    Thanks for this video. I've been interested in the Art Graf product, but talked myself out of buying it because I have a tube of DS graphite. I took a small mint tin and filled it with the DS, and basically made my own easily portable graphite paint puck. I may have to pick up a bottle of the Liquid Pencil, tho. Love that sepia color!

    This is such a helpful demonstration. I am terrible with watercolors, but love using graphite and sepia-tone "inks".

    Very useful video Parka ! I love your second sketch (in the street). To sketch in grey, I use sometimes the 4 Graphitone you’ve presented in another video and I like it. We can rub wet brush on the pencil mine, very convenient when drawing outside.

    There are various painting tools, and it doesn't matter whether it is good or bad. As long as it suits your own habits, it comes from the perspective of Australian travel painters.

    This is a fantastic comparison video. Thanks for doing it. Since DS is watercolor, I'm assuming it is liftable/workable like other watercolors. Would love to see how DS combines with other colors.

    I have only used watersoluble graphite in the form of a pencil that I got in a set of pencils from Daler-Rowney. I drew some lines on watercolor paper then took a wet brush to the lines. The lines didn't dissolve completely; and, the grey color that was produced was kind of flat. Maybe, you might call it matte. I did not like the results enough to add the watersoluble graphite to my stash of watercolor paints.
    This was a good demo. I did not realize that Daniel Smith had a watercolor graphite paint product.

    Great demo- thank you. I sometimes use “Nobel Dry Ink” They are round dried discs of sumi ink, similar to the Artgraph graphite, that dissolve with water. They are made in China. The ink dissolves easily and comes in a plastic case, so easy to use outside. Have you ever tried these? You can get a nice range of tone from deep darks to very light grey, like other sumi ink.

    I've liked even just using non water-soluable powdered graphite in washes. I have to make sure the pieces get fixed so it doesn't all go away, but the sheen and granulation is really beautiful!

    Thank you for the wonderful video! I have the Art Graf. I like it, but found difficult to control the
    concentration of graphite to apply. I really interested to try Sumi ink! I already sketch with a fountain Lamy pen with Lamy inks and waterbrush. But it wouldn't granulate like Sumi ink. Thank you for review!

    What about graphite shine in this 3 samples? How intense and glossy it is? Anyway thanks, and someday try to review a sticks of "sausage" or "russian sausage" (this is a crayons for trituration and dissolving in water for creating a watercolor-like liquid, similar to chinese touche, but also avaliable for applying dry like pastels and later complete erasing with regular eraser) (it was increfible popular back in RI and USSR in academic drawing studies, but nowdays almost no one use it(((

      @snoozleblob 5 лет назад +1

      @@alistewart3451 So yes it is the fully dried pan of DS graphite easy to dissolve? (Sometimes watercolour tube paints made of more unusual pigments can have difficulty dissolving easily for easy usage, which is why I'm curious here.)

    • @alistewart3451
      @alistewart3451 5 лет назад +3

      @@snoozleblob Yes, I find it very easy to re-wet/dissolve. The water does not get absorbed into the paint, the way it does with the Art Graf product, but it does re-wet super easy. I know what you mean about some Earth pigments drying into impenetrable little bricks, but this is not one of them.

    Was the sumi ink in traditional form or like a large kuretake pan? I have a Kremer pan of graphite and love iit, but maybe the Graf tin is better value and more usable for larger work? Very useful review. Thanks.

      Sumi ink can come in bottles or as ink sticks that you have to grind yourself. Bottle ink is more convenient of course.

    So when using graphite one will need a black of some sort if they want that in their art. That's fair. One has to have white gouache or gel pen for white highlights if they're not exploiting the white of the paper.
