    They needed to have protection barriers in front of the support structures. We have them in our area for our interstate bridges since we have barges going up and down the rivers. A barge took out I-40 bridge in Webbers Fall in 2002. Since this is major port why were there not any barriers in place.

    • @lordchaa1598

      Yes people have died, but you have to realize this is going to affect the income of over 100,000 people there. Many will be without work and prices will go up. With the port being closed it’s going to create ripples in the economy effecting millions in the long run. Average people will lose their homes, etc.

    So sad
    And scary
    People are crazy if they think that crew on the ship really wanted to hit that bridge. They obviously lost control long before they lost power.
    And radioed it in.
    But. Try stopping something that heavy after it's already moving in the water. All you can do is wait for it to stop or hit something to stop.
    That entire Crew probably feels even worse than us watching Thai tragedy
    Prayers to everyone and their families..
    I hope no families were traveling with their kids.. every time we travel back home we are driving all night long.
    Prayers to the construction workers on the bridge at that moment.
    I feel like that might be 2 that survived if they were out of their vehicles.
    Everyone else. The cars are electric and if your windows are up. U gotta have a window breaker or wait for the car to fill up to release pressure for the doors to open.

    The big failure is the design of the bridge base in the water. Again the Bridge was build back in 1977 so 46 years ago. Back than ships where not that size not even half the size. So what should had happened by Port and State is the upgrading of the securing of the main channel to ensure a head on collision would had hit diverters and not the foundation of the bridge itself.

    • @tooltimeterry
      @tooltimeterry Месяц назад +1

      Even the best of bridges built today aren’t designed to take that kind of impact. By its design if one support fails the whole bridge fails. A lot built today are designed so that if one support fails only the spans on either side fall and everything else stays intact.

And since it was an electrical issue, it most likely fall back on a manufacture if that manufacturer is overseas, those people are going to be depending on the government pay any kind of compensation.but imagine Boeing as a manufacture and families out for all of those plane crashes. Have you heard much about those? No? Probably be a drop in the bucket for those companies and their insurance companies.
