I really have never seen a film get straight to the point so quickly and efficiently. I believe you ALL understood the assignment! Bravo 👏🏾 I was moved, I was angry about the scholarship and nobody giving a damn about how/why this student felt helpless and hopeless 😩 that’s reality for our Blackest students- no guidance from Academic counselor/ advisers, when his grades started slipping, where’s the tutor and someone that gives af! This film shows all that to the multitude that has experience not having enough resources to live. I was 😡 mad, I was frustrated and I was sad 😞 and I’m still wanting to change some things for the student.

The vulnerability of men, gay or straight, resonates from this short. When you feel your back is against the wall, you must submit to your needs and fears to survive another day's challenges. The abandonment from those who promised to protect him creates a lack of access and forces him to give up the one possession he has, his soul, in order to survive.

The film requires some interpretation. His scholarship, which he's about to lose because of poor grades, never covered all his expenses. To make ends meet, he's pursued the most lucrative profession that could leave him the most time to pursue his studies. He hustles. He sells his body to johns (customers) who can afford to pay more. In desperation, he's now returned to a john who seriously abused him. Or perhaps it was a full scholarship, and he was no longer hustling, but now that he's about to lose the scholarship, he's returning to a trade he had hoped to abandon. Either way, his situation looks resoundingly hopeless. At least in the short term. How he might pursue his education and a better life in the long term is another story-or film. This was beautifully and disturbingly executed. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your comments. Your thoughts on how we decided to tell this story is very thought provoking. I have been thinking a lot about your comment lately as I develop the film into a feature.

@@lamontlamar2473 Presumably, in a feature-length film, viewers will already know his situation when this scene, or one comparable, occurs. You have some interesting choices.
How will we know when the feature film is complete and the film and/or clips are available?

I thought the film quite well done. It sends an in-your-face challenge to the tired, over-used cliche that one always has a choice when the reality for many of us is there are times in real life when there are no choices which do not have painful, if not tragic consequences.

While I have no doubt that this sort of shit happens way too often, (to both buyers and sellers) I hate that this is, in any way, thought of as a "gay" film. It's a film about abuse...of power, of wealth, of weaker people, of the Internet, of poor people, of black people.

Why anyone would have anything positive to say about this film is beyond comprehension. Perhaps if it were more than this 12+ minute clip it might make sense. As it stands, it only makes sense to the filmmaker/writer. Title, "story", are all over the place. The main character gets a very raw deal ...OK, we get that, but his problems seem to be largely of his own making. And he seems headed for even worse ...most likely at his own hands.

If you expect lgbt audiences to view your films you need to do some sole searching into your internalized homophobia. The cliche of homosexuals being violent villains in films goes back vaudeville. Read Celluloid Closet by Vito Russo.
For the sake of realism when it comes to male prostitution there is no market for bottom boys. Almost all male prostitutes play the active role.

Put the blame on the victim...classic move 😑.
We don't know why the protagonist ended in this horrible situation. He seems estranged from his family but we don't know why. He fails his grades but we don't know why.
The only thing sure is the sexual abuse and trauma.
