The small details of this video show an impressive amount of research. However, the Avar conquests look much larger than they actually were. Am I to accept Heraclius could muster a 25000 strong army with the scattered remnants of 620 while still enough to garrison each remnant?
I agree with you, I think that the Sassanids and the Byzantines should have made peace or at least an alliance in order to completely capture the Arabian Peninsula and prevent the emergence of the caliphate and Islam, then the Persians would have captured Central Asia and there would have been neither Seljuks nor the Ottoman Empire.

@@HurricaneHunter03 Oh I was referring to the huge bulk of land above the Eastern Roman Empire in Carpathia, i was not aware they controlled all of that
Didn't Persia control Sogdian cities of Chach and Samarkand (modern day eastern Uzbekistan) After victory against Göktürks in 589? And did they actually go that far in Libya? Sharbaraz actually held Egypt until Heraclius helped him to throne in 630. And Jewish revolt was against romans, not persians.
Sogdians have played key roles in iranian history. Not only were they the last brave warriors to defend the empire against Alexander, but it is also through them that persian culture flourished in the eastern lands.
@@hisholiness4537 Correct. Sogdians and Bactrians are strongly related to Tajiks ect. Iranians of the east. Also Khwarazmians were important in Iranian history. Alexander of Macedon didn't even try to conquer them. Central asia is one of the most interesting regions in history, and they're way too underrated.

What a comeback! Héraclius is such a tragic hero
he's not he's overrated
These futile wars destroyed two empires. I wish they never fought.

This was such an useless war if you look at what happened afterwards

Awesome job! But were the Lombardians really that large?
Yup! They had huge swathes of northern and parts of central and southern Italy after Justinian's conquests

The land in carpathia you mean is the avars because at one point the avars are in the same color as the lombards

Who is Eleurito? I can't find any sources on him. 2:34
Eleutherius was the Exarch of Ravenna (i.e. Byzantine Italy) from 616-619; he tried to usurp power, but was killed by a band of soldiers at Luceoli.
