I know it may sound wrong but I just went through the process. In Texas, they can begin a foreclosure on the 31 day late. They can send you a certified letter to let you know you home will be sold the 2nd Tuesday of the following month. It can be as little as 21 days. Texas is a non-litigation state so you can lose your home in less than 3 months in Texas. You can start a litigation on your behalf and by time but it can be expensive and you will probably loose in the end. I paid my mortgage up to date and avoided these issues, but it is the only state you can actually lose you home by missing one payment. This need to be changed and people need to know.
