You're the 5th person to tell me about Foscam wireless issues in the past 2 weeks. I do not know what's the cause but I suspect a bad batch was sent out to customers.
I'm enjoying browsing your videos on the Foscam. I just purchased 2 of them along with the Blue Iris software. I'm looking forward to getting this all installed! Thanks for the great videos!
I needed a baby monitor and I purchased the foscam 8910w based on your videos and I am very happy with it. Great tutorial videos as well. I will be purchasing 2 more.
Entering your Wifi settings is fairly straight forward. If you have done it to other items in your home like smartphone or laptop, then all I can think of is if you typed in your password wrong. I think it was around 8:05 in the video that I described how I entered my Wifi settings. If I had entered the shared key or password wrong, I would have the same issue you just described. Another possibility is that you got a defective Foscam. This is very possible.
Hi AwkwardHamster, you are the man!! For some reason the camera wasn't working with the basic lan setting WPA -> TKIP fail. I took your suggestion and changed to WPA2 Personal, and made sure the foscam settings reflected the changes and it works!!!! Now I can continue with the other cameras! Thank you & happy new year!
Thanks for this. I just ordered two of them, to go with four other Foscam knockoffs already in place. The Foscam software is different so this demo is a big help. One note, North America is actually 60hz.
I first got 3 FI8918W Foscams. One was freeze every day. One couldn't focus right. And one was just right. The one that couldn't focus had to be manually adjusted by turning the focus ring by at the front of the lens. It's annoying but I don't know why that one had troubles but the other two could focus. For saving images, I suggesting using vitamin d. It's free for 1 cam and easy to use. On my iPhone & iPad, I use Live Cams Pro because I have many cams. Start with CamViewer because it's free.
If you have set wireless up for something like a PS3 or laptop, then I have no doubt you did it correctly for the Foscam. It's possible that you got a defective Foscam. Some of my viewers have told me they were having Wifi issues and had to send it back for a replacement.
Hi. The CD has IP Camera Tool and it's just used for initial setup. Even if you don't have the CD you can still set it up. I demonstrated this in my FI9821W setup video. You can view the Foscam using a web browser like Internet Explorer or Safari. I'm using a Mac 80% of the time and it works well on Safari (minus the audio and video recording). On the Mac, I use an app called IP Camera Viewer I got from the Mac App Store. It's easier than using a web browser.
Hi. Since you have experience setting up wireless, I am not sure where the issue lies. On Foscam, do you scan the wireless network and pick yours? Or do you manually enter the information? If you enter it manually, can you try scanning for it instead? Click the scan button twice before you select it. My friend uses WPA2 on his Verizon router. All his devices work but mine doesn't. I never figured out why. We just reset this router and re-enter the wireless info and it then worked for everyone.
Initially, the IP used by the camera is assigned by the router. I suggest changing it form being assigned by the router, DHCP, to you giving it a static IP. It just makes configuration and management easier.
What you're seeing is correct. That's just the way Foscam designed the WebUI. You'll only see the Cam1, 2, 3, if you use IE. All browsers allow you to take a snapshot. But, IE also allows you to record video clips. You can get around viewing multiple Cams by using third party apps. In the Mac App Store, there is IP Camera Viewer. This allows you to view many cameras at the same time. It is free. Hope this helps.
Many thanks for this video! So many others over complicate things, returned my first one Ip cam as gave up trying to connect to it from my smartphone, this one makes it clear! Fantastic job!
The output audio would work when you enable talk on the other end. Let's say you are accessing the Foscam using Internet Explorer. In the "For Visitor" section, you would press the Talk icon for camera #1. And as you talk, your voice would be projected out the speaker that's plugged into the Foscam.
That worked! I followed everything in the video up to unplugging the cable to put camera in wireless mode. The green light on the back blinks, but it can't connect to my router. The wireless light on my Belkin is normally blue but is now blinking orange - it will turn blue for 2 seconds and then back to orange. Then the camera times out and when I click on the IP Camera Tool to reopen I get the "Subnet not doesn't match" and have to reset the camera for 30 secs, erasing all my settings.
I bought my THIRD foscam FI8910WI, and finally got the chance to set it up today. Unfortunately, I ran into this same wireless issue, and it was pissing me off. ...considering I set up this camera identically to my other 2 cameras, this means my new camera was surely defective. ...then I looked more closely: On my third camera, I had it set up as "WPA Personal". Once I changed it to "WPA2 Personal" (just like my other 2 cameras), it finally worked.
I still haven't had a chance to try Blue Iris. A number of my subscribers asked about it but I just keep forgetting to look into it. Mainly because I don't have a need to setup a security surveillance type of environment for my child. You can connect to the Foscam using 3rd party viewing apps or using web browsers. On my iPhone, I use LiveCams Pro the most.
After you unplug it, try unplugging power cable from the router for 3 sec and plug it back in. When it boots back up, which is after the camera does a sweep of the room, see if it comes up on the IP Camera app.
Thanks for the great tutorial. I am thinking of buying one of these cameras. However, I don't have WiFi in my house. However, I do have high-speed internet and "Clear" is my service provider. I can still use this camera even without Wifi right? I would just have to connect the camera manually with a cord? Appreciate any help!
I don't have an particular app in mind but I suggest starting with any of the Free apps in Google Play or Amazon app store. You don't really need the pay apps unless you want to record or view multiple cameras at the same time.
Thanks for your videos - it's the only reason I was willing to buy and try. Is there any setting on the 8910 that would prevent blurring camera images in both light and dark? Also can’t get the foscam software to work in IE so that I can set a path for automatically uploading camera images to a folder. Any idea what the problem is? I’m using ie 9 and added my urls to trusted sites. Lastly, is there a foscam viewer that you recommend for iphone5 and iPad 2?
In the Foscam Administration page, there is a section called "Multi-Device Settings". You can add multiple Foscams on the same network here. This section only exists if you are use Internet Explorer.
You can use a dynamic DNS service. For example, check out NO-IP. They offer a free account for 1 host. In Foscam's DDNS Settings page, add your no-ip information here. When your internet IP changes, it will notify NO-IP and automatically update the host you created with them.
Hi. Aside from asking you to make sure you entered your wireless connection info correctly, the next suggestion would be to unplug the network cable, unplug the power cable, and plug in the power cable. Hopefully that power cycle will establish the wifi connection.
You make sense. I am aware of this but I have not tried it personally for a few reasons. I don't want to send money to just test this out. And most importantly, I don't know the reliability of these websites.
On some of the earlier firmwares, there was wifi issues. I would suggest double checking with the Foscam support website and make sure you are running the latest firmware.
Hi Trish Dickey. That's why I don't like using the motion alert that's built in to the Foscam. I would get a lot of false alarms, a lot. I'm just guessing here but double check to see that you enabled the motion alerts to also cover the time you come home from work.
Hi Trish Dickey. These are 2 different video recorders. Foscam's video recorder & 3rd party recorder like Blue Iris. The 3rd party has more features. FI8910W can send you images when motion is detected, but, for it to save video using Foscam's own software, I have to use IE. As for Blue Iris. I didn't use it because it costs $. I used vitamin d (I made a video demonstrating this) because it's free to use with 1 Foscam. Both are 3rd party applications & they are advertised to record video.
Hi. The menu changes if you use other web browsers, such as safari or chrome. I don't know how to enable talk through those browsers. As for Internet Explorer, every user account has access to the "For Visitor" section. Are you using IE?
Just wanted to thank you for the walk through.... i order two of these last week and they should arrive tomorrow. As many people may see, the reviews and forums all talk about the poor quality of the manufacturer software and instruction manual. Do you recommend the Blue Iris software? Does the manufacturer software allow you to connect to your cameras using tablet, phone, etc.? Or do you need blue iris to do that?
Basically, you need to be able to set up port forwarding rules on your router. Some of my viewers told me their ISP had them upgrade to a different router that unlocked that functionality. Since there are so many ISP in USA, results vary.
That's happened to me before. Though the camera tool makes setup easier, it's not the only method. On your wireless router, you should be able to find a list of connected devices. Look for one that you don't recognize, and most likely starts with "ip...". That IP will take you to the Foscam. You can copy, paste that IP into your browser to access it. I demonstrated this one one of my other videos. I think I called it setup without a CD.
It differs between web browsers. When I log in using push mode, it looks different than if I were to log in using the activeX login. What web browser are you using?
There are many factors to consider. Your internet provider may block it. Some ISP wants you to pay more or pay for upgraded equipment. It sounds like it could be blocked since your IP from whatismyip doesn't even take you to your router. Did you create the port forwarding rules on the router?
We have a daisy chain of wireless routers that work across a large property, if we are using these cameras on different networks, will we be able to access them all and put them all on the same view app?
Great video makes it very easy. The problem I have is that I want to be able to record now I signed up for that no-ip thing but don't know what to do. Is there any easier ways?
Wow. Another subscriber told me about this yesterday. For him, if the admin has a password he could only log in from a computer in his home network but not from any smart phone app or computer outside his network. So as a workaround, he specified a password for admin and created another user with blank password and gave it operator permissions. At least if someone figured out his username they couldn't change his Foscam settings.
Thanks for the vid bro it helped me out. I would rather have a three minute brush up video though. its been about 2 years since I hooked it up and I knew pretty much everything to do but was making sure there wasn't anything that I missed so I ended up skipping through a lot. but would be perfect for initial set up.
I might have missed it in the video or not, but does this foscam record video to your computer hard drive through the software?...Also does it detect motion and begin to record once motion is detected?
Hi Hamster, Thanks for all video that's very helpful for me first time user of Foscam FI8910W. My home network is using WPA2-PSK [AES], scan and set to Foscam are ok, but there is no wireless signal when I unplugged the cable. Are there something wrong along with foscam (defective?) I used all almost wireless products in my home without problem to setup wireless network but with this one it took me most a day to setup wireless setup. Foscam is compatible with WPA2-PSK [AES] setting????. Thanks
Yea, the record path would be confusing because it's controlled by ActiveX. Just as you figured out, if 3 computers use IE, Foscam will try to record on the 3 computers. I'm not sure what you mean by location. Like presets? I haven't tried that. Any config you do to one Foscam is unique to that Foscam. You configure it through the computer, that's it. If I wanted, I can manage all of my Foscams from my iPhone. It doesn't matter since I'll have to access the 3 Foscam web admin page separately
Hi. I'm not sure what key you're referring to. I know on my new Foscams, I enter the IP and I get a popup asking for my account log on information. The older Foscam firmware will first load a page for me to choose my viewing option. The newer firmware will first ask me to log in then bring me to my viewing options.
You mean to have the Foscam access the internet through the Android cell phone internet instead of home internet? I don't own an android phone but I would imagine that you would need to set the Android up as a wireless access point with port forwarding capability.
Hi. Wifi is one of those things that difficult for me to troubleshoot remotely. Mainly because if you have ever added the camera or any computer to the Wifi, I have no reason to think you did it incorrectly. Maybe just a type in the SSID or password. Other suggestion is to unplug the wifi router and Foscam for 5 min. Then plug in the wifi router, let it boot. Then plug in the Foscam and see if it now connects.
Hi. If both Foscam and PC are connected to the same router, then your setup is fine. But, even for myself, I noticed that the IP Camera tool doesn't find my Foscam address. So to get around it, I log into my router to see what IP it assigned to the Foscam. I put that IP into my web browser to connect directly to the Foscam.
Wireless issues are harder to troubleshoot because if you have ever added a computer to wifi, then there's no reason to think you don't know how to do it. What I would suggest is to make sure your wifi SSID name doesn't have a space in there. And, try turning off the power to the router then turning it on to see if it will see the Foscam after it reboots.
I need to reconfigure an outdoor, wireless PTZ Foscam on a replacement router. Can I plug my computer (via ethernet cable) directly into the IP camera or must I run the ethernet connection through the router and then to my computer? All your Foscam videos are really helpful. Thanks.
Hi. There isn't a quick response to your question. Foscam use to document how to connect computer directly to the camera. I haven't seen that documented in a while. Longer response is you can use a temporary router and move it closer the the camera for the setup. Or, a lot of android phones can also function has a mobile hotspot. Set that hotspot to have the same wireless name and password so you can still log into the camera and change the camera's connection info to connect to the new router.
Hi. You don't need a driver to view it on a computer. You just need a web browser. On the CD is a software called IP Camera tool that helps you find your Foscam on your home network. It's basically used for initial setup. Afterward, I don't use it anymore. If you need any of the tools, it's available on Foscam.us website.
What issue are you encountering? I saw a notification from Foscam today that a new Firmware was just released, v 1.1.1.12, and it's to address some wifi disconnect issues, security, and more.
Hi Trish Dickey. Did you configure your alert notifications based on my video, "How to Setup Foscam e-mail Notification & Motion Detection"? In the demo, I show how alerts can be turned on at only certain times of the day. It's not turned on for all times as default.
Hi sonyfxi. I can't tell if you're using WPA ore WPA2 for your Wifi security. You're video didn't show the security tap on your Linksys router. But in either case, I thought TKIP meant temporary key. If you're using WPA, can you try using WPA AES?
The camera doesn't need to upload to any website. It is a self contained unit that has a built in web server. It can connect to a DDNS website but that's not required, purely optional.
Thanks, my friend was helping me tonight, it seems to be working, I can view it on my iphone, let me try view the camera at my work computer tomorrow and update you. Another question, my friend told me to type in my cam ip on my iPhone, from there, I can view the image, what is the advantage to use the $5.99 Foscam surveillance pro apps?
This was perfect! I'm no expert at this but really wanted a few cameras in the house and the video that came with the cameras was not great for someone like me. One of the 2 cameras I bought together has a problem with the default user ID and password. When I start it up, it has the correct default entry but when I click ok, it beeps and says incorrect. I have tried to use the reset button but still can't correct this user id/password error....any suggestions? The other camera is working great!
Hi. To focus your image, rotate the lens dial. It's got a circular silver sticker on it and says something like .3 MP. I had to do that for one of my Foscams because it wouldn't focus either. If your color is off, then I was think you got a defective product and would need to exchange it.
How would you go about setting up 5 foscam cameras? Do they have the same ethernet plug, poweroutlet and audiosound in the back or is it just on one main camera? Thank you.
I haven't tried any of the Foscam outdoor cameras but I would personally get 2 Foscams if I wanted to cover 50 feet. Sure 1 camera can view the whole driveway but you won't see the details of an intruder standing over 25-30 feet.
My computer runs on windows 7 and I'm not sure if I have to do any changes in my windows firewall or just the att router, thank you very much for your time and have a happy new year.
Hi. If you are trying to run a server on your Windows 7 machine, you'll need to make changes to the Windows firewall. If you're just trying to open a port for the Foscam, then the changes are specific just for the router. For NVG510, you can open ports by logging into the administration page, go to Firewall, then NAT/Gaming. I doubt Foscam is preset on this router so you'll need to add it manually by going to Manage Custom Services.
Hi from Mexico and Gracias for uploading this video it helped me a lot! I used this video instead of the instructions that came on the package, very useful!, which app do you recommend for using this on my iPhone 5?
Hi. I haven't been able to get audio to work with VLC. Do you have Internet Explorer? With the ActiveX plugin installed, I was able to get audio to work on Internet Explorer.
I would recommend resetting your Foscam. That way, the username and password will go back to the default. The reset button is at the bottom of the Foscam. You'll need a paperclip or pen to press the button. Hold it down for 30 sec.
Thank you for your video! I originally set up my Foscam using your video and it worked great. I recently moved and the camera is no longer working. Do I need to go through the entire set up again?
Could it be saved on Drop Box for video ... so the computer can be off. Also what app do you recommend for this model. I have a samsung Galaxy ... I was thinking of buying their app but I wonder if someone else made a better one. Thanks... these videos are a big help.
You have been so helpful, I can't thank you enough. New problem! After my issues last night setting up Port Forwarding, I had to go back to factory settings on the camera and start again. Now, when I search for my Wireless, it doesn't come up with any. Nothing. Any thoughts? I've tried it no less than 10 times. I set the Device Mgmt back to factory settings to try again. Still nothing. I know its working as I'm on my cell phone right here.
+rjeffler After resetting the camera, if you plug the network cable to the camera can the IP camera tool find it? What about the router's device table list? It should at least appear here.
I'm thinking of using either these cameras or similar cameras for a very unique purpose. I plan on using them from varying locations to stream different events and control them from a central system. Do you think this would be possible?
Try resetting your Foscam to factory default settings. At the bottom, you'll see a small pinhole size button. Take a paperclip and press it for 30 seconds. Afterwards, try connecting to it again.
Hi, great vid! Helped alot. One issue I am having is that I cannot access the cameras from within my own wireless network. I can go to my phone and turn off wireless on my phone and go to my dns server from no-ip and i see the camera fine. But when I turn on my wireless network on my phone or if I go to my desktop and type in my no-ip address, i get an error. How do I fix this? Whats going on? Thanks
I have a quick question. For the alarm enabled picture upload, does the computer on which you install the software have to be on? Or if you set it up it does it on its own without the computer being on?
Hi cocobubble7. Did you mean port number? I specified the port number in Foscam's basic network setting. There are thousands of ports numbers to choose from and about 15 of them should be avoided. Those are pretty low numbers. Give 8091 a shot. I think you should double check how you configured port forwarding on your router. Home that helps!
Hi there. Thanks for the videos that you've done....it's really helped a lot. Im having a problem getting VItamin D to work with my camera. It wont connect but when I click on the " open in a browser, Im taken to the log in for Foscam then the active x thing and then the camera works in the browser. Is this what is stopping Vit D from working? I have a belkin router and think I have everything setup correctly.
Try using Chrome or Firefox and click on the bottom Login button for push servers. I try not to use Internet Explorer myself because I find the active x warnings annoying. Hope that helps.
plug the foscam to the router to access foscam's admin page to set up the wifi. afterward, you can unplug the foscam from the router and rely on the wifi.
I just installed my second Foscam painlessly thanks to your tutorial. Much thanks for taking the time to make this video for all of us!
glad to hear this helped.

It can output audio. There is an internal speaker but it's not that loud. You can plug an external speaker using the standard 3.5mm jack.
On some of the earlier firmwares, there was wifi issues. I would suggest double checking with the Foscam support website and make sure you are running the latest firmware.
Very easy to follow video. I will try it later today. Where is your video to set it up for the iphone 4 running ios4?

In my personal experience, 2 of the 4 Foscams I purchased had problems. If you are able to return it or exchange it, I would suggest doing so.
Thank for uploading these setup, guides and compering videos about foscam cams:)
thanks for the feedback
AwkwardHamster They are very useful for me. Keep review and make guide please. I Setup 2 foscam by viewing your videos. Thanks
I would rather have a three minute brush up video though. its been about 2 years since I hooked it up and I knew pretty much everything to do but was making sure there wasn't anything that I missed so I ended up skipping through a lot. but would be perfect for initial set up.
never mind. I fixed the issue. Not broadcasting my network was the issue.
thanks!
That happened to one of my Foscams. If you look at the Foscam with the lens facing you, you'll see a dial around the lens. You can turn it to focus.
What model is your Foscam? Are you running Windows on a physical machine or a virtual machine?
Thank you! I'm really glad I came across your videos because they are very helpful. I learned a ton.
Hi. If the reset button didn't help, then I think the next step I would suggest is to call Foscam support. I suspect the unit's defective.
Thank you.
Hi AH,
Just ordered 2 cameras from B&H, they should arrive in 2 days. Hopefully your excellent video will make it easy...I will let you know.
i hope so too
I haven't tried any of the Foscam outdoor cameras but I would personally get 2 Foscams if I wanted to cover 50 feet.
Excellent video, well done, clear, direct, well planned and produced. Thanks
thank you.
Great Tutorial. I'm having a problem with the foscam client application. I can't seem to add my camera. Have you used this
application?
huntermark1160 Client? Are you referring to Foscam viewer app on iOS or Android? On a computer I just use a web browser.
I haven't used that application.
Hi bigdawg1127. Are you having problems installing the IP Camera Tool from the CD or problems installing the ActiveX plugin in Internet Explorer?
You have been so helpful, I can't thank you enough. New problem! After my issues last night setting up Port Forwarding, I had to go back to factory settings on the camera and start again. Now, when I search for my Wireless, it doesn't come up with any. Nothing. Any thoughts? I've tried it no less than 10 times. I set the Device Mgmt back to factory settings to try again. Still nothing. I know its working as I'm on my cell phone right here.

After resetting the camera, if you plug the network cable to the camera can the IP camera tool find it?
What about the router's device table list? It should at least appear here.
Are you using IE? With older Foscams, like FI8910W, the audio only worked for me on IE.
I was able to figure out the problem. I needed to update my router and did the trick!
Great video. Easy for non tech person to understsnd. Cute kids, Thanks
Fred Dobbs thanks
When you launch the IP Camera Tool does the Foscam show up?
Are you returning or exchanging it?
Thanks
What model is your Foscam? Are you using Mac or PC? And what web browser are you using?
