    • @dubcousteau

      Just keep the cutoff and resonance down (under 12 0´clock) - AMP EG on, Sustain off - The Decay should be at 3 o´clock and the CUTOFF EG INT at 10 o´clock - ad some filter LFO modulation and some external Delay of course - that should do the job. Then forget what I just said and play around :)

    The theme is nice, but there is static noise... Maybe is the quality of the cables or the mixer? I have the same issue when I try to maximize some inputs in my mixer, so I let the maximize levels down and just turn up the volumen.

    there is so much great music you can make with these little friends! .... how do you prevent the tracks playing volcas from consuming the internal poliphony of the electribe? I could only figure out by setting those track in Audio-in...but i am not even sure that the ES is not really counting those voices as played by the internal engine...

    • @dubcousteau
      @dubcousteau  5 лет назад +1

      The very limited polyphony of the electribe was one of the main reasons I sold it some time ago. In this case, the electribe only plays 2 internal tracks and 2 MIDI tracks - for the Volca Bass and Volca Keys. All the beats and some additional stuff came from the Volca Beats and Volca Sample only using the MIDI Clock for sync. FYI all simulations notes on the electribe count down the 24 polyphony. Problem is that modulation, internal-fx and master-fx consume voices too. I often hit the max using only 6 tracks :(

    • @paolopiergentili3839
      @paolopiergentili3839 5 лет назад

      @@dubcousteau well, at that price.... having said that, i looked for a "local-off" at Part level with no results though, not even in the manual :-) . i guessed that setting the Part in Audio-in was in any case much better than letting it play at "0" level. But then, i have no idea if it is counting those notes as actually played internally for Max Polyphony calculation

    Hard to find good stuff like this from ES2 and couple of volcas...great .... the only glitch is the high noise floor, it could be from a sample or high gain on one of the mix channels....again great tune!

      Dub Cousteau Totally agree, this is great work. I get quite a bit of noise from my system too. I find the volca need quite a bit of gain because the output is not very good.

      noise is good:)

    • @mrfeenix1
      @mrfeenix1 7 лет назад +1

      Think the Keys give off a lot of noise because of the delay circuit being where it is and even turned down you get noise . Another thing can be the power supply I use separate ones for each of my volcas now and put Noise Ferrite Core Filters on them. It really helps almost no noise. :)

    • @dubcousteau
      @dubcousteau  7 лет назад

      Mr Feenix I figured out the noise source is the xenyx, hurray for behringer

      The Volcas and the electribe are mixed with the Behringer Xenyx. The 2 aux sends are going in the FX unit and from there to one channel of the DDM4000, just to put more fx on top. The stereo out of the xenyx goes to another channel of the ddm 4000.

    • @dubcousteau
      @dubcousteau  5 лет назад +2

      Its just synced to minimize polyphony - I sold the electribe in the meantime - Limited polyphony was one of the reasons.

  • @ColinMcNutt
    @ColinMcNutt 7 лет назад

    Can you explain how you have your Midi routed? Are you using some sort of splitting box?

    • @dubcousteau
      @dubcousteau  7 лет назад +2

      Yeah, that was a little bit tricky. The MIDI signal from the 16 knob controller runs thru a patchblock (with MIDI in/out blocks) this does some mapping (e.g. controlling Channel 1-3 level of the Volca Sample). Then I merge the signal with the outcoming MIDI signal from the electribe using a Yamaha YMM2 MIDI merger. The YMM2 also splits the controller signal to the input of the electribe, because korg didnt build a MIDI thru function in this device :(. Then the merged output of YMM2 goes to a MIDI Solution Quadra thru splitter , so every Volca get its own MIDI. I hope this is explained intelligibly.

    • @ColinMcNutt
      @ColinMcNutt 7 лет назад

      Dub Cousteau terrific! I have been thinking about getting some sort of passive Midi splitter for my volcas, and I have an old Evolution UC-33e controller that I want to put back in use. Thanks for the info :)

    • @dubcousteau
      @dubcousteau  7 лет назад +1

      The splitter things are not really passive, without a external power supply their need power over the MIDI port and there are device without but the old evolution products should do it.

    • @Stratimus
      @Stratimus 7 лет назад +1

      Holy cow, grab a MIDI Express XT bud, you can set up presets and operate it in standalone mode. that setup sounds like a pain if you want to add or change anything

  • @hokumtribe1136
    @hokumtribe1136 7 лет назад +4

    Hey, set up sounds great, like what you dont need top notch gear to make it sound good. One Question, where are the patterns coming from? Also is your UC16 hooked to a computer?

    • @dubcousteau
      @dubcousteau  7 лет назад +3

      The Volca Beats and Volca Sample are playing internal sequences, mostly for drummings. Volca Keys and Volca Bass are sequenced via the electribe sampler, the electribe itself playing one chord sound. I used the UC16 to control volumes of the Volca Sample, no computers involved.

    • @hokumtribe1136
      @hokumtribe1136 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the reply. Ok great! can you map UC16 without computer? Sorry im not aware much of this piece of gear. Also do you set your midi on electribe directly or can you import midi with dsp?
      Thanks for shedding some light onto this. Im building my live rig slowly and looking around what i could get to transition from studio. Ive got some synths keys and controllers but more useful for studio than live, and are too big too

    • @dubcousteau
      @dubcousteau  7 лет назад +2

      Mapping the UC16 its pretty simple, just set channel and controller-number thats it. So far as I know you cant import Midifiles into the electribe. Hope that helps.

  • @pin.2hot

    Sick Jam! What kind and where did you get your big knobs for the volca's? Cheers!

  • @nathanhicks4311
    @nathanhicks4311 7 лет назад

    Dub, can I ask how you were able to sequence the Volca Sample with the Electribe? I've been trying to figure it out, but everywhere I look I keep hearing that each sample uses a different channel, which winds up making tracks sound like a complete mess, because the Sample is affected by multiple Parts. The only success I've had is just to sync it and make a sequence on the box itself to play along with. I've had no problem sequencing my Minilogue and Volca Bass with it however.

    • @dubcousteau
      @dubcousteau  7 лет назад

      Ye, different voices and fixed channels. I only used channel 14-16 of the electribe that they dont overlay the Volca sample. Both machines dont let you set the Midi channels of the tracks.

      I done some experiments with an old Yamaha MT100 cassette 4-tracker. But this was mostly trying to get the Volcas synced to prerecorded click track from tape, so I can record a session with more than one take. Here is a result of that:

    I wanted to like this, but you need to run the output through a low pass filter or something to get rid of the annoying hiss.
