@MegaSpideyman I believe that’s when George created TV canon in preparation for The Clone Wars, basically when he was getting ready to kid-ify Star Wars in prep to sell it to Disney
Not only that but he seems to forget what was discussed 15 minutes ago. I’m sure he’s a nice guy and all but there is little energy coming from him running a podcast this way.
people say Ryan's a meanie and a grump but the patience he showed not laughing in Theory's face during the "Elon buys Disney" cringe makes him a kinder man than I
Poor Theory. I understand your complaint. It often felt like both put more effort into the conversations, especially around The Acolyte. I understand Theory's reluctance to continue talking about the show after talking about it so much on his channel, Open Bar and FNT, but they did agree to it.
@@MegaSpideyman Theory was pretty much a mute on FNT and Open Bar. If the topic wasn't Star Wars related, he doesn't say anything because he knows nothing outside of SW. Which is weird since he lives his life online. Ryan and Mauler had to explain to him that the GoT books aren't even finished yet. Also on Open Bar, Theory was a horrible guest. He is constantly yawning, looking at his phone, looking at something off screen and laughing, or not paying attention.
Kenobi damaged the franchise, but at least precocious little Leia didn't Force Choke Ben and join the Sith in the finale, because she's fighting patriarchy.
Glad to see this up now. Theory's so close to just giving up on Filoni. His reactions to The Acolyte were quite refreshing. I wish he wouldn't go for such compromise options as the SW multiverse, or a glimpse into a better world.
"Yo Theory, ... Do you have any plans for conventions?" Theory: Yeah, I'll be at Spacecon, end of October. Ryan, you going? Ryan: Uhmm, to where, San Antonio? Which convention is that? Theory: Uhh, Spacecon. Ryan: I have no idea, I've no idea... When is it? Theory: End of October.
Theory's still in denial about Filoni sucking harder than anyone left at Kennedyfilm... but it's a very unseaworthy kind of denial at this point. The cracks are finally showing in his mind.
Filoni honestly doesn't. Ahsoka was in fact garbage, the acolyte is worse and my guses he is the only reason there was a semblance of plot with that one. but then you have star wars rebels and, recently, star wars bad batch. the latter being VERY fucking good. Could either mean his primary skills are with anmiation and those kinda stories and he is extremely weak with live action. Or that the wokeies in the company don't care about the anmiation and he's actually free to make stories without their horseshittery. like night and day.
He adores some crappy cartoons I have never seen because I am not 8 years old, so he still thinks the Filoni under the control of George Lucas is the same Filoni under Kennedy control. He still has hope for the old Filoni, but the only reason Filoni was any good was because George was also in charge influencing everything Filoni ever did.
@@taddad2641 Filoni only wrote season 4 of Rebels by himself (the one with magic wolves and time travel) and didn't write the Bad Batch, was only an executive producer.

I will paste my comment from latest Little Platoon video. I hope you don't mind. My God. I wish so hard, that Lesley got interviewed by someone who isn't just a mindless drone. I don't need to see her get trampled in discussion, however satisfying that would be. I just want her to get a MINIMAL amount of pushback, to explain how exactly Smilo Ren has moral highground, or why she didn't even bother with the concept of time, making so that intergalactic travel is akin to stepping into the room nearby. I think that would have been so informative and enlightening and could have shed skme light on the general Hollywood fuckery. That, of course, will never happen, but a calm, collected and respectful interview by someone from, let's call it "opposite side" would do SO MUCH GOOD. Also I don't believe for a second she loves or even likes Star Wars. That whole show seemed like an extremely expensive vendetta against... I don't even know... Male population as a whole? Christianity and morality? Writing in general? George Lucas? Disney? Kennedy herself? Today I watched a video on Last Jedi by Nutsa and she made a very interesting point: the reason any coverage of Last Jedi is so emotional and aggressive (compared to many other bad movies) is that Rian Johnson couldn't have made so many bad choices if he didn't knew what decision were RIGHT, so it comes off as spiteful and the audience FEELS, that something is not right, that the whole think stinks of spite, disregard and even outright hatred to the viewers. I can't shake that feeling, when watching Acolyte covereges (mainly your own, but also some others, like EFAP crew). How the hell can NOTHING make sense? Not motivations of any character, world building, power levels, causality, even the concept of passage of time? Not to mention more ethereal concepts like ethics, morality and faith (we still have zero clue what the witches actually were). It all seems too wrong to not have been done on purpose. At some point you can't keep invoking incompetence if malice becomes so apparent. Of course that invites a more pressing question: How exactly was that allowed to happen? Lesley's answers in her interview show that she doesn't even know her own work. WHY was she allowed to sink 180 million dollars in what amounts to not an incompetently made, but ultimately passionate project by someone way over their head, but more akin to a spiteful manifesto against... Something. It's just too competent in its horribleness. I'm sorry, but I have one more thing to add to this wall of text. Who exactly does Lesley have by the balls to make this all happen? And if blackmail is afoot, then why not use it to make something you genuinely enjoy, a passion project, something you will pour your heart into and even if you don't succeed, it's visible, that you TRIED, that it meant something to you and ultimately is made with good intentions. Why waste a good blackmail to create something so oozing with hatred to source material and to whoever held up hope for this project? Acolyte hurt EVERYONE involved with it. From the showrunner and her wife, through writers, actors, music producers, effects people, and even the viewers (if you don't count salaries, of course). WHY waste resources on something so incomprehensively terrible?
Absolutely. I'd really enjoy a hard hitting interrogation, but I expect honest interviews, not puff pieces. I hate these interviews where they just laugh and nod and agree with everything "HAH - yeah, that is so true. You're really a brave pioneer." Even with as pandering as _every single interview_ is, she still says some wild and wildly dumb shit. I'd love it if some so-called journalists would lightly and respectfully push back on _anything._ I'd prefer an indictment, but I'd love an actual conversation that's not purely promotional. Instead, the entire system is built around "You're not allowed to fail, and if you fail you did everything right. It's the fault of those damn alt-right fans that seem to make up a pretty substantial portion of the potential viewership. Not a single criticism can be taken in good faith."
I really do enjoy this, the 3 of them basically representing the heart of start wars, the lore of star wars, and the passion of good storytelling are such an excellent combination to hold one another accountable and discuss the nonsense. I do wish Grift was weekly, but I also acknowledge it was perfect how it started weekly and is now basically in place for new releases specifically. A solid foundation was built, now we get it when we need it for our sanity.
Ryan really ripped into Theory in this one. Good job Ryan for calling him out. Also proves that Theory never listens. He is shocked by their answers to keep Star Wars locked up for like 10 years and come back with a new team of Ryan's dislike of even Filoni's Clone Wars. Like bro he told you that in like the second episode of Star Grift.
I mean, you can watch Theory live the Red Letter Media meme, unironically, in *real time.* "Don't you love that you lived long enough to see all your favorite series turn to shit?" "Yeah, it's the best. : )" Theory has spent the last decade and a half, longer even, living the brand because of his attachment to it and because he could monetize and network that. He could "live the dream", which is why homeboy was *ADAMANT* about the bright future of Star Wars even in the face of every catastrophe. *ALWAYS* call out theory for his bullshit takes on those critical of Star Wars, *always* call out Theory for his shilling for bad products and pushing his personal projects ahead of actually *talking* about how shit star wars has been of late, but! I don't think for *ONE* micro-second that Theory is a "fake fan" of Star Wars. I think Theory's love for Star Wars is personal and genuine outside of his ability to profit on it, and I think Ryan knows that too because Ryan's got the same kind of love for the property. Problem for Theory is he's confused love for the universe for loyalty to the brand, and he's concerned as much about his own future as he is about the brand's future, because the two are so interlinked. Ryan has been the *BEST* addition to Star Grift because Mauler can *NOT* be the same kinda fan these two are. Mauler isn't gonna sit through over 100hrs of a Star Wars "Kid's Cartoons" just so he can have more context for a cameo or a reference that Theory *INSISTS* was part of Dave Filoni's grand magnum opus for the second coming of Star Wars. There's a barrier there, because Mauler isn't gonna do that, and Theory isn't the kind of guy who's gonna be able to take Mauler's arguments to heart *without* that context. But Ryan *IS* that guy. He has *SEEN* all the dog shit tv series that are pratically required viewing for everything Dave Filoni's made in the live action world. He's read the books. He's played the games. He is Theory's equal (or even his senior) on the subject of Star Wars so when Theory says some shit like "Well Clone Wars was good" the conversation doesn't get to end with Mauler going "I havent seen all of it, but from what I have seen, I disagree. Can you elaborate on why it's good?" and having Theory go "oh well they do this thing, and that helps define anikan and ahosoka and stuff and its paid off later in rebels which then helps this thing in the Ahsoka show make more sense." Instead we get Ryan who goes "Nah dude, I've seen that shit. I can quote for you the episode practically line by line, I can tell you who the head caterer was in the credits. That moment you're talking about made REBELS worse, which makes MANDO worse, which makes AHSOKA even WORSE than all of that! It is a DOMINO effect of disaster and it ALL traces back to Dave Filoni -- NONE of the shit he made was EVER good, I've got receipts."
@@nananamamana3591 In some ways, this really is a good trio. Those ways are just quite unfortunate for SWT's image. And Ryan is hands down Theory's superior on the subject.
@@alexhayden219 I don't know if "superior" is the right word here. Is he more knowledgable? Yeah, maybe, I'm pretty sure Ryan's also older than theory, and has been in the fandom at large longer than theory. That's not to say Theory *ISNT* educated. I think, especially on the production level, Theory may have more information than Ryan because Theory has talked with production staff at Lucasfilm both under the management of Lucas and under the management of Disney -- that knowledge of the practical logistics of the brand is as much a part of star wars as the films are. It would be like saying BreadCircus is Mauler's "superior" on the subject of Star Wars because they use published materials and directly cited sources from Star Wars' own history of media both inside and outside of the films to qualify their assessments of the Star Wars films. Just because a person is more informed doesnt make them an inherent "superior". It's why I said Ryan is Theory's senior. He KNOWS a lot more of Star Wars media than Theory does, that's evident. I would say Ryan is Theory's superior in his argumentative capabilities, Ryan has a *pretty* good memory for these things, just like Theory does, but while Theory could probably tell you about what some guy he interviewed at length back in 2021 had to say, Ryan is the kind of guy who looks at that and says "Ok. So what? Here's the actual content. They can say whatever they want in pre or post release public relations material, it doesnt change what they GAVE us and what they KEEP giving us." Dont get me wrong, I'd agree on the subjective level, I like Ryan a lot more than I like Theory, I'd say Ryan is his superior if you were to ask me my OPINION? But I don't think it's fair to just like, put that idea out there in the objective sense, like I said, I think Theory has some really good insights on the production level in large part due to all the interviews and all the networking he's been able to do within Lucasfilm that DOES bring some value to the conversation because it provides insights to the personalities and intentions of the creators. Of course, it's valuable, because then Ryan just has MORE ammo to go "Oh so then theyre really fucking bad at their jobs, because THIS is what we ACTUALLY got" and that'll never NOT be funny.
@@nananamamana3591 I'd say Ryan is superior in Star Wars knowledge, history, lore, and trivia compared to Theory. Superior is definitely the right word. Also Ryan isn't afraid of being cancelled like Theory is and Ryan will gladly speak his mind. And Ryan has superior knowledge to what's going on outside of Star Wars. Theory lives his life online and didn't even know that Game of Thrones were based off a book and those books aren't finished yet. My aunt who doesn't watch Game of Thrones knows that the books aren't finished yet and season 8 was a horrible ending.

Ryan the lore keeper, Theory the dreamer and Mauler the scrupulous. Even the dead air in this is more entertaining than most of Disney Star Wars at this point. Needed a little more planning but feels fitting when talking about The Acolyte.
My interpretation of dp telling happy his team died was that they did, they died. He brought them back but dp knows that they died. He didn’t restart x-force because when he lead them on their mission they all got killed. Saving them or not doesn’t change that he knows his leadership got them all killed. Would have been fixed if he flippantly added “I mean, I went back in time and saved them all, but yea. Didn’t work out great. But now we do game nights!” Or something stupid like that. Eta: now as to why he approaches alternate universe avengers I have no idea how or why he managed that at all.
Agreed. The movie is extremely flawed, but there were several points in EFAP's coverage where I felt the thing they were complaining about was pretty clearly not what they interpreted it to be.
@@reginlief1because theory is pulling a “pot meet kettle”. He was this person for many of Star Wars’ previous projects. The acolyte isn’t unique in its degree of shit (the other shows have done the same), it’s unique in that it managed to set the “shit bar” lower than the previous shows.
I just don't get what Mauler sees in Theory. I'm sure he's a really good guy. In fact it seems there's a lot of evidence to that idea. But he so underqualified to be talking about shit in depth. I just love how there's constant excuses for everything in Star Wars. Going into this show, people were saying "It's okay, they won't be Sith, they'll be some other thing like renegade Jedi or some other faction that is just skilled in weapons. Look, the bad guy uses knives!" or alternately "It's okay. If they are Sith, everyone in the show will die. All of them. And they won't be able to communicate with the rest of the Jedi for some reason." And then when the show began, it became "It's okay, they won't be Sith. Sure, that guy has a red lightsaber. Maybe he's, like, a Knight of Ren or something. He probably won't interact with the Jedi, anyway. He'll stay in the shadows. If he does interact, he'll kill everyone." Then as the show continued, it became "It's okay, they won't be Sith. Even if they basically are, they won't actually call them Sith. And the Jedi won't be able to call home." Then they called themselves Sith and the Jedi called home. And Ki Adi Mundi got involved. And the excuse became "It's okay, they... uh... they'll all die? And Ki doesn't really know specifically what's going on, I think." And then the show ended and it became "It's, uh... it's... it's okay, though, because... umm... because it's... uh... it's Star Wars. And they covered it up because... uh... that's... what... Jedi... do? Yeah. that's what Jedi do." Sure... that's one hell of a goalpost move. And then Headland confirmed in interviews that Yoda is in on the coverup. "It's okaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy.........." Oh, btw, that coverup made things _way worse_ for the Jedi than if they had told the truth. It very predictably made them get dragged and receive more government oversight, which is specifically what they didn't want. If they told the truth, it would've completely validated their purpose as an institution. So... good job on that one. ffs
I've said it for a long time now - yes, Lucas had inspirations and paid homages to things. He also made sure to make it his own thing and fit what inspired him into the story naturally and made it 70% his own. Dave Filoni is vastly less intelligent with incorporating these things. He basically just directly photocopies the things, doesn't bother fitting them in, just slaps a lightsaber in the scene, and proclaims himself amazing for just shittily ripping off something else. And fans like SWT clap. "It's just like what George did!" No. It is definitively not.
basically true. I'm sure there's other instances but the one that comes to my mind is Wolverine #44 2003 where he kinda gets incinerated and it's just his adamantium skeleton laying there, then a moment later he's up and killing again, his body having grown around the adamantium skeleton from whatever few cells remained.
@@alexhayden219 Random question, but did you ever see an alternate origin comic for Wolverine? It had his skeleton as a separate entity, much like a spikey T-800, and they were hunting each other in a jungle, and during the fight, Logan jumped on its back and they sort of merged. It ended with him sitting in Buddha pose saying how it was a constant fight with the beast inside. I had the comic as a kid, but lost it over the years. Was a strange story, but not been able to find it since.
Ryan and Mauler even after making multiple videos analyzing this show already, they still give their all on this stream. Thats true commitment and passion right there! "It feels like the bullies that bullied us for liking Star Wars are now the ones making Star Wars." I'll agree to that. In many ways, that is what it is. It's that way in the fandom, too. It's that way for all the nerd things that I liked and got mocked for growing up that I wished would be more accepted. Now, they're all mainstream and have all gotten worse and the bullies that were previously against liking it are now bullies if you don't like it. It fucking sucks, man.
The main reason why Mando season 1 was any good was because it was entirely vague and relied on preconceptions and aesthetic. It was always bad storytelling, vacuous characters, and stupid plot. But it was vague enough to ignore. Season got more specific and showed that they really didn't have much of anything to offer.
1:11:45 No, Logan was aging and dying in Logan because the same genetically altered virus that had caused mutant infertility and caused the devastation of the world's general mutant population had somehow also infected him and caused his healing mutation to deteriorate. It wasn't because his adamantium was killing him. BTW, I love Logan, as a film with great characters, a wonderful journey, and a generally good plot. It's brought down a few pegs by any connections it mentions to any of the other X-movies and also by a lot of the smaller world building details that many people miss or forget because they're briefly mentioned but not that important to the plot... though pretty dumb/bad/illogical when you notice and think about them.
BWA-HAHAHAHAHA, I'm here for it everytime SWT's faith in Filoni is shaken. Ryan is absolutely correct on the roles each of these people play in making things and I can't understand why more people don't understand this. KK is barely creatively involved. She hires and has the initial conversation, then let's them do their thing until she sees something that convinces her that they need fired and someone else needs to fix it. SW is a mess for this but, honestly, it doesn't happen enough based on what we get. She's an incompetent producer but she's not evil or actively trying to ruin Star Wars. She is culpable for that in the people she hires and lets loose. Dave has more power now but he's been involved in everything they've made. It doesn't matter that his name isn't in the credits on some things. He and the other creators talk about his involvement. It's all-encompassing. Now, it's just even more so. He's always been a hack but he was tolerable when he was just the producer or supervising animation director. Under George, he had checks and blockers. Since George left, Dave has gotten steadily increasing power and what he's made has gotten steadily worse. People call it the Filoniverse because he's directly involved in making Mando and Ahsoka but it really is the Filoniverse and not Star Wars because he now has full uninhibited control and wants his characters and ideas to be the main focus of what Star Wars is and they're largely terrible. Sure, he's a fan and a happy guy and likes things from the EU. He's also a terrible writer and creator, in general, and does 90% rely on pandering and directly lifting other things, but in a surface level rendering that just sucks. Dave Filoni _IS_ modern Star Wars and it's just ass.

Thanks Leslie!

But that’s just my Star Wars Theory theory.

This why Ryan and Mauler didn't do this weekly, Theory gives such little conversation, and always goes to Super Chats.
He would argue against it and honestly believe that the name is ironic, but Grift was a completely accurate name for the show, in reference to him.
Not only that but he seems to forget what was discussed 15 minutes ago. I’m sure he’s a nice guy and all but there is little energy coming from him running a podcast this way.
people say Ryan's a meanie and a grump but the patience he showed not laughing in Theory's face during the "Elon buys Disney" cringe makes him a kinder man than I
Can’t wait to hear Mauler and Ryan discuss while the intern reads supers!

Theory's still in denial about Filoni sucking harder than anyone left at Kennedyfilm... but it's a very unseaworthy kind of denial at this point. The cracks are finally showing in his mind.
It certainly seems that way.
MauLer might just win that lightsaber after all.
@@taddad2641Bad batch and rebels suck horribly what are you on. Everything he worked on was dogshit

The real grift was the stars we met along the way.
Of course that invites a more pressing question:
How exactly was that allowed to happen?
I mean, you can watch Theory live the Red Letter Media meme, unironically, in *real time.*
"Don't you love that you lived long enough to see all your favorite series turn to shit?"
"Yeah, it's the best. : )"
Theory has spent the last decade and a half, longer even, living the brand because of his attachment to it and because he could monetize and network that.
Can you elaborate on why it's good?" and having Theory go "oh well they do this thing, and that helps define anikan and ahosoka and stuff and its paid off later in rebels which then helps this thing in the Ahsoka show make more sense."
Instead we get Ryan who goes "Nah dude, I've seen that shit.
@@nananamamana3591 Well said
@@nananamamana3591 In some ways, this really is a good trio. Those ways are just quite unfortunate for SWT's image.
And Ryan is hands down Theory's superior on the subject.
@@alexhayden219
I don't know if "superior" is the right word here.
They can say whatever they want in pre or post release public relations material, it doesnt change what they GAVE us and what they KEEP giving us."
Dont get me wrong, I'd agree on the subjective level, I like Ryan a lot more than I like Theory, I'd say Ryan is his superior if you were to ask me my OPINION?

My interpretation of dp telling happy his team died was that they did, they died. He brought them back but dp knows that they died. He didn’t restart x-force because when he lead them on their mission they all got killed. Saving them or not doesn’t change that he knows his leadership got them all killed. It hasn't been long enough for me to miss Theory.
And they won't be able to communicate with the rest of the Jedi for some reason."
And then when the show began, it became "It's okay, they won't be Sith. Sure, that guy has a red lightsaber. Maybe he's, like, a Knight of Ren or something. He probably won't interact with the Jedi, anyway. He'll stay in the shadows. If he does interact, he'll kill everyone."
Then as the show continued, it became "It's okay, they won't be Sith. Even if they basically are, they won't actually call them Sith. And the Jedi won't be able to call home."
Then they called themselves Sith and the Jedi called home. And Ki Adi Mundi got involved. And the excuse became "It's okay, they... uh... they'll all die? And Ki doesn't really know specifically what's going on, I think."
And then the show ended and it became "It's, uh... it's... it's okay, though, because... umm... because it's... uh... it's Star Wars. And they covered it up because... uh... that's... what... Jedi... do? Yeah. that's what Jedi do." Sure... that's one hell of a goalpost move.
And then Headland confirmed in interviews that Yoda is in on the coverup. "It's okaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy.........."
Oh, btw, that coverup made things _way worse_ for the Jedi than if they had told the truth. It very predictably made them get dragged and receive more government oversight, which is specifically what they didn't want. If they told the truth, it would've completely validated their purpose as an institution. So... good job on that one.
ffs
This all reminds me of The Story of Darth Filoni, the Excused.
Did you notice how the situation keeps getting cut off?
Situation?
What's the situation?
Somehow, the longman returned
The Vermithor v Palps discussion was the best Grift bit so far 😂
I've said it for a long time now - yes, Lucas had inspirations and paid homages to things. He also made sure to make it his own thing and fit what inspired him into the story naturally and made it 70% his own. Dave Filoni is vastly less intelligent with incorporating these things. He basically just directly photocopies the things, doesn't bother fitting them in, just slaps a lightsaber in the scene, and proclaims himself amazing for just shittily ripping off something else. And fans like SWT clap. "It's just like what George did!" No. It is definitively not.
In the comics, if I remember Gary correctly, Wolverine was basically unkillable. One time he regenerated from ONE BLOOD CELL.
basically true.
Meanwhile Theory is tired of talking about this show. He exhausted from talking about it on with Drinker and Gary (his words). Whats the point of this then? Now he wants to be on EFAP 🤔 I don’t think he survives one of those streams 😂
Felt the need to repost given the video :D
Sol translates to "sun"
Hope is like the sun
Rebellions are built on hope
This show killed hope
This show is an abomination...Horse-Shoe Theory had a thalidomide twisted mutant with Dunning-Kruger.
That all the attempts at "Men Bad-Women Good" boomeranged hard....
Star wars theory should change his name to star wars THERAPY 😂
D'aaaaw it's honestly making me tear up how defeated Theory sounds at times
When Star Wars was once again defiled, when the Internet needed them... They returned.
Mauler doesn’t seem to realize you can turn superchats off during a livestream
You mean Theory? MauLer knows how to keep the balance
Star Grift is the only thing that brings me joy in life
"It feels like the bullies that bullied us for liking Star Wars are now the ones making Star Wars."
I'll agree to that.
Season got more specific and showed that they really didn't have much of anything to offer.
the power of ma'am
