I hitchhiked from Middlesbrough to Nottingham to watch them and I had 50p in my pocket..they fed me and sorted me a band t shirt out..then end of the night I had beers with them in there tour mini bus as they headed back to Liverpool they didn’t want me hitchhiking home early hrs so they took me back to Liverpool showed me where some Beatles once lived, gave me a show around there studio then Chris gave me his bed in his flat and went to his mams house round the corner …he forgot he put me up for the night..he rang his house fone at 2pm…telling me to pick the fone up on the answer machine…then he dropped me off at train station and payed my fare back to Middlesbrough…true story mate..I’ve seen em since all over the country for years..they’ve always been open arms..top top lads…I now play drums to a good standard …i write choons play guitar..harmonica..they’re 1 of me many influences..they got me into wanting to play and write music from the start

What a lovely modest bloke. Me n my brother - same age gap - started our band Big White Stairs end of 80s early 90s and finished in 97 after many managers, self releases, everyone telling us we were the next big thing. When it combusted it left some permanent scars for a few members. Today I play in 2 bands, teach and play more than I ever did when it was all about impressing a n r guys or trying to 2nd guess the next 'thing'. The music is always there even when the success isnt. Got to say that real people tunes just have special something.

Great interview! You asked some really good questions! Love hearing Chris talk, seems like a genuine guy, can't wait to see the Realies later in the year. When he's talking about Noel, you can see he's trying hard not to come across as bitter or angry. He wants to be reasonable about it. But fact is, he is absolutely within his rights to be bitter and angry. I didn't know Noel's solicitor was sending them multiple letters denying the plagiarism. I really feel for them. Noel treated them terribly for no good reason. No one would have judged Noel if he'd credited people - including his own brother. The fact that Noel promised to give credit for Columbia makes me wonder if someone was advising him against crediting?

Great interview mate. Massive respect to the Reelies, they were there at the beginning and definitely deserve more credit with Oasis. Re Noel - his plagiarism is well documented over the years but if it was that easy as just copying other people everyone would be doing it. Noel is a genius songwriter no doubt about that. When it comes to business though, Noel is absolutely cut throat & always has been, so it doesn’t surprise his ongoing attitude with the Reelies

The Griffiths and their melodies are just pure magic. What gems they have churned out over the years.
As big as Oasis was worldwide, I'll tell you why Oasis never made it in America. Because Americans want to see some level of higher instrumental mastery. Songs alone just don't cut it here. And this is coming from someone who loves Noel's songwriting. Window Pane and that one solo mop the floor with every single Oasis solo.
Everyone rips off the Griffiths. Listen to Hold On then listen to Skyfall. Ripping off is a form of flattery I suppose.

Great interview. Chris is modest. If you want to hear how he felt about Oasis ripping them off, listen to "What's on the Outside", which is a briliiant album. The Real People should have been as big as Oasis. At the end of the day, the Real People are better people and better musicians. Doesn't make sense.

Great interview mate with a talented and proper down to earth guy. I still love the debut self titled album by The Real People. Full of class songs from start to finish. No wonder he's pissed of with the credit issue with Columbia, Rockin' Chair and espescially 'Don't Go Away'. These are 3 of my favorite Oasis performances, especially Rockin' Chair and Don't Go Away. I never knew about the 'Don't Go Away' song credit issue before watching this. How f**king unfair is that?? Total joke. It shines a whole new light on Noel Gallagher for me. Noel has always come across as a sarcastic and 'take with a pinch of salt' kind of guy since he entered the music world to the masses with Oasis. But i always thought his arrogance in music was justified after writing so many great songs himself. Then i hear this interview with and it really pissed me off to hear how Chris got f**cked over. ......tbh, I've never been impressed by Noel's High Flying Birds since Oasis split up anyway and we all know how Liam's voice is nothing like it was. So I'm more than happy to be going to see The Real People in Birmingham in October. Life can be a bitch for sure and as an Oasis and Real People fan myself, its such a shame that things ended up like this.

so why didnt they write an album as good as def maybe then? where was they went noel wrote live forever , a song they recorded months after noel wrote it ? where were they when he wrote talk tonight, sad song , listen up, its good to be free champagne supernova , cast no shadow, hey now, gas panic , roll it over , shock of the lighting, i agree def maybe and those early besides was noels best era but thats common with most bands and tony played a big part in that sound ..the real people recorded some tunes with them and helped them out in ways but if you think they "had a big hand in def maybe" you're deluded , i love tonys drumming but his book is full of waffle and hes clearly bitter (and understandably so) towards noel so hes exaggerating their input ... the real people were a bog standard indie by numbers band , hence why they never got big or played knebworth so 30 years later they are trying to take credit for things they never done .. sad really

If Noel is so good after Definitely Maybe then why didn’t he credit Chris and The Real People to begin with? Then we wouldn’t be having this chat. I love Noel as much as the next person, however - Noel is an egomaniac. And selling millions of records means nothing - Black Lice sold millions of copies of “Agadoo”! And Noel only rates the first album - he’s said that many times, google that. And not everybody’s first album is their best - are you tripping?
And trust me on this one - Noel’s Knighthood is coming, and he wants it as well.
