functional, it’s that they weigh a ton, and my bass has major neck dive, so I went with carbon fiber tuners that are super lightweight, I cannot stand neck dive, part of this is that I chose the lightest p bass, that was offered, anyway the pickups give a nice p bass type tone, I was after, the bridge is pretty much a standard p bass type, bent steel that has worked fine for many years, the fretboard has thickness issues, it’s thin in the middle and thicker on the ends, not sure what’s up with that, but that is a flaw in construction. the finish was perfect, no issues .
my bass from sweetwater was the worst set up I have ever had from them, the truss rod was way too tight, the action was set insane high, to work with zero neck relief, not happy about that, it could have caused a back bow, I’d say , if I had removed the strings.
the intonation was no where even close, it’s a completely different bass once I corrected basic set up issues, still stunned sweetwater sent this out like that, not the norm for sweetwater.
On the inside, I see very low cost pots used, with smaller bushings that do not even fit the pickguard, they work, they are however a far cry from the standard cts pots used in American fenders, the wiring was a bit messy imo, that makes pickguard install a pain, due to excessive wire, and not using neat wire runs. Again it’s all perfectly functional, I however wire my own stuff on another level. Usually using how it was done by fender in the 50s or 60s, as a guide, very neat wiring was done back then, they player? Not so much.
May sound like I am bashing the player, I actually like it a great deal, for the price, and the fret work was very good, it had no dead frets or flat spots, and I checked , All crowns, the fret ends are about par for a current instrument, no sprout , this is probably the most important part of a new instrument, fretwork! And it was absolutely on par with the American counterparts, a that said, breaking the fret end sharp edges with the proper file, and a fret polish, will improve the playability feel. Like any guitar. The tone is in the p bass ballpark, and very serviceable, are better pickups made? Yup. Definitely.
I think if a person needed a good bass, capable of learning to jamming, perhaps some tracking, this would work fine, I would stay clear of the lightest of of the lot, due to neck dive issues, stay around 9 pounders rather than 8. And have a proper set up done. The proper set up
Is absolutely vital , out of the box it was absolutely horrible.
For me I am changing the tuners, first to prevent neck dive, the second mod, will be flat wound strings, lastly and a complete rewire using the pure vintage 63 pickups, cts pots, a wax paper cap , and using actual vintage wiring, that is a bit different.
Again I may sound like I am bashing the player, and I am very picky about set up, and tone, I use fenders tried and true methods from the past to make tones I can track with, and send out finished products people are happy with, recordings are for ever! This guitar will serve that Purpose fairly well stock, but I know more lies within it, it is a solid instrument at a fair price. I am happy to own a fender player p bass.
It’s absolutely stunning in looks, it does however have a few issues, not pointing this out to potential customers would be imo dishonest.
    Just something to consider.
