15yrs in the industry and not once have i had a bad duramax oil cooler. You said its a common failure, the stats would disagree. And the pictures you posted look more like head gasket failure or water pump failures ive seen. But its great for a youtube comment to get people to buy product especially if you have a discount code. Ive personally had 5 duramaxes in my family, with 2 of them being mine, 2 lb7/2 lbz/l5p.
Put that banks filter on LLY Kodiak C 4500 makes a big difference. Truck run cooler but I use a Baldwin two micron I use Royal purple synthetic I just had a oil analysis done on the last oil change. The numbers came back excellent.
Did it before the Banks kit. Scoured the parts catalog with a friend. Built a Franken motor. LML block, front cover and oil pump, L5P oil cooler, LBZ heads and injection.
Another great video! Thank you for sharing the installation video. It's eye-opening just how much better the 2020+ Duramax oil cooler is than previous generations. The GM cooler included in the kit is the same as you'd find in a 2024 Duramax L5P.
I installed a banks oil cooler on my lml when I did my head gaskets. So much easier with the heads out of the way. I love the cooler. It does seem to help out on the road running hotshot. I also had the water pump out when I did it to replace the water pump
Installing this on an engine sitting on a pallet is a horse of a different color. With the engine on the truck (as would be for about 95% of us) it’s a major task. Gotta drop your front axle for access to the cooler for 4X4 trucks and the coolant pipe is tricky.
I did this on my LB7 after one of the seals blew out, left me stranded in MT. One thing to note, on my LB7 exhaust manifold, I had to shave a little material off the manifold for it to fit. No issues in over 2 years now..
I had dmaxestore install there larger oil cooler ( same as Banks cooler ) on my lb7. Put it to a test this weekend with my lance camper around 3000 lbs and 14 ft big-tex car hauler with 3 atvs , pulling the Sierra mountains. Oil temp on my cts monitor reach a high as 255 and that was with my foot in it. Hope this helps.
I have an LML and was thinking about the Banks oil pan upgrade for this. If I am dropping the front axle anyway, this might be a good time to upgrade this too.
I’ve got an lmm w/355k no issues yet but I’m doi preventative maintenance. & looked up Banks website and they said it there cooler doesn’t fit 2007.5-2010 because of some egr upgrade is this true if you’ve done the delete ? If so what direction do you go for these lmm’s . Thanks for the videos 👍👍
I just bought one of these for lbz. Didn't get it installed yet. I love amsoil but I will not buy their filters anymore. 2 out of 3 leaked. I don't think I've ever had other oil filters leak before.
My baby max runs hot as hell. When I am towing my travel trailer which weights in at 6400lbs it's not uncommon to see oil temps pushing 245 degrees. What worries me most is the thin oil specified for this engine. I would like to switch to 5W-30 for summer time but everyone says don't, maybe a better oil cooler for this engine might help too.
About to install one on my LB7 duramax. Can I just put the coolant elbow on the cooler before putting it on the engine? Or does it have to be installed after the cooler is installed?
does this oil cooler kit's filter boss still have the clearance for the larger diameter PPE oil filter? I have been using PPE 114000555 that shows 2001-2019 models. thanks for this video.
Hey man, I know you’re extremely busy, stuff happens all the time. I ordered a shirt and a flag decal. I didn’t receive the flag decal. I went to the website to see if there was a email. I couldn’t find anything so I figured I’d send a comment. Thanks man
I think I have coolant coming from the driverside head on the very back... is this something that can be fixed by tightening down the head bolts? It's only when under heavy load. Otherwise, it's pretty dry...
I had the same issue with my lb7 and it’s very common with the heat from the up pipe right at the back of the head. If you have stock head bolts I would not try tightening them, they’re a torque to yield bolt and they can fail if tightened again after heat cycling. I replaced my head gaskets with mahle grade c gaskets then did arp 2000 head studs. I also put heat shield pipe wrap on both up pipes.
@divelbiss36 I'll be doing the same thing... funny part is now, it only leaks when the truck is off and cools down. When it's running its dry as a bone.

lol mine just failed, that’s why I’m watching this video. 2007 LBZ 280,000 miles.
He's pushing it because he has an affiliate link, sure it probably fails rarely but I've never heard if it either. 360k on mine no problem.

Thanks for all the quality products you guys make for these diesels 🇺🇸👍

Nice 👍

I'd think adding an external additional cooler would make more sense if one is truly concerned about oil temps.
You made this job look way too easy. I have a banks kit on my truck. Man what a messy and PITA job. Glad I did it though.
Can you still run the cat filter adapter with this cooler?
wished there was an option for the 2.8
@Truck Master Garage So , what's the difference between Banks Cooler Upgrade Kit Vs. L5P OEM from the dealer?
Nothing other than the outsourced bolts that make up the Banks upgrade kits. It’s all there for you so you don’t have to get all the parts your self

Thanks! From my understanding you shouldn’t have a problem
@@truckmastergarage9944 ok.
Why is there not one offered for the LMMs? What is different between an LBZ and LMM in relation to the cooler that they are not offering one?
has anyone made this fit on an LMM yet?

@@ArmandoRodriguezJrmine started to do the same thing right before I did the head gaskets.
The 24 also?????
Just waiting for my cooler to go now... 757,000 miles and 19 years 🙄
Will this work for a 09 6.6
as of now not that i know of. Banks does not sell it for the LMM due to the cooling design for that engine. Im hoping makes it work so i can too
Why buy that kit when you can get a l5p oíl cooler 2017-19 direct bolt on
They dont have one for 07.5 to 10
Cost for the kit is ?$$$&
If you want to buy Banks Power Products Click Here bankspower.com/TRUCKMASTER
It seems like Duramaxs are just a money pit of problems. Running heavy equipment never seen this many problems
It’s not a banks oil cooler. It’s an oem L5p cooler for the 2020 plus years. Don’t make it sound like banks manufactured this 😂
That’s why you buy Ford 6.7 power stroke more reliable than Duramax
Every engine has its problems 6.7’s aren’t perfect either
