A freight train carrying what we (during our stay in Chile) named the so-called "flask" cars heading for loading at the San Cristobal mine in Potosi, Bolivia from the Chilean port of Mejillones on the west coast. This train must cross from the very west of Chile to the east. Over 15,000 feet on meter gauge. Barely enough oxygen to breath without hypoxia, let alone run engines efficiently. Strange fills without drainage culverts - because of sparse water. Built in 1870's with animal power. Impressive.

These are boiler cars (tanks - cylindrical tanks) for transporting sulfuric acid, which is used in mines for the chemical extraction of copper.
