    Honestly the anxiety around the job situation is so relatable and I’ve been stuck in the same thought loop before. It might help to try and think less in terms of absolutes-you can always change your mind! Take a job, leave, find a part time job, try something new with your content-as long as you are following what is right you in the moment, it’ll work out. The only bad decision you can make is letting someone else make a decision for you. 💛

    • @AbbyAsselin
      @AbbyAsselin  5 месяцев назад +2

      YESSS trying so hard to remind myself of that!! I naturally think in absolutes a LOT so it’s a hard habit for me to unlearn but seeing someone else remind me of it will help me catch it more. And that last sentence is EVERYTHING, couldn’t agree more 🩷 thank you

    Volunteer! Yes! That kept me sane in my job search. I volunteered at my local botanical garden and a bird/wildlife preserve. It gave me structure to my week and contact with other like minded, environmentally passionate humans 🙂 my job is in nonprofit marketing now, in an unrelated field, but it cemented my desire to work with nonprofits!

    Abby, I just want to say that as a LONG term subscriber (freshman in college days) and someone who heavily relates to your thought patterns / anxiety - there will always be “what ifs” and there will always be pros and cons of any job. You have said many times that you want to have a season of life where you just exist, do what feels right, and live in the present. I think this is your ideal opportunity to do that. I am a small business owner and trying to find my place on social media as well, and I do work a very part time in person running my business, so I am in a similar season of life as you trying to do something unconventional and I also struggle with the unknowns of the future. Something I have been working on, and that I think would be good for you, is to pray about and do what feels right for this moment/season of life. Don’t think as much about what will happen long term or if you can do what you’re doing now forever (Within reason, obviously as adults we have to look into the future and ensure we will have our needs met and be stable, but I mean in terms of the exact logistics of things). You can always pivot and make a change. Don’t be afraid to let yourself explore this!

    • @AbbyAsselin
      @AbbyAsselin  5 месяцев назад +1

      “Don’t be afraid to let yourself explore this” needed that 🥹😭 sending you all the love & encouragement as you navigate this uncertain but (I’m hoping) rewarding time! I am so used to having a “next thing” lined up so I’m really trying to unlearn that it’s a “necessity” when it’s not!

    Hey Abby! I'm definitely not qualified to give advice (I'm still in college) but I just wanted to say that I love your content! I've listened to every podcast episode and still watch old videos of yours. Something you said in an episode still sticks out to me "just because it's manageable doesn't mean it's sustainable." If you feel like your mental heath is at risk, you don't need to keep "giving it a shot" there is always the option to go back to content creation full time, but you need to do what is sustainable for you and your well being. You are such a light on the internet and I don't want to see your light dim for the sake of others. Do what makes you happy!

      Thank you so much for the support & for that reminder!! I def think I get so in my head when I don’t keep myself as busy because i (for some reason) equate not being productive to failure which makes me think of all the other things I could/should be doing instead. Abby thank you for talking about your job search and being vulnerable. I think it's natural to want to find jobs/opportunities that are "fulfilling". I feel like I am a lot like you when it comes to how you think and how it affects you mentally. One of my friends told me that I plan too far into the future (I think it's anxiety), and that kind of relates to how you were talking about the 2 jobs and potential interviews. I am also on the job hunt after graduating with my bachelors. It's been a little over a year, and no luck. I'm currently working a minimum wage job to pay bills and have made the decision to get my masters. I hope this leads me in the direction I want, and I have better opportunities. Your RUclips and podcast has helped me a lot with post grad life.

      @@claudiavasquez1368 yes! You have to let them heat up first until a drop of water beads on it! As long as what you are putting on the pan can create its own liquid it won’t stick. The only things we have to use nonstick spray or butter/olive oil for are eggs, pancakes, etc.! The ones we have are made in the US and have a lifetime warranty on them too! People have literally had these pots and pans for 40 years and will still rave about them. They do have a learning curve but they are amazing once you get the hang of it!

    I spent months doing research before upgrading our pots and pans a few years back and ultimately ended up getting a set from the brand Circulon online at Costco. They're hard anodized non-stick. It's been almost 3 yrs and I have zero complaints about any of them! The review that really sold me was an older woman saying she had her first set of Circulon for 25 yrs and repurchased them again knowing this set would probably last longer than her 🤣💀

    You know what? I think one can only benefit from applying to different jobs and maybe working in different fields. This idea that you have to stay in your field or job for 40 years is outdated. But I am saying this as someone who works in a profession (teaching) which is meant to be your end-all 😂 I feel like if I was in a 9-5 field I’d like to be explore different options and maybe even abroad! I’ll try to find a position at a German school abroad but I do sometimes mourn the missing opportunities in this field. But at the same time I’m VERY secure (no possible job loss, well paid, fixed pension). There’s pros and cons to everything. Sometimes I wish you could just have everything 😂😂
    Good luck on any future job interviews!!! I hated those omg

I started working for a top-ten accounting firm in audit at the same time you started and I left in September 2023. I have been actively applying and interviewing ever since with no luck unfortunately. The job market for accounting right now is extremely competitive so I have applied to everything that I could possibly qualify for and that I would potentially enjoy. Sorry this is long but I’d say go with what your gut and heart are telling you than your brain. Your brain will put you easily into the spiral that you seem to be in right now. It’s ok to take chances because any decision that you make will lead you to a different and maybe even better position.
    I think if you view creating content as a creative outlet rather than a monetized one, then go with your heart!
    I love you being honest with us and authentic because literally this time last year I was in the same boat. It took some reflection and time to forgive myself in feeling guilty in my decision but I feel blessed for where I am now. your happiness and everyday life is the most important thing.

Also, not to put words in your mouth but when you mention the realities of content creating it sometime looks like you feel guilty for voicing your thoughts since you are so grateful for having this as an option- if that’s the case please relax about it and don’t feel guilty for being honest!
