    Love your motivation. Like yourself a bit behind in the coat sewing projects. I live in Maryland in the USA and currently we have had our second snow storm! Love the instructions on the interfacing to make it look “professional” or not so much homemade. Keep them coming....

    I love the shape and lines of the Artemis Coat. I hopefully have enough of a black faux fur to make it up. Thank you for this pattern comparison video!

    Great picks, thank you so much. As a VERY slow sewer, I'm considering something easy for spring.

    Really, really great choices you have given. Totally agree about doing it right structure and outward appearance wise with interfacing and lining, unless you just want a cardigan type coat. Your "housecoat" is already warming my winter sewing list. Love it. And the Victory Trench is the epitome of style and uniqueness. Think I would play around with a lightweight lining (maybe just a short top only lining) for that because I like a finished interior look. Anyway, you nailed it with this video on coats for me. You do add so much to the sewing community with your videos. Thank you!!

    • @TheFoldLine
      @TheFoldLine  5 лет назад

      Thank you that is such a nice thing to say! I thought the whole interfacing thing was a bit of a myth until I made a coat without it and it stretched out of shape.. disaster!

    Lovely choices. I find that I am more drawn to the same type of pattern as you and like you I say I'm going to make that and sadly the season passes without the making. But this time will be better!! Maybe??

    Hi Kate, brilliant choices and I'm adoring the Ulysses trench coat 💝. I haven't made a coat yet so a bit nervous about going for that one but I'm so tempted to try for next spring. Loads of great patterns to choose from there though and thanks so much for the lowdown Kate 😁👌😘

    Nice pattern suggestions! After sewing a dress with lining, I love it so much, that I add sometimes linings to garments I make even when they don't have it in their patterns.

    May I add the Sew Over It Cocoon Coat? I am in the process of making it right now. I’ve pinned it together to try on and it is a lovely shape! The only difficult part I think will be the welt pockets which I am making multiple test runs of. I really agree about the interfacing. I COMPLETELY interfaced all the pieces. Closet Case has a good tutorial about that subject for her Clare Coat. I used medium weft interfacing from Emma One Sock, and attached to my Melton wool it creates a wonderful soft body! Thanks for the lovely pattern round up!

      Yes it's a great one - I didn't include as you now can't get hold of it as it was only available with the mag a few months ago!

    I love your reviews Kate, but the only link I followed ( the Berlin jacket ) didn't mention the make. I had to watch the Vlog again to find out who made the pattern.

    • @TheFoldLine
      @TheFoldLine  5 лет назад

      Hi Lorna, sorry about that, the database is still assigning patterns to designers since we launched the new website as it wasn't possible to do this before. I have manually updated this on the website and also added the designers above to make this easier to find the information quickly.

    Hi Kate
    Great choices. Just looking at GAIA coat named clothing - top chart says size to 16/18. Further down it mentions larger sizing? How can we be sure what sizes we are getting?

    • @TheFoldLine
      @TheFoldLine  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Jan, sorry for the confusion. I have updated the pattern entry for this, as it mentions at the top the pattern is available in UK sizes 4-18. We would definitely recommend checking the finished measurements for this pattern though as it's a loose fit with generous ease.

    • @janspenno2241
      @janspenno2241 5 лет назад

      The Fold Line thanks Kate. Pattern makers don’t always indicate that before purchasing but I will check. I made my daughter a top recently which was tie back, admittedly, but I made her the extra small by using the finished measurements! She was so pleased that I may have to make a sticker with the size on!

    Loved all the coats! I live in the U.S.; the stare of Indiana. My question: what good websites do you recommend (anywhere in the world) to purchase both felted wool fabric & high quality wool coating fabric. Here in the US, I havent found anything suitable. HELP ME Please!!!

      Hi Deborah I'm in Canada and had to search for boiled wool too. I bought some at fabricville.com and made the Brooklyn coat by Tessuti (which I love). They had a half price sale so their stock is low. I also just bought more boiled wool from Blackbird Fabrics. It's lighter than the other boiled wool I used on my Brooklyn coat. Probably because it's part rayon. The quality is lovely and has beautiful drape. They also have some other gorgeous coatings. Hope you find what you need!

    • @spatch1000
      @spatch1000 5 лет назад +2

      Mood fabrics (NYC) is an incredible resource for high end fabrics. They are on line and you can order samples. Sawyer Brook Fabrics (Massachusetts based, a small privately owned on-line and on-site store) are also a good go-to for good quality. I'm sure others can give you places to look at for wool and coatings. I also have another suggestion of Joel and Sons ( a sewers dream) which is a London, UK based incredible fabric store. Very, very high end but I have found remnant pieces that I had shipped to the U.S. at reasonable shipping cost.

    • @lornanash453
      @lornanash453 5 лет назад

      @@spatch1000 As you so rightly say, Joel and Son is a brilliant fabric store , but any shop that carries the Royal seal is bound to be expensive, they have some wonderful fabrics, but if you are spending that sort of money, try Liberty, they also sell amazing fabric and ship world wide.
