Prequels have been such interesting stories that don't really get covered too often, where Disney should consider such films in their franchise focus. And yes I forgot about the direct to dvds sadly.

That's fine. I remember Ariel: A New Beginning, which is too childish.
I wish I could forget most of the DTDVD era. Mos of them were cash-grabs since theatrical Disney films weren't as successful during the 2000s and DTDVD films were still lucrative.

I for one have always loved and adored "The Lion King 1½" right after the original ever since i was a kid. Mainly because it delves deep into Timon and Pumbaa's part of the main story. Really refreshing and not to dramatic

It shows its respect to the original by not trying to be better than it and failing instead it went into a whole new direction and become a whole new great movie.
@edenwayne8407 it's the "Rosencrantz and Guilderstern are Dead" to the Lion King's Hamlet, which is a really nice touch. And Lion King 2 takes its cues from "Romeo and Juliet." Fingers crossed the Mufasa movie goes full "Titus Andronicus"
yeah, we are two, I also loved so much "The Lion King 1½", just like the original, when I was kid, especially because it goes deeper into Timon and Pumbaa, their story, not just for the jokes

A prequel for The Incredibles would have a lot of potential, but as a show. The origin of the Supers, How Mr Incredible and Elastigirl first met, seeing all the other Supers during the "good old days" etc.
For Zootopia, I would like to see a short (or a Zootopia+ episode) about Gazelle's backstory, her rise to stardom

The problem with a Frozen prequel about Agnarr and iduna is that it would have to cover a twenty-eight year arc, and that works best in a book.
I would really like a prequel to Agnar and Iduna, to explore more about them as protagonists and characters, that would be better than a sequel, but one that is well written
In theory, if they're well-written, prequels *could* work. But realistically, I don't think they *would* work current day, unless they were straight to streaming, like in the video/dvd era. Audiences are dying for more originality in the theaters, even something like Migration is gaining traction despite it being a fairly mid movie.
I wasn’t a fan of most of the direct to video sequels back then. Next thing I want to say is Migration was surprisingly good.
I think the only reason why I like monsters University because I was in college around that time and it kind of and it felt like college.. but they cut a dead monster University if they would have done the sequel first

My own personal Disney Headcanons
Pinocchio - I imagines Lampwick’s mother name to be Mirabella and her job is a seamstress explaining why he has better clothes compared to most other boys. She is motherly, religious, moral, strict, protective, concerned, hard-working, tough as nails, worrisome and wise. She was also bit of a rebel/flirt when she was a girl. Her likes are her son, Christianity, good behavior, being connected to the dead and honoring her country. Her dislikes are bad behavior, her son being missing, wars, criminals, people who don’t learn from their mistakes, gambling and her past girlhood’s mistakes.
Tiger Lilly - What if Captain Hook and his crew secretly killed Tiger Lilly’s mother who protected baby Tiger Lilly in hiding her in berries bushes and created a distraction by running away where her daughter was? The pirates arranged it to look like an animal attacked her which explained why Tiger Lilly’s dad and the rest of the Indians didn’t seek revenged when they went looking for them. The truth remains secret to this very day.
Aurora’s family - Yet I know it's true that visions are seldom all they seem But if I know you, I know what you'll do you'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream - Do you think Aurora is like Cassandra or Joseph King of Dreams? Her dream with her mystery man Philip did comes true. Also, do you think that Stefan and Leah pray to God or turned to some magical users for a miracle child?
Philip’s mother - Do you think that Maleficent or some kind of evil magical user killed Philip’s mom when he was a young kid? It could explains partly on why Philip is brutal to Maleficent. He doesn’t hates magic considering that he trusts the good fairies but that doesn’t mean he going to turn a blind eye to magical users who abused others with their magic. I imagines she was a sweet plumb jolly woman who similar to Hubert enjoyed fun but knew when to be serious when it was needed.
Belle’s sister - What if Belle really did had a younger sister named Clarice but she died young like their mother?
Moana’s brothers - What if Moana really did had several brothers who secretly went on a quest when she was very young but everybody assumes that they died which explain even more why Tui is paranoid about anybody going into the water (besides his childhood friend’s death).
A flashback is more interesting to me than a prequel, of course, it can be done badly as well..
But when it's really good, i feel immersed in the backstory of any specific characters.
For Moana, you got a flashback that explain why her father is traumatized, dedicating a whole prequel about it feel uncessary to me.
It was good for Monsters Inc, the movie was good, but at the same time, something was missing..
the prequel could work about how moana's father the chief used to be a sailor in his days.

a 2D animated TLK prequel focusing on Mufasa and Scar’s childhood, how they met Sarabi and Zira, Scar’s descent down the path of tyranny and his time as King of Pride Rock, and maybe even incorporating the Lion Guard
an Encanto prequel focusing on Pepa, Bruno and Julieta when they were kids

To be honest i enjoy when a story can throw us into the middle of a story rather than the start or end of it.
Avatar for example throws so many terms and definitions at you so soon but on rewatches it gets better as you know more
Hunter x hunter same thing with greed island where the game makes absolutely no sense first time around.
Monsters inc was that and while i do enjoy the university the story we got was a timeless classic.
For me there are Disney prequels or midquels that worked so well and sometimes I even like them a little more like the original movie, but just some like: The Lion King 1 1/2, Bambi II, Monster University and The Little Mermaid III; and I also think it would be better to have more well-written prequels instead of continuous continuations of the story, and also they still have some movies that would be good to imagine prequels to, one before.. And now that you're talking about the prequel "Mufasa the Lion King", I'm also somewhat concerned, and I hope they do it well, even though I would have liked it to be in 2D, in addition to being excited that it will be in some way connected to the present of Lion King II, with Kiara also, I'm nervous
Monsters University is the first Pixar film to use Hyperion Rendering.
Waternoose was originally going to be in the movie and was going to be voiced by Kelsey Grammer but sadly this was dropped at the last minute. Fungus, Celia, Needleman, and Smitty were rumored to appear as well.

Not really a fan of prequels in general unless they happen a LONG time before with different characters.
My sister and I really love monsters university, it ties in to the original monsters inc without destroying it, or straying too far from the original. It also amped up Mike’s character with the lesson in the movie. We all can sort of relate or agree to.
what gets me is that original films CAN work. wish came SO CLOSE to greatness, on SO MANY levels, its actually maddening when you get into it.
they werent brave enough to make a bold gen Z princess, they didnt let the songwriter see the movie and made her write blind, they used the FIRST DRAFTS of those songs, they cut out the best song of the movie for literally no reason…
this isnt even the first time executives have ruined real storytellers movies. frozen two was painful, but at least they had a good finished product for how hard disney worked them! its executives getting their greasy hands all over wish and frozen and whatever other movies, is what ruin them.
1) I didn’t think MU was as bad as some people say it was. 2) Zootopia Plus didn’t interest me much. 3) I’m not happy the Mufasa prequel is happening but I’m open to a prequel depending on what the franchise is.

Prequels in general usually aren't very good. Or at least come anywhere close to the quality of what they proceed. Across all media (books, movies, games, etc) I have a hard time coming up more than one or two that actually measure up
Here’s my overall thoughts about prequels: they can work but only with stories that can benefit from them, and they need to be done in a way as to not break continuity or else it causes the property it’s a prequel to fall apart continuity wise(unless there’s an in Universe explanation to this)
I think sequels should do what the equestria girls sequels do improve things from the first film both good bad and somewhere in between.

A prequel about Turbo slowing succumbing to ego and jealousy leading to the downfall of his reputation and TurboTime would be very interesting to add upon what that flashback from Fix it Felix showed.

There would be ideas that could work for prequels, just they would focus mostly in other characters.....like Moana can't go to adventures, but we have MAUI, what was his adventures that made him a legendary demi god? that could easily fill a movie, maybe Tamatoa could be the main villain, I'll pay for something like that, and that fill the ROCKS ego as well.............Tangled we could see an early adventure of Flynn Rider (Eugene), thanks to Tangled the series we could add a couple of support characters like Lance and Stalyan, how he became the almost famous thief Flynn Rider would be nice for a prequel film......hell if they actually HAD A BRAIN this could be a way to give films that didn't have a chance to get a second life....imagine a prequel to ATLANTIS, focus on Kida life in Atlantis with so many mythological artificial creatures in Atlantis, you can easily imagine an entire story before Milo and the crew arrived, same with Treasure Planet imagine an entire story of John Silver how he became that fearsome Cyborg Pirate, I would pay to see that in theaters......you might actually hit something, I just sadly can't trust the writers in Disney for do a prequel and not ended contradicting the entire original story, for every ROGUE ONE and ANDOR, you had an OBI WAN KENOBI, SOLO or the BOOK OF BOBA FETT, we need a change in that writing room before anything like this can happen.
I would go for a Maui spin off or Eugene. The latter especially as long as Lance is in it! Hes a big Teddy Bear. How about a Koda or Tug Spin Off
Hot Take: Monster University is a better movie than Monster Inc the lesson behind University is better where something like Mike No matter how hard you work or how badly you want it you would get because of challenges or the way you look or born and it didn't end on a down message I also think the message is that if you want something College is not the gate open for you to Achieve that if you want to be an animator Engineer Business manger or whatever

yeah prequels could work and lion king 1 1/2 works as well as ariel's beginning we need more pixar and disney sequels.
