Here is our 2018 submission "Outside by the River"
"As soon as Jean Phillip finished his studies he wasted no time and moved to Gaspésie with his family to pursue his dream of becoming a fly-fishing guide. He embarked on a quest in trying to understand how to catch the one and only Atlantic Salmon, a fish which comes back from a long journey to its home river to spawn. Today, the Atlantic Salmon has become much more than a fish he enjoys to catch - it has become his life!"

Sometimes I start to feel silly about the fact that I basically live for fishing, but watching these kinds of videos lets me know I'm not the only one.

Simply fantastic! My life has revolved around fly fishing since childhood- it’s a spiritual endeavor that connects me with all things when fly, water, rod, line, and fish unite. That same bliss was captured in this wonderful film. Well done!
One of my sons found that same connection in his life. Trout move us from season to season. Now at 58 with fading strength I’m in the waning years of this lifestyle. I’ll continue to fish until my last breath, but the number of days on the water dwindle from year to year as mortality runs its course.
Life is backwards in some regard. With family comes many responsibilities that sometimes keep us from the things we love most. My son is usually too busy these days with his precious family for us to fish together like we used to. He fishes when he can and I do the same and occasionally our paths cross at the waters edge. I miss the times of weekly adventures chasing big trout.
Seeing friends embrace in the joy that comes from this way of life was a lift to my soul. Another friend disclosed his diagnosis of cancer today. We were both left speechless. We’ve each faced that before with our wives. His survived. Mine did not. We’re planning a trip to help reach the goal of finally landing that elusive 30” + Brown trout from our local public waters. Those are the rules of our game.
The goals for all the other trout were realized over the years, but this one remains unfulfilled. I saw a truly massive brown on a home Stillwater a few years ago. It’s length exceeded 36” and its weight was over 20 lbs. It followed me on my kick-boat, swimming so close I could have netted it- That was one of those spiritual encounters on water that only the fly fisherman understands- I sat my rod down and observed with the eyes of a child.
There is something special about ones’s home waters and setting goals that take a lifetime of fishing and research to accomplish. My friend with cancer recently created a world-class replica of my best rainbow trout. It was caught and released nearly 20 years ago. I finally submitted to the fact that record will not be broken. It was time to honor that great fish and unforgettable memory.
The clock is ticking on so many fronts. This life of fly fishing is too precious a thing to squander. It must be seized whenever possible. One day without realizing it, the time will have passed and you’re no longer physically able to walk the old favorite stretches of water or to challenge the bigger fish you once chased in your dreams.
My warmest congratulations go to the filmmaker. My youngest son found his bliss in making films. We keep talking about making a film like this. I’ll show this remarkable footage to him and start planning our production before the hourglass renders it too late.

Beautiful. I love the subtle differences that you have compared to us in the US like the classic canoe and solitude on the water. I have caught land locked Atlantic salmon in OR, but never a real one. I may have to come visit your gorgeous piece of paradise one day.
