Thanks for the great video! I was in the exact same situation, it had been left turned off for a few months, and I could only get to the te-boot screen. I left it charging overnight and no difference the next morning. I found your video and tried the firmware update. Note, I already had #243 firmware installed, and I just re-installed it - not only did it bring the OP-1 back to life but I still had all my data! No change since I last use it. So if someone sees this, it's possible it's not all lost if you didn't have a backup.
Awesome! That is a great tip, when I reset mine the first time I just went straight for the newest firmware, good to know that it's possible to potentially keep all of your data if you try using the same firmware!
I believe it might be something about the process of the latest firmware updates, or the firmware you're starting from and updating to. I also did this multiple times from an older to newer and then just latest over latest, and original data were never overwritten. Definitely good practice to always have a backup of the machine, luckily it's very simple and small.
you saved my butt from prying open the OP-1 and installing a new battery, for what!? a firmware update. glad i know this now. thank you thank you thank you.
Thank you very much. This bug happened to me after the first time I use my op1 as a midi controller with USB after 5 years... And all data and samples always in. You saved my Sunday.
I had to leave it charging for multiple days (using a 5v adapter) and honestly thought this would not work... couldn't even get to the COM firmware screen... but on the 3rd or 4th day this trick finally worked and I was able to upload the new firmware. Working!
Heck yeah! I know right? I couldn’t find anything online about how to get mine working again, so when I stumbled on this solution I had to share it! Glad it worked for you!
Yeah that sucks that it doesn’t really let you know clearly that you are going to lose everything, but then when it is in that state it’s basically impossible to back up anyway. It’s a shame but what a fun bit of kit! Glad it worked for you.
Awesome!I'm so glad that this seems to be working for many people, I also wasted a lot of time trying to figure this out, so frustrating when it's happening.
Hey Xiao, this was a great video. Have been looking to get some help with some issues I'm facing with the OP1. Was wondering if you could suggest what I could do? I haven't used the OP-1 in a while, but recently when I charged the OP-1 & started it, I have been facing issues I never experienced before. In the Synth Mode: the blue encoder doesn't select synth-engines, however, all 4 encoders allow me to select the patches in the green list. On pressing the Tape Key, it is directly getting into the Erase Tap function, without having pressed down the Shift key. And when playing the synth, the arrow keys allow me to bend the note, without having to press the Shift key with it. But the arrow keys don't seem to change octaves anymore, it is almost as if the Shift key is pressed down constantly. A similar issue with the Help key, pressing it takes me directly into the tools setting instead of it indicating how much battery I have left. I did, however, do the Factory Reset, but the problems haven't gone away. I'm sorry to be bugging you with these queries, but it's fairly difficult to get any help with the OP-1 in India. I came across your video and was wondering if you could suggest what I could do? Any kind of help or advice would be great. And thank you very much for the help in advance.
Hello! Hey yeah the OP-1 is a very cool but very quirky machine. Unfortunately I haven't had those issues with mine so I don't really know how to fix those exact problems. I will mess with it a bit though and if I figure out any fixes for those issues I'll let you know!
did this exact thing thank you....question tho, when i rebooted nothing was recreated like u FAT image or whatever that is. What is that and should i be worried?
Hi, I am from Russia, 3 months ago I bought op-1 with hands, 2021, the owner said that the latest firmware was installed, today there was a problem (I knew, when I bought it, on the first day I thought that TE do not have support and adequate price tags for spare parts) My disk does not work, no cable works, I have 2 of them, through the phone I used to be able to rename the samples (cool TE, to me to rename the seml, I need a ComP or a third-party gadget, well done, they came up with it well) Well, I think what, I tried 2 phones, psp connects via cables and to the phone and to the computer, well, with a buzz I think ... Charge this goes to work jacks. It's a shame that I used the connectors very carefully. In general, I clicked on format op-1 and how do I update it? If it doesn't work usb? The warranty is essentially valid, but we...
Don’t know if this is relevant. You should have mentioned the “Firmware Update” number. Some people like me to know this. In some RUclips videos it suggests this and that and one goes looking how to do this running old FW.
I agree, it's a fun little machine, but it is so quirky that it's unfortunately a bit unreliable sometimes. So it's more of a musical toy for me. I lost all of the samples that I had on it the first time it happened. I still like it a lot, but I know what I can use it for.
man I was literally about to buy a new battery and came across your video and that's all it needed! You're a legend thanks man
That’s awesome, so glad it helped! Yeah it can be super frustrating when something this expensive appears to just die.
Thank you dude, I nearly had a panic attack.. this isn't the kind of cost I can afford to sink fr 🙏🏻
Glad it helped! I was panicked at first too

MY OP1 IS BACK! Thanks! I wish I had found this sooner.
Heck yeah! I know right? I couldn’t find anything online about how to get mine working again, so when I stumbled on this solution I had to share it! Glad it worked for you!
@Xiao Kris I had my op1 charging for like a week, useless.... God bless you
Thank you! I was super bummed about my OP-1 with this same issue. TE was no help so I'm so glad this worked.
This fixed the issue for me. Thank you man!
Awesome! So glad this worked for you too. It was a major pain for me for months. This seems to work for me every time now.
Had the same thing happen to me after I let it sit for a month or two. This fixed it for me. Thank you!
Great! So glad it worked for you. I was super nervous when it wouldn't turn on the first time.
Yo, this was such a life saver! Much appreciation man!
My pleasure! Glad it worked for you too
Thanks a lot 🎉!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Next time, maybe say it will erase everything before we follow the steps... lost everything, but gained an OP-1!!!!
Yeah that sucks that it doesn’t really let you know clearly that you are going to lose everything, but then when it is in that state it’s basically impossible to back up anyway. It’s a shame but what a fun bit of kit! Glad it worked for you.
It’s hard to remember to back it up when it’s working fine 😂
THANK YOU!
My pleasure! Glad it worked!
Thank you for this video! Big help. In the same situation and this worked.
Fantastic! The OP-1 is a quirky device, glad you got it working again. Somehow the quirky-ness can add to its charm though haha.
Well, it still works in 2024. Thank you 🙏🏻
Awesome Tip. It’s working again. Much appreciated!
Thank you so much. Thought my OP1 was bricked for the last few years
Great! Glad it worked for you, I thought mine was dead for sure too.
Another OP-1 saved, thanks!
1:07 this doesn't work for me. The screen won't turn on no matter what I do. I literally opened it up for the first time half an hour ago.
and so today you have found the solution, I am in the same case as you, after several attempts to charge the battery, I remain on a black screen
@@manecze What worked for me was to turn it off all the way and leave it to charge for 24 hours. Since doing that it's worked without a problem.
@@jack_evoniuk do you still have the issues? Mine is charging however when i unplug the usb cable it won’t turn on :/
hey! that happens to me too.... one question, do you do that even if it's the same firmware your currently using??
Hey yeah, it works even if you are just installing the same version of the firmware that's already on the Op-1.
Worked for me. Thank you kindly!!
First time this happend to my unit, I did not know what to do so I send it to a shop. Oof!
worked for me, thank you! I was panicked!
Awesome!
THANK YOU! 🙏
No problem! Hope it helped!
thanks for the tip! I had a similar issue before
Glad it helped!
Thanks a lot for this man, it fixed mine right away. You saved me a lot of time 🙌
Awesome!I'm so glad that this seems to be working for many people, I also wasted a lot of time trying to figure this out, so frustrating when it's happening.

Just updated to #246. All the samples and tracks I had before the update are still there after the update
Hey i dont hear the sound when i turn on the op 1 what this mean?
You heroe!!!
For some reason my one, even though shows fully charge, my screen won’t turn on. No matter what I do :(
Haven’t touched mine in a few months and it cannot even load the teboot screen
how did you resolve it?

just to say that IS a super drag. I use the op-1 to work a lot but many times I just can't rely on it :((
