What's amazing is that this band usually goes beyond the original version when they got live.
I know I am quite off topic but do anybody know of a good site to watch newly released movies online ?
@Devin Amari flixportal
@Orlando Idris thank you, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it!
@Devin Amari happy to help :D
You watched the censored version, there is an uncensored version with english subtitles. You should check out Dir En grey live, maybe Vinushka? ;-) (from the channel kaya).
Oh wow, this is CENSORED? I'm almost afraid to watch the uncensored version haha. I'll check it out though, and the live one as well. Dir En Grey rocks!
@@MattFarkas If you check out Vinushka live, I'd recommend this particular version ruclips.net/video/BVhAVHcu-r0/видео.html for the best performance
@@MattFarkas You can always tell it's an edited Dir en Grey video when they do the annoying tiny box thing where the entire scene is blacked out except for a small box. They've been using that technique for censoring stuff out for years. If I remember correctly, they do the same thing on the edited versions of Obscure, Agitated Screams of Maggots and (I think) Different Sense.
The stuff they edited out of Vinushka was mostly old black-and-white footage of "hibakusha", folks who managed to survive the initial atomic blasts.
@@MattFarkas seconding the recommendation for the live version immortalis_ posted. it's a *whole* other experience.
that is NOT BLOOD RAIN. Actually, that is black rain. The "black rain" that fell after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki has been generally believed to contain radioactive materials. During 1949-1961 the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission conducted surveys that included a query about exposure to the rain that fell a short time after the bombings.
Not blood rain.
Okay, gruesome explanation on the way:
The video projects images referring to the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It starts with several shots previous to august 6th when the bomb was dropped in Hiroshima. The bomb was dropped over a bridge area were two schools were located, that day the students and teachers were working on the city as a social service to the nation, cleaning the roads. When the bombs were dropped first the explotion happened above the city and produced the effect of a heat wave that was extremely hot and lasted 6 seconds, instantly burning to dead a lot of the people who was on the area, some even turned into ashes, no remains left.
As the heat was extreme and most of them were burnt, people in Hiroshima ran to the river in an attempt to stop the fire, however as they were hundreds, some even died as other stomp on them and drowned. They were thristy and after the bomb explote acid black rain poured over the city, a lot of them tried drinking it in an attempt to save themselves but it was radioactive and further damaged them. You can see that there are several references to water, in Hiroshima in the peace memorial there is a fountain with the legend that it will not cease never to produce water for those who died of thrist. Fire and radiation burnt skin and buildings to the point of not recognition.
The aftermath wich is also depicted, was terrible, survivors reacted to radiation getting sick, deformed, losing their movility, eyes, organs stop working... You named it, generations after, there are still people who was born affected by it.
The series of drawings that you saw are part of a collection draw by survivors of how they saw and lived the tragedy. There were corpses and parts of them on the river for weeks after the bomb. So the video is depicting all of this.
It is difficult for even Japanese to understand the lyrics of this song. The lyrics makes no direct reference to WW2, and describes about a man who has committed a crime.
Btw, I think Dir En Grey LIVE exceeds this prerecorded music video. Especially ANDROGYNOUS LIVE version:
A live Dir En Grey video seems like a must-watch for me. Thanks for the comment!
I always interpreted this song as a criticism of humanity and our tendency to follow hypocrites into wars for self serving ideologies that has nothing to do with the common folks, who ends up paying the price with their lives.
"Conspiring people who clap their hands together
The self-indulged ideology blends together to hurt others" this line also made me think about how the greatest, deadliest invention of mankind came as a result of people working together out of fear/insecurity for survival against other human instead of some noble peaceful cause. Idk how to explain it properly but i think the perspective is from a victim, not as any nationality but as a human and their emotions in that few seconds between the bright light from the bomb till their death.
@@omr4745 Seems like a solid interpretation of the lyrics from what I've read. Very sad, and yet very true.
Honestly I have to disagree. Until he's mastered a song down to muscle memory, Kyo is tone-deaf during live performance. I've seen them live twice and they were promoting Dum Spiro Spero twice. Both times, Kyo's vocals on multiple newer songs were not so great. The rest of them are fine lol
@@MattFarkas
Honestly please dont lol they got booed off the stage in thr US because of Kyo's poor live performance during the Family Values tour, just for some perspective.
Check out their song "Kiri to Mayu 2012" I implore you.
Hello and thank you so much for choosing Dir En Grey for a reaction! It was a pleasure! Welcome on board!🙏🏻
Vinushka is really dark and that word basically characterizes their music in general. Kyo (the lead singer) writes all the poetry and the main themes of his work are the darkest experiences and emotions that people live through such as grief, pain, suicide, abortion and a lot of others. As you've mentioned his lyrics are really vague and actually nobody knows the exact meaning except himself and you have a total freedom of finding your own value in his songs. I think that's the magic of this band. Everyone can find themselves in their music. And I highly recommend you checking out their live performances because MVs don't give you such energy as a live version. They are masters of creating a show, so I guarantee you a whole unforgettable journey
As for Vinushka it is one of my favorite songs and I truly believe that it's one of the masterpieces of modern metal. You've watched a censored version and that's why there were these squares and the black screen. "Vinushka" means "Guilt" in diminutive form in Russian and as a native speaker I can say that we don't use such word anymore and I am not even sure if it's a real one. Although it sounds very old and most likely I would see it in the old folklore. They used the real footage of victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings (these shots were censored in that MV version). And you are absolutely right that this is connected to WWII. But I would like to mention that I think that it's just a great example that they used to illustrate the broader meaning. For me Vinushka is about who or what can be called evil and is it evil in reality. Why do we claim something as right or wrong? How do we define it? What is truth and where it lies? Appearances can be deceptive so what if we are all wrong? Can it be a justification of our actions? What will be left afterwards? It is quite interesting that there are two heavy parts and the "aftermath" like after the bombings. Once I saw a comment with an interesting theory that these lyrics can be about a person that is sentenced to death. That seemed very creative to me and that's a great proof that everyone can find a unique meaning in Kyo's poetry. If you have time I highly recommend you checking out a live performance of that song (ruclips.net/video/BVhAVHcu-r0/видео.html) with English subs. It is a very emotional one but it amazes me no matter how many times I watch it. This is what I call an experience
If you liked it I highly recommend you Macabre (ruclips.net/video/EUHudq6hQHo/видео.html). It is a really long one so it takes a lot of energy to watch and follow along. But I think that it would be very interesting for you from a guitar player's point of view. It is very progressive and complicated but that's a whole journey that is 100% worth it
Or in case you don't feel like doing a reaction for a 16-minute song, Tousei will be a great choice (ruclips.net/video/Npjms1N3sik/видео.html). Unfortunately, there's no English subs but that's a great performance nevertheless. And again, I chose it mostly because of guitar parts
I really hope that that info was useful to you and apologize for such a long comment
Once again thank you for taking you time to create this video and I would love to see more reactions to them. Have a great day or night wherever you are! ♥️
Thank you for taking the time to write out such a long and thought out comment for the video, Kira! I appreciate the insight into the band and this song/video. It's interesting to know the song goes past even WWII and into what defines evil. Very weighty, yet fascinating subject matter. I definitely want to hear more from them, and a 16 minute prog epic is certainly my cup of tea, so I think it would be worth checking out! Thanks for your recommendations and have a great day/night as well! Hope to see you on my next Dir En Grey react. :)
@@MattFarkas That was a pleasure to me! Thank you for replying and I'm really happy to know that it was useful to you ☺️
Certainly will check out your other videos!
Thank you for this comment Kira, you just spoke on behalf of many Dir en grey fans ❤️
Chaymae Bel Thank you! I’m very glad to know that it was useful 😌
I concur.
When too many persons simply state “This song is about ww2 [Full Stop]”, I feel disappointment.
Tapping into my emotions whilst listening to this song - sans lyrics intentionally - I experienced an attempt at expelling the darkness inside an empathic person. Concisely, the band was conducting a sonic exorcism.
On whom? Themselves, the earth and the listeners.
I mention the earth because “Vinushka” is in the UROBOROS record - it references religions practiced upon the earth and related themes:
Tibetan Buddhism, Russian Shamanism & Orthodoxy, idolatry, Satanism, Communism, Spirituality, Judaism, Modernism, Capitalism, Nationalism, Japanism, conformity, agoraphobia, celibacy syndrome, Atheism, Narcissism, Anarchism, self-pity, Catholic sin of sloth, Materialism, Hinduism, Radicalism, identity crisis, ostracism, Christianity, Romanticism, living in the present moment, Animalism, Socialism, Militarism, Scientism, Globalization, Globalism, Humanitarianism, Humanism.
Nice reaction. I would recommend reacting to some live songs by them(soshaku or different sense are both amazing). Kyo(vocalist) writes all of their lyrics and they are often very poetic and symbolic. His vocal range is insane in both clean and harsh vocals. Another thing I love about them is the bass lines and how clearly you can hear the bass in (most of) their songs. If you are going to watch their live stuff pay attention to the drum kit. There is one strange thing about the drum kit that I have never seen before and I won't spoil it here.
I was blown away by Kyo's vocals. I forgot to mention it during my wrap at the end, but I was constantly surprised at what he was doing vocally. Very impressive range.
I'll be sure to watch the drums when I do a live concert react from them!
@@MattFarkas Glad you liked it. Dir en grey has been one of my favorite bands since I was 15 so I'm always happy to see new people discover them.
This song really demonstrates his range, ESPECIALLY his harsh vocals. He just goes from gutturals to whistle frys like it ain't no thing for him.
You should see the live version. It's insane what Kyo do on stage.
You have to listen to the actual live version of this
Macabre [live] by Dir en grey is one good to react, a small masterpiece of crying guitars and a bass solo, check it out
Thanks for the suggestion, Andrey!
You should really check out their live version of Different Sense (the one filmed at Osaka Jo Hall is really, really good).
One reason that Japanese lyrics become even more cryptic when translated is that Japanese is what is called a "pro-drop" language, meaning they drop pronouns like "he", "they", "you" etc., and often also drops entire subjects of sentences. On top of that, Japanese song lyrics often leave certain things to the listener by making the subject of certain sentences ambiguous, where one line may be interpreted several ways. All of this adds up to making Japanese songs challenging to translate into English well.
Great vid! And a perfect request to get someone new interested in Dir en Grey. I always recommend the live versions of damn near every song they have, simply because it always blows the studio versions out of the water. Hope to see you do more reactions to their stuff!
And just to let you know now, yeah, Dir en Grey are a very dark band. Haha.
React to the live version. Great reaction.
Oh boy thank you for reacting on this. Please watch the live version after this. You will be blown away. Instant fan material.
Excited to listen to more Dir En Grey!
Might have been good that you didn't see the uncensored version haha... Great reaction, hope to see more Dir in the future!
react to their live version with eng sub
U should try the live versiin with the subtitkes... Makes it easier to understand while Kyo (Singer) chances through all of his caracteres ... His lyrics are sing by versions of himself in my opinion. Só once he is so expressiva, I think he was made for act on the stage... U should really try 🖖👌👍
Btw, good reactioj, thanks, cheers
Check out Vinushka live with subtitles - ruclips.net/video/BVhAVHcu-r0/видео.html - Its probably the best performance of the song. It is a quality video recording. Edit: The vocals are a lot clearer, imo.
Nice, thank you mkvision! Excited to see some live footage of these guys.
@@MattFarkas I'd be cool to see your reaction to it even though you've already watched the music video. The visuals are intense.
Americans didn't really take this song seriously, but it's clear that this song is a reclaim for what they did a century ago, and Kyo is putting all his heart into interpreting his sorrow and anger.
One of the best progmetal bands ever!
This song is great but the live version is the upgraded version... It moves me to tears everytime. You can also see people crying in the audience. Powerful performance by the singer. Must watch :).
from a Japanese man
I’m glad that you think deeply about atomic bomb US dropped through this song. We can not change the history, but we can develop and help each other from now on.
I’m so sorry about my poor English.
Your English is fine. コメントありがとうございます。
One word: Watch the Live version and react. Oh that's 6 words, but hey, yuo get the message ;) Thanks for the initial reaction though!
The secret behind Kyo’s dynamic vocals is he actually eats babies
😂
🤣 you made me remember that they used to said Kyo liked to eat babies.
Black rain
React to Rinkaku or Tosei live, his vocals give me shivers, the guitar progressions chills, I can't.
Js you should *really* check out their 2011-2013 stuff.
In particular "Kiri to Mayu 2012" I promise it's fucking brutal 🖤
The live videos are much more impressive.
why don't you react to the uncensored version ? learn to face footage of the massacre commited by your people.
He didn't know this was the censored version. Don't assume it was intentional.
lel are u a child? who thinks this way
hmm... why would you react to the censored video ? Is facing footage of your bombings on hiroshima and nagasaki too hard to watch ?
It wasn't a conscious choice, this was the first video for the song that appears when searching on RUclips.
I just want to point out that I, nor anyone I know personally, approves of what the US chose to do during WWII in regards to dropping the atomic bombs. However, we weren't exactly alive to participate in the conversation when it was occurring in 1945. In fact, by now I'm sure the majority if not all the people who were involved in making that decision are now dead.
I'm not proud of my country for what we did, and I mourn those who died and suffered because of it. But I'm not responsible for what happened, nor is any living American. Please don't blame us for it. War is brutal, and I only hope that no one else in the future suffers what the people of Japan suffered.
Lastly, I want to say that I have seen footage before. It's nightmarish. Horrifying. Absolutely hellish.
Thanks.
Careful not to cut yourself with that edge, kid
lel what a dumb comment... its not his bombings. every country has committed atrocities even japan on countries like korea and china...also this is just a bands music video
